Question about Multi-level marketing

Hey guys. Recently, one of my friend offered me to join to MLM company in which he's recruited. This company sells FM products: perfumes, cosmetics, body care products, household products and coffee. And gives 30-40% commissions.

I didn't have a chance to talk with recruiters yet (will do it next week), but they are in this business for +10 years, they take you by the hand etc.. My newbie friend made $120 in two weeks with offline marketing by the way.

I am thinking to join this company mainly because of the practice but I am very unsure because I don't really feel passion for these products and because I need to recruit the people (up to 5) (company are coaching them). I am planning to create an e-shop (like a niche site with articles and reviews) based on keyword search, make a shop-threads in some forums and see how it goes.

1. What can I expect with this tactic? What should I do for best results?
2. What's main MLN action plan to take?
3. Should I sell all products together or choose one type of product (e.g. coffee)?
4. Is it really vital to recruit people in MLM?
5. What should I ask the company?

You have to be very careful when getting into MLM/Networking companies. These take allot more work than making money online, If i were you, i would look at my options. However in my opinion and experience, i would never consider an offline MLM company, they all rely on selling hype. Honestly just don't do it, learn how to make money online first and then get into those things when you have the time.

You easily make 100 new sales a week but you will have to invest some money designing a good campaigns. But now the question is! How long they will be using the products.
In order to make 10k-50/mo in this industry you have to position your self first.
If you only promote the product, you only get few sales.
Now, you if you promote a business opportunity, that is where you build an empire. This takes a lot of work and dedication but if you do it right! You can easily make 10-50k/mo

customer acquisition costs are high if you don't have a good product that is 'sticky' for reordering/residual income.

MLMers are good targets for IM pro's. Many who join do not have the IM tools and get lost quickly in trying to sell product and build a network.

When looking at MLM companies, be sure to ask how you are allowed to sell the products. Sometimes it sounds like a good idea to simply set up a site and drive traffic but often those methods are not allowed under MLM models.

Do this but promote affiliate products instead.

MLM stands for Most Lose Money. The main reason being they don't have the knowledge and resources to compete in markets where the product is "pushed" rather than sought by the consumer.

I have a lot of experience with MLMs. In the 80s and 90s I tried a bunch of them.

The people who make money are the handful at the top. The money comes from the bottom up. The people at the bottom get nothing. As the money moves up, the lions share rises to the top.

I know people who still have boxes of products in their garages from defunct MLMs. Because they mostly all have one thing in common: They all go away. Some very quickly. When they do, all the "distributors" are left holding the bag.

    Just my two cents.

Absolute nonsense! If you tried a bunch of them then that tells me you were jumping from company to company - a guaranteed way to fail in MLM. Sometimes people do switch companies or add an additional company as long as it doesn't negatively effect their current one.

Here are the facts. You are at the top of your own business in MLM & can create a much larger income than the people above you. It's always been that way.

It is true that often it is best to build MLM "face-to-face" because it is a relationship business. With that said - I've built many relationships online. I've built a large organization over the phone doing conference calls & 3-way calls. I had left MLM 14 years ago after the company I was a distributor & National Sales Director for merged with another. I then spent my efforts on domain name investing & internet marketing. We also owned a clothing store for 6 years. Now I've added MLM back into the mix... but I will primarily promote on the Internet because I like wearing my robe.

Many MLM companies have a lot of non-distributor customers (a sign of a good product company). Some of those customers may end up becoming distributors down the road. People will join your MLM for 1 of 3 reasons or a combination of these reasons -

1 - they like the product
2 - they want to make money
      3 - they like you

If you don't like the products of an MLM then don't join them (did you try the products?).

You can make money just selling the products & many people just do that. The big money is indeed recruiting people & teaching them to do the same (along with product sales). You can build an empire by recruiting 5 serious people... but you may have to recruit 25 or 50 to find those 5 serious people. Large organizations in MLM are built by a lot of people doing a little... it adds up & the residual aspect can be big. I have friends enjoying large 5-6 figure monthly "RESIDUAL" incomes. Can you do that by promoting the next WSO & the next one & the next one & the next one?

My wife & I are reps for a company selling body wraps, skincare, weight loss & nutritionals. I initially was just a customer of my wife (we love the products) but signed up as distributor & will start promoting soon. Why? Customers want the products plus she has one serious distributor on her 2nd level - the volume of her business grew by 46% last month alone (volume already was fairly substantial). Based on my prior experience, knowledge & company growth/practices - MANY people are getting their lives changed financially with many more to come. Hey - here is another one for you. I joined Trafficwave (14 year old autoresponder) last month & was top recruiter for the company. Yeah - they also appeal to traditional affiliates which helps as well. I can build a bigger business & make more money than the people directly above me because that is how it works. People that say "only the people at the top make the money" don't know what they are talking about.

For anyone that wants to succeed in MLM (part-time or full-time) - I HIGHLY recommend you get in the right mindset & start doing things correctly as possible. To be a pro - listen to pros who have done it & not to people who haven't done it. Make sense? Here's a guy you must pay attention to - Eric Worre. Heck - his advice will help you grow your non-MLM businesses.

If you don't have the passion or even the interest to the products you are promoting then you are 80% will fail in that business.

In my opinion it doesn't matter what business you are in. What important is to understand your "WHY" to start that business. Money is not enough as the motivation to keep you dedicated working to achieving your goals.

Unfortunately there is a lot of hype when it comes to MLM and network marketing, and it's usually from people that don't know a thing about how they work.

Recently I was watching a video from a guy that seemed pretty much in the know of a certain network company until... he was calling one company a scam but then he mentioned to look out for these "scams" because they usually post their phone number right on their front page of their website. lol! So I guess all the fortune 500 companies that post their number on their website are also a scam? SMH.

I see what you are trying to do... you are trying to market these products via a website in hopes that you will have the same success your friend is having. My opinion is that if you don't love the product that you are already having an uphill battle and probably won't do good at all. Also, most network marketing is design for in person social sales. There is just too much noise in the internet for anyone to pay attention to all these pages selling MLM products - pretty much across the board. And if you are new and just looking to not spend any money in advertising... well the uphill battle just got pretty much more difficult.

Yes, MLM is possible via internet marketing but it is not something I would recommend for beginners who don't have any sort of knowledge in advertising, or who do not have someone that can show them how to do it well.

My advice is... pick a product that you really love, and don't just focus on building a website and expecting a website to do all the selling for you. Network in person, join groups, talk to people, put your name out there - all while you learn the ins and outs of marketing.

You'll have more success in building your own business than trying to do something just because someone else made money on it.

    Good luck to you.

I don't like MLM marketing at all, or what people in these programs like to call "network marketing." I agree with many of the other posters that these people like to "hype" their systems and how you can become rich overnight. However, some do (which is why these systems still exist).

I've been approached by several people over the years to "get in on an amazing business opportunity" but it's essentially offline affiliate marketing. People will try to recruit you so that they can make a commission off of you and your sales beneath them.

I guess I've always felt that it's a cheap/scammy tactic where you always approach your friends, family, co-workers, business contacts, etc... to try to bring them in.

While people do make money with MLM it's just never been for me. I'd rather create my OWN business and generate income on my own terms without having to abide to their terms and almost cult like following.

I agree with the answers you're getting.

MLM is about pushing a product onto potential prospects - who are not actively looking for that product; it's old-style push "selling". It's the numbers game.

...And people (on both sides) get quickly p****d off with it

My advice is to put your efforts into new-style marketing, which is about finding an active market, building a relationship with the people in it and then providing for their needs... based on what THEY tell you they need. Not what YOU think they should have.

    That is the game.

If you are passionate about the product it is actually not that difficult to recruit people. But if you are not passionate about the product recruiting is a pain in the butt.

If you love the product you will sell it. You will be successful.
Others will see it and ask you how you do it.
That means you have to focus on the product first.

If I was to be involved in mlm or affiliate marketing, i would go online. Your customer is the world. If you know how to market, you can brand yourself as a product reviewer. I've been in offline mlm and one thing I hate is the salesman syndrome. This exist in online mlm and affiliate marketing as well but you can choose to build relation with your audience first then once trust is earned they will follow your vision and partner with you.

Not to mention you can work at your own time anywhere in the world. All you need is a laptop and internet with your common sense and hardwork you can become household name.

MLM is not easy. It usually requires a lot of dedication before you start seeing good results, and most people will give up long before then. This is where the problems occur with MLM. Because for you to be successful in your business, you need people in your business to be successful also, and 99.9 people out of 100 just won't be. And that's a knock-on effect right down the ladder, everybody under you is your life blood in MLM. It's 'vital' that people you recruit-recruit, and people they recruit-recruit, and so on. Cold truth!

As for you not being 'passionate' about the products from this company, that's not so bad as long as you promote as if you are! Trust me, as an affiliate marketer myself, sometimes you just have to show some 'fake passion'!

And did you mean the company coaches your recruitees? Because that would save you lots of time and work, which is good, but only so long as you have interaction with them also or else how will know if they are happy and enthused about things? I don't know.

      Anyway, if i were you..

I would concentrate on that idea about an e-shop!

If you can hit the ground running with that and create an attractive site with lots of great content and product reviews etc, who know's.. it could be your making!

What products are you thinking about promoting and reviewing with it? Am interested to know!

Look at your network marketing opportunity as a business, not a hobby. In order to achieve success, you need the drive and determination of a working professional.
You must have desire to succeed if you want it to happen. This business is real, and you need to take it seriously.

To me it seems that network marketing needs to be tackled by building a team and giving them the tools to best succeed.

I know a few people who do great business just doing the old push the product techniques that have been brought up here.

However, what if you approached it from the angle of team organizer? Build a site that provides information to people on good products to promote. Give them additional resources to help them sell the products. For example, web content, build a site for them, promotional print material, etc. Then if one product ends up burning out, you have an additional one ready to go to take its place.
