Do most web hosting companies offer 1-click installation software these days? (Softaculous, Fantastico, etc). If not, which web hosting companies are still lagging behind in this area?

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

Yes all the true hosting companies offer this as standard however there are a growing number of hosting services that are in reality just white label reseller accounts masquerading as true hosting companies.

These latter ones maybe the type you are referring to when talking about lagging behind.

Someone just told me that WordPress is less secure when 1-click installation software was used. Is this true?

A lot of times this is bogus advice. People "claim" just because it uses things like "admin", default table prefix etc, it's less secure and is the root of the problems when in reality, it's not.

the majority of the problems stem from themes & plugins.

I think most Hosts offer one-click installs through such features as Fantastico and Softaculous.

Most have one click installs, but most of what it installs is older outdated versions of the software. That's where the security holes come in.

I have my own servers and do hosting for a few people, but I choose not to use Fantastico because if you ask me, it's ancient technology.

If you're going to learn to run a website of any kind, installing software is the easy part. Just make sure you get cpanel hosting. Setting up a MySQL database only requires a few point and clicks. Then installing the software only requires FTPing it to your server (1 point and click) then a couple more point and clicks and you're done.

If you want me to host your site I'll do it for $10 a month and give you unlimited everything, and install anything you want installed for free.

Your best bet to find the hosting company that does not offer one click installation is to find a company that does not have Cpanel as their hosting control panel.
