Need Help On Setting Up This Site

Hey guys,

Sorry if this is in the wrong section - it seemed the most relevant.

Anyways, I'm working on a clients site and need a little help with something.

Basically, the entire site runs on Wordpress right now. So if you visit, thedomain.com you arrive at the page which is an online career coaching resource.

What I'd like to do, is move the entire wordpress site currently on thedomain.com to thedomain.com/getaccess - now I know this will move the page to that domain and appear there, however will all images now be broken?

Another more important question is.. I would like to lock the entire wordpress site and have a landing page on thedomain.com so that people can buy and be given a login and password to unlock access to the content.

Does anyone have any recommendations firstly for a product that will create a login and username for the client but will also lock access unless they've bought the resource.

I know my question is all over the place, hopefully it makes sense.

Thanks in advance!

Not sure about the login and username question you proposed but to answer your question about the images, it should be fine.

Copy the <html> view of your page content on domain.com to getaccess. You'll see that the <img src tags all point to absolute paths of the file name.

    Thanks for the reply @DiggitySEO

I imagine I'll use FunnelKit to set up the sales page; unless anyone has any better suggestions?

why don't you simply turn your site into a membership site using a plugin like wishlist member? no need to move the site at all .. you simply lock content to only be available to paid members. You decide which content can be seen by non paying visitors .ie your landing page and go from there.
It seems to me you are over complicating things!
    Just a thought

I was thinking the same thing, just turn it into a membership site. S2member is another great membership plug in.

Also, you can set what ever page you want to show as your main page, or the page people hit when they visit your main address. You could create a squeeze page in wordpress and set that as the page that shows up first.

Yes, this will break the current images. The images that the urls reference will no longer be at that location stated in the url! Here's a reference from the Wordpress Codex that should help. Moving WordPress « WordPress Codex

There may be some plugins that can make life easier when moving to a different folder. This one works when switching to a different domain - WordPress › Velvet Blues Update URLs « WordPress Plugins I'm not sure how it copes when moving to a folder. You'd need to research a bit before using.

PS. As Graham and Ron have mentioned, a membership site plugin or theme is probably the best solution for your other question.

I've definitely thought about the membership plugin option. My thoughts were just that I'd have to move the current site to another directory for the home page to be visible. So how exactly does it work? Will the landing page appear on the home domain and then once content is unlocked show the purchased content? My question is, won't I have to add it to another directory anyway? eg domain.com/unlock

Why would you spend all that time moving files around, when you can create a static homepage and achieve the same results without the fuss?

This can be done with a variety of membership plugins. Each has it's own ups and downs, the biggest down usually being the learning curve.

Okay, wishlist plugin looks to be the way to go about things.

Any other recommendations of membership options that people prefer?

And just quickly.. will this enable me to create a home page and not have to move the site? IE clients arrive at domain.com and see the landing page, once they buy they login and see what currently shows on domain.com?

As I said, S2member is another option and one I prefer slightly more over Wishlist. I currently use both.

I also mentioned, you can set the front page to what ever you want. That is built into wordpress, nothing to do with a membership plugin. Dashboard -> Settings -> Reading. And I am sure the theme your looking at has different templates, like a sales page, ect. Create the page in wordpress, set it as the front page. Easy peasy.

Some theme's also come with page builders, so you can build each page how you want. Very flexible that way.

Course with most membership plugin's you can set it, as where to send the members after they sign up, login, ect.

As far as a salespage, honestly it shouldn't really have any options but to sign up for a membership. Or you could have everything there, and lock just the actually content.

I make a page for a given content addition, explains what it is, what it covers, like sales copy, then lock the actual content. With most membership plugin's you can lock what ever part of the page or post you want. Tease them with copy, then it say's, it's for members only, click here to join. Of course not the only way, but one I like that works well. Plus you have content for the search engines as well, when you lock everything you don't. Well, just my thoughts

Sorry guys, I need to clarify since I don't think I'm making that much sense.

Basically, I love this theme from themeforest - WP101 WordPress Tutorial Videos - The fastest way to learn WordPress!
And want to use something like that either in wordpress form or HTML but still show what currently shows up at 'mydomain.com' when the user unlocks content.

I want to have a sales page, I want it to have forum, contact, members section all across the top. When they purchase they should go to the current site exactly as it appears now. So how can I possibly do this whilst keeping what the current site looks like on 'mydomain.com'. Won't I have to move the site to another address in order to have the home page show as the landing page?

Your images won't get affected due to the changes. You just need to transfer using the html code.

Absolutely not. Here's a youtube video I found explaining how to set a static homepage, and how to remove the extra home link that is automatically created by Wordpress.
