What solution would you use to secure ... an online video course?

Hi Warriors,

I'm about to release a video based product and wanted to find out what are some popular solutions that you guys use to secure your digital products.

I plan on structuring the video site this way:

domain.com/videopart1
domain.com/videopart2
domain.com/videopart3

and securing all the pages for paid clients.

I'm not intending for it to be a downloadable product since the video is embedded on the page itself.

So ... how would you go about it if you were me?

Cheers all!

I would probably use amember although this can be used with a little .htaccess and .htpasswd coding.

I use DLGuard and host my videos on Viddler for my Computer Training Unleashed course. There is a little trick to doing the private Viddler hosting thing, PM me for details.

    Cheers, Rich

I posted a similar question earlier today (no responses yet though) re- using a membership site to host my private members-only videos. I believe there is a WordPress plugin that can do it (something to do with membership sites).
My issue was that i didn't want to pay on a monthly basis for a membership script so in my case AMember was out of the question.

Amember is not a monthly subscription.

Thanks Kenneth i didn't realise but i heard from them that you can only install the script per domain so it wouldn't do me any good because i want a script that will serve me for multiple domains. Still, if anyone is looking for a single license membership script, aMember does look. I was also wary of the fact that if you want 'bells & whistles' you have to pay for add-ons.

I'm in the process of setting up a paid members area for the Learn To Make Websites membership site listed in my signature. The paid area will be where I keep my videos, and the free membership with the ebook (which is currently the onlyoption) will be just a giveaway to build my list.

Anyway, I used Memberfire to build it. Memberfire I think is $47 for a one site license, with an upsell for an unlimited license for another $27. It's pretty easy to use also. There's a couple things to figure out, but they are easy to get through.

I am hosting the videos that will be in the members area on screencast.com. Screencast allows you to have a free account with 2gb of storage and 25 gb of bandwidth. After that you can upgrade for $10 per month for additional storage and bandwidth.

When I was looking around, it looked like Amazon's S3 service would be a lot cheaper than anything else, including Screencast. I went with screencast for now because I want a quick solution to get started with. Amazon's S3 seemed like it had a bit more learning curve than I want to deal with right now.

I want to get them up and going quick. I would like to have the paid membership live within the next 2 weeks. Once I'm live I will take some time to learn more about using S3 and probably move to that.

Screencast allows you to set your videos to a "shared" setting. This means that only people you provide a link to will be able to view the video. I am going to embed the videos on pages in my site and implement it all that way.

    To your success,
    Mike
