Can I use the images in the website template I bought?
I've also got a question on website templates. I notice there are a lot of WSO in this forum selling pre-made websites. One thing I'd like to check is regard image copyrights.
To my understanding, images from places like ShutterStock can be used ONE time under standard licenses. If you want to use it for inclusion in a website template to be sold, you need an extended license (which can be $100 per IMAGE). This is to protect the photographer from having his or her image sold at super cheap prices in some other medium like a website template.
My question is, in pre-made website templates I purchase from the providers in this forum, are the image copyrights ok? That is, if there is an Image ABC of e.g. "Weight Loss" in the template header, can I publish that same image in my own website?
My gut feeling is that I cannot - unless the service provider bought the image under an extended license, or maybe got permission from the photographer or got it from Creative Commons. Note that "royalty free images" still do not qualify to be included in website templates.
I wanted to hear your thoughts on this so I can feel safer in using the images provided by the service provider. Thanks!
