Software Development Questions

Greetings Warriors,

Basically I need a pretty basic piece of software developed, i am just wondering what are a few things i need to be aware of.

What places will i find quality freelancers?
I am happy to pay top dollar.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    well there is freelancer, odesk, and elance where you can find freelance programmers to develop your software. As for things to be aware of, there are a few:

    - Maintenance - things tend to break all the time. New OS updates etc and as such you should expect to have to maintain the application
    - Observe the work history of the person you select - ensure that the buyer actually has a portfolio of good work so you wont get trash developed
    - Set expectations and plans - When working with developers you want to ensure they are aware of the budget as well as when you expect to have the product. Also determine the features that you would like the application to have on launch and any additional features you will need in the future.
    - Ensure you are paying in escrow, or some way in which the money isnt given until the completed application is delivered and working as promised

      Thanks so much for your feedback, I will ensure that i pay only through escrow when working with developers now.

      This will either be a web based application or desktop software i am not too sure yet, thanks again for your help.
