PHP or HTML affiliate websites?

I purchase pre-made affiliate websites, and tweek them a bit. You can view the html websites on your desktop in IE or Firefox if you double click on the index file in the website files.

Is there a way to view the php files on the desktop like the html files? It is a real pain to have to upload the php files to the server just to see what they look like.

Thanks to all in advance. I appreciate all the combined wisdom in all the posts.

You can always install XAMPP (from apache friends - very easy apache, mysql, php and perl installation without hassles) on your own PC - it will make it a "local server" running Apache, PHP, MySQL. You can start/stop it as needed.
When it is installed and you save your .php files/sites in the proper folders - then you will be able to see the php files, e.g. localhost/mysites/thenewsite/index.php

You can try any of the "standalone web server" packs that allow you to run a local version on your desktop

Check out Server2Go - Self configurable WAMPP Stack for an example

To be honest, even though I did install WAMP server on my computer to execute PHP files, I just think uploading them is much easier, and simpler for me. I use WS_FTP as my FTP client and it never slowed me down.

Maybe it's just about getting used to it, so my case may be different, but I have seen other programmers use Wamp Servers or XAMPP like The Pension Guy suggested.

I have tried XAMPP and Server2Go. They're good but when they go awry, you better be someone who is savvy about these apps. With MoWeS Portable however, I have never encountered the problems that turned me off XAMPP and Server2Go. Just my 2-cents.

    Here's a great tip:
Get TWO different independent onlined PCs.
One is your development/twicthing platform, the other is your "ok, what have I done?" platform - have this pointed to the URL you are working on.

Each time you make a change to the HTML/PHP/ASP/CSS, whatever, file.....
upload and then hit refresh on your "ok, now what have I done?" browser and see the results.

It works very well. You could also hook up two displays to your PC, with one showing the URL you are working on, and refreshing the views on that page, but I find the 1st setup to be the most efficient for me.....
