Best way to get traffic to your web site

Hi, I am newbie here but been working as an online marketing specialists for years. I can't understand why there is nothing much on here about Google Adwords. Is there a rule about talking about this that I don't know of?
If not, are people using it and what results are you getting with it?
I use if for a lot of my clients with some great results. If you use conversion tracking with it, you can see exactly what your ROI is and you can set your budget accordingly. I would be interested to see how other people are going with it.

    Google adwords can indeed be a great tool for driving traffic to your website. But without knowing what you are doing, you can lose alot of money very quickly with Adwords.

    You have to have a good size budget to even create a profitable campaign. Now don't get me wrong, once you have found keywords that convert you can scale. But for most people starting out, it simply doesn't make sense to dive right into adwords without having a good grasp on sound marketing concepts and proper sales funnels to ensure a positive ROI.

    As far as free methods there are a TON of things you can do.

    Press Releases are a great tool for delivering an INSTANT traffic boost to your site. Plus they have the added benefit of a long term SEO boost from all the newly acquired backlinks.

    Another great way to get free traffic to your website is by using guest posts. If you can find some authority websites in your niche, try to email them and see if they allow guest posts. This is a great way to leverage their already established credibility to build traffic to your own site.

    Social Bookmarking to the top sites is also a great way to get traffic rolling into your sites. There are great services to automate this such as onlywire, and the better your content is the more people will naturally share it.

    I utilize all of the above free methods for all of my sites to get the traffic rolling in.

      I'd say it also depends on the website to which you are trying to drive traffic and for what purpose. You're likely not going to mess with SEO if you're just trying to drive traffic to a squeeze page.

      It also depends on what kind of budget you are working with. There are plenty of free methods (article marketing, forum marketing, etc.), but you can obviously accelerate your results if you've got some kind of budget to use for paid traffic (ppc, solo ads, etc.). Again, the best methods can depend on where you want to drive traffic. Solo ads, for example, can be great for sending traffic to a squeeze page to build your list, especially if you have a well-crafted, highly monetized funnel. On the other hand, they likely wouldn't be the most cost-effective means for driving traffic to the website of a local business, service provider, etc.

    AdWords is great if you have a nice budget to do some experimenting with, or hire a professional. There are a lot of great free ways to get traffic too however. I always concentrate on building quality links on quality websites and working on natural SEO rankings. This is how I have achieved the most success.

    I also recommend creating your own blog on your website. Building a blog and updating it regularly is great for SEO. You will also find that you start ranking for more organic keywords as you add more content.

      If you're going for a long term strategy or building an authority site I would definitely go with organic. write articles, submit to blogs, guest post all over the place, social media.

    Solo ads are a perfect way to build your list....

    Many people in our industry today say that if they had to do it over again they would beuild their list FIRST and then create websites and blogs...

    Money is still in the list...
