Conversion Rate Comparison of Different Traffics

Hello everybody,

I was wondering from your experience - when you are marketing a product - have you noticed a big difference of the conversion rate from different sources?

what usually converts better:
articles?
PPC?
Organic traffic from the search engines?
traffic from forums and blogs?

or is it pretty much the same CR to all sources?

Thanks, and have a great day,
Amit

It does vary a lot. The colder the traffic, the worse it will convert. The warmer (i.e the better the relationship you have with the prospect), then better the conversion rate.

Impossible to say that X converts better than Y because there's more to it than that. I have some keywords in PPC that convert at 5%, others won't convert at all.

This is why it's so important to track conversions from every traffic source.

I must admit that I don't track like I should, but the best converting traffic source for me is JVs and affiliates.

If a prospect trusts the JV/affiliates recommendation, then it's easier for me to gain the prospects trust and they are much more likely to buy.

There can be a wide variation in conversion rate across traffic types, there also can be a wide variation within traffic types.

As has been stated earlier the key is tracking, testing and monitoring and then do it all again.

You could turn a 1% conversion into a 5% conversion if you could stop attracting the 0.01% converting traffic. It does not produce more sales but allows you to concentrate on the 20% of your business that makes the money.

The point is to focus on your niche.

Find out exactly where your potential customer is hanging out.

I would say forums convert well. Organic converts well and content also converts well.

Participate in those 3 things and you have a good start.
