Hello,

My name is Nat and I came across this forum while searching for internet marketing for my business (I have a health and wellness facility) back in 2010. Never really thought anything of it until a friend of mine who is in the internet marketing business is doing EXTREMELY well... How well? Enough where he's going to be selling his two companies for $100 million each in our recent conversation. This really opened my eyes to the possibility of venturing into this business for myself. If anything, I'll learn how to promote my brick and mortar business via internet.

I have browsed this forum extensively and read many threads regarding how to get into this business.. problems people have.. the difficulties of this business.. and the successful returns for many internet marketing entrepreneurs.

A couple of questions I'd like to ask you all:

1) Why are there people who have been in it for such a long time, still find it difficult to make the amount of money that some made in the last 3 years of starting? Is there a type of internet business model or niche that produces more revenue than others?

2) How accurate are the claims that I've seen with the $15K revenue, $100K revenue? I have a feeling that their expenses are just about as high and their net maybe 10-15% at best... based on my business experience. (My friend who is selling his companies make about 18-21%.. so by far, he's probably one of the largest companies in this internet marketing space)

3) What is the future of internet marketing do you think? A lot answers has been mobile... but what is after that?

Thanks for reading my post, and I hope I can become a valuable contributor to this forum in someway. I am a newbie, but I am very fascinated and interested in the market.

Btw, I know a lot of you sit at the computer all day, and your backs are probably aching and in pain for those late nights. If you have any concerns or questions about your neck or back pain, feel free to PM me and I'll try to help as much as I can... take it as my first valuable contribution

The reasons behind this are many. I could write a whole book on this one topic. From experience in working with a lot of people over the past decade, most people that jump into the online business world either want easy riches, aren't willing to really treat their endeavor like a business, or they don't have the right mindset.

Way too many people jump from one project to another and they never build any momentum. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people quit when they were so close to seeing results.

Is there a type of internet business model or niche that produces more revenue than others?
Not easy to answer because for someone to answer that fully, they would need to have had experience AND success running different types of business models.

Every marketer has their bias, mine happens to be creating your own products and marketing them.

    2) How accurate are the claims that I've seen with the $15K revenue, $100K revenue? I have a feeling that their expenses are just about as high and their net maybe 10-15% at best... based on my business experience. There's no real way of measuring this. Unless we have privy to everyone's books, there's just no way of verifying it.

However, I've been around the block more than once both in the offline and online world, and my gut tells me most people exaggerate what they earn. And I'm not basing that on what drunk people tell me at seminars.

    3) What is the future of internet marketing do you think? A lot answers has been mobile... but what is after that?
The sky is the limit. Mobile advertising continues to grow. E-books have already outsold hardcover and softcover books.

      Hi Nat,

      Welcome to the Forum.

      In answer to your questions..............

      1) Why are there people who have been in it for such a long time, still find it difficult to make the amount of money that some made in the last 3 years of starting? Is there a type of internet business model or niche that produces more revenue than others?
This is really two questions. People who find it difficult to make money often try one thing and, when they feel its not working move to another new 'shiny idea' and then another then another - what is called the 'Shiny Object Syndrome'. Others are just not business minded and so its gong to take them longer to actually 'get it'.

Its difficult to say if there is a model that produces more revenue than others - people are making money using a wide variety of models. Obviously, niche selection can make or break a business. I think that anyone looking to make money online should identify a profitable niche first and then decide which business model to employ to exploit that niche.

I think the thing you have to bear in mind is that just because someone else can make $XXX s revenue does not mean that you will. You might make more, or less. You can't tell. Also as you say, revenue is not profit and it is profit that we are actually interested in.

      3) What is the future of internet marketing do you think? A lot answers has been mobile... but what is after that?
Who knows. But internet marketing is just 'marketing'. We may be using different tools than we did 20 years ago but we still need the same core marketing skills that people needed in the past - being able to identify people's needs and selling products and services to meet those needs.

Same as always. You advertise - capture your prospects info. - followup. The medium depends on your personal style. Their are a million ways to do it but the core remains unchanged.

Everyone will have an opinion and they will vary widely. Find what fits you best.

The future of the internet is that people will still be making money on the internet. I doubt the feds have any inclination of shutting the internet down soon... especially not to run after "make money online" scammers.

Thank you for all of your input. I hope to gain more knowledge browsing through these threads and attempting to implement the ideas and processes that have been working for other successful internet marketers.

Btw, have any of you all tried the health and wellness niche?

Very popular niche, possibly in the top 5 niches of all time if you are looking at it in a broad sense.

      My two suggestions...

1 - Decide on a niche and start building a list. Learn email marketing first. Get hosting, a way to make squeeze pages and figure out how to monetize the list you create.

Reason: A list essentially solves the problem of getting regular traffic to any website and/or offer you have.

Complicated SEO and Social Marketing strategies can take a while to learn and in the long run - cost a significant amount of money in the mean time. However, if you have a list you can turn to any time you want - you can still earn a healthy amount of money while you are learning those other things.

This is where I went wrong and where a lot of others do as well.

2 - If you are actually a chiropractor, consider implementing SMS Marketing in your actual business.

Reason: Do you know you are slow the last week of every month for instance? Offer a coupon sent via txt message for 30% off adjustments to anyone that schedules an appointment for that week and shows the text advertisement to your secretary/assistant, etc.

My chiropractor took my advice on this and had to stop because he couldn't schedule enough appointments during that last week of the month to meet the demand of his patients that wanted in.

What a problem to have, right?

A lot of people quit because it's their belief and mindset that its going to be an easy earning!

Yes you do have a pretty good chance, if you do your work

They get dissappointed when They dont see earnings right away. To be honest for a business online to start you dot really need much invested compared to a brick and mortar business.

Your risk is a lot less as well. And if you do risk something on online business it is in advertising complementing your organic traffic while it picks up momentum.

Like what everyone said above, you must treat this business like a real business. In fact, like a baby!

I have seen some of my friends go from debt and broke and making 100k a month in three years. Some went from 10k days!

I have experienced myself success in my niche in network marketing but it does take a lot of work to get setup but once you get it going, you are off to the races!

The future of internet business will only continue to grow and get stronger as you see more and more companies uses advertising on internet compared on television.

Just look at netflix and youtube! The future is very bright online and the convenience of starting one and maintenance of your business anywhere you are is definitely a lifestyle you need to dig in.

Being consistent and providing value to your followers for little or no return sees you as authority and your audience joins you in any recommendations that are giving you success.

      Hi Nat,

Just saw your "other" thread and left you a comment over there.

I do agree with godoveryou that building a list is very important. That's going to help you with your own local business AND your online business whether you sell your own products or affiliate products - or (preferably) both.
