I don't believe there is such thing as "cloud hosting" - as all hosts are "in the cloud".

Now, companies may say cloud hosting...but...it's just fancy terminology to make people oo and ah. And they may say cloud as in you can easily modify it to fit your requirements...just like a VPS.

As for cloudflare...it's basically a website optimizer. It kind of sits on top of your website and filters it's content through some compressors (image, js, css, etc) and a CDN....all geared at increasing your site's speed.

It does some other stuff with security as well...but basically, it's a "website optimizer"

I just wanted to clarify that CloudFlare doesn't provide hosting services of any sort. If you use CloudFlare on your site, you still keep your existing hosting provider when using our services to speed up and protect your site.

      Hi Damon.

      Thanks for your reply.

This is kind of confusing to me. Is CloudFare same as VPS?

        Hi,

No, we don't provide hosting services of any sort (VPS, shared, etc.). We're a CDN and security solution for websites that works via DNS. You would still keep your host because we don't host your website's content.

While the other post is correct about us as a CDN is correct, we also do other things like:

        Security
Website Optimization (image optimization, minify, asynchronous JavaScript loading).

CloudFlare does both website performance and security.

CloudFlare is a Content Delivery Network (CDN). You set your domain DNS to CloudFlare, then your content will go through them before delivery to client's browser. CloudFlare will cache your static content like images, so it will reduce your bandwidth and increase page loading speed. It can also enhance your website security, display custom error messages when your server is down, provide analynics, act as dns servers, etc.. It doesn't mean we should choose CloudFlare all the time. If my server works fine then I would rather choose not to use CloudFlare because it is a longer route. CloudFlare is down sometime and your visitors will can not see your website.
Cloud hosting is a hosting service and it will store your files. I am not an expert in cloud hosting but I believe the different between it and traditional hosting is it resources are located from all around the internet, where ever a location available for the hosting provider.
