How long was it before you 'took action'? And how soon after that did you see results?

So roughly how long did it take for you from becoming interested in internet marketing (say visiting this forum regularly) to the point at which you started building your first list or funnel?

And then how long after until you made your first sale? I imagine its a bit like your first kiss, nobody really forgets it!

Just curious but hoping it might encourage some people to take action themselves.

For me personally I have been looking at internet marketing as a possible career on and off for a couple of years. I have experimented with different things but only put a concrete plan together this weekend.

Looking back I suppose the only thing stopping me was not believing 100% that this was something that I wanted to spend a significant amount of my free time doing and, if I'm honest, believing that I could be successful at it.

I feels so great to have finally committed myself, I actually don't care (well, I do a bit) if my first project makes money or not - if this one doesn't work out then I will learn from it and improve next time.

So come on, what's your story?

I have seen the internet marketing hype for about 6 months online until I got convinced to try selling affiliate products. I say almost everyone has lost some valuable time and money finding the right method to make a consistent amount of sales, but as for me it took about 2 weeks to 30 days to get a good idea on how to start making sales.

From typing in 'make money online' or whatever it was to actually taking some action took around 6 months, I suppose 3 months after that I earned my first commission on an affiliate sale and with the odd glitch it has got better and better since then.

The initial wasted six months was due to a lack of confidence and a belief that there was some 'secret' to it all.

I've always been interested in IM, but didn't start until January this year. Took me two months to make my first affiliate sale, which boosted my motivation.

You have to find products you truly believe in, and have used, if you want to be successful.

It seems a lot of people who get into IM or Affiliate Marketing have never tried or bought the product they're selling, which is a path to failure.

I used to be nervous about spending money on new products thinking... What if it doesn't work?! Well, not everything works so I use it as a learning experience. Plus, it's cheaper than going to college. ;-)

Tough to say, I looked into IM when I was 18 yrs old or something but never did anything with it, then through the years I looked back but mostly those poor methods like click to get paid and such. I didn't really see the light back then.

My first serious attempt was about 3 years ago, I started a site about some boring topic but with good search volume and within 1 month I was making a few hundred dollar a month from it with Adsense.

I figured I could rank sites pretty well and I filled a gap with an SEO service, back then you had those $69/monthly subscriptions to public blog networks like ALN, HPRS, UAW etc. so I combined like 8 of such networks in one service so that people didn't have to pay all those subscriptions their selves.

Just one time packages really and that took off pretty good till Google deindexed the whole bunch.

Then I had to recompile my service and from then on it was quite a bit less effective, soon I started to build my own network though, step by step, and now here I am, a successful SEO provider that decided to move to Thailand (1.5 year ago already).

So how long did it take during my first serious attempt? A couple of weeks!

How long did it take till I started to make a very decent "9-5 job replacing" income? About 4-5 months!

  • Hi Ed Holden and others,

My own story I think more realistically illustrates the truth behind the many lies and hype about making fortunes online.

I suppose I really got serious and started by learning the basics first from Mr Chris Farrell because no body explains how to begin more clearly especially for beginners how to get started than he does in his famous membership which I joined in September 2009 and recently left a few short months ago.

Chris is excellent at getting the basics right and building your first online business on solid foundations BUT in my opinion there is far too much emphasis on FREE traffic and not enough on traffic that you pay for nor enough on traffic in general? No traffic no money!

So I moved on and decided to try other online training how to make money online courses and in my opinion again I think two of the best are Adam Short's Niche Profit Classroom and Felix Kelly and Mike Long's Bring the Fresh which both go into a lot more detail on what's important, which is traffic and website optimization for free page ranking of blogs and sales letters.

I am finally making money online as a result of what I learnt from all three of the above but learning about traffic and SEO and so on is what makes the biggest leap forward.

I never discuss what I earn because that is irrelevant to someone else because results are directly proportional to work completed and too many are not willing to do the work or make the effort vital for sustainable success.

    Regards,

    Stephen & Jennifer.

I got my teeth kicked in towards the end of August 2011.

Started my IM site the first day of September.

Released my first PLR product 10/3/11.

    Haven't looked back since.

So.... I'd say I was single-minded, focused, and success came rather quickly.

    Hope that helps!

Thanks everybody for sharing your experiences, everybody has their own story but all of you took action, none of you gave up and I'm sure that you all worked hard to get to where you are.

I agree wholeheartedly with this, I've spent hours considering all sorts of niches but I wouldn't feel comfortable selling some random product from clickbank to them unless I truly believed in it.

Thanks Barbara, that actually helps a lot!

I went through a similar experience in 2011 when I lost virtually everything overnight. Since then I have been slowly re-building my life and even though I haven't yet achieved my goals I am grateful for what it has taught me about life.

Your website has actually been on my reading list for a while after downloading one of your free WSOs on promoting blogs so I will bump it up the list now.

One day, or, more precisely; one minute. I was in this business before there was an Internet so when I got on line it was for the sole purpose of further building my business. It still took me a couple months to make my first purely Internet generated money - $10 with Harvey Segal's SuperTips.

Soon as i read about taking my knowledge and sell it in the form of an ebook...i did it...

So from reading to doing it - maybe 7 days.

This was back in 2011. I've put it on CB and had the first sale in about 2 or 5 days after listing.

I heard about affiliate marketing on a CNN article, bought a training on it the same day. Took action the same day and made my first sale in 3 days.

Made close to $300 my first 7 days, $1,000 my first 14 days and $3,000 my first 30 days.

It wasn't long before I was making 6 figures after that.

I would say just stop thinking about it, and just do it already. There is no money made sitting around thinking about it.
