Track Your Tweets...I'm Dead Serious

Those of you on Twitter, track your tweets. See what times of the day give
you the best results.

This is similar to email marketing and the times you send out your email.

The best way to test this is to send out a regular tweet (maybe about
your blog being updated) but each day for a week, do it at a different
time. Maybe 9 AM one day, 12 PM the next day, 3 PM the next day and
maybe 6 PM the day after that.

Look to see what tweet times bring you the most visitors to your blog.

Naturally, in order to get a real handle on the numbers, you're going to have
to do a lot of testing, just like with anything else. But after doing this for
several months, I have a clear trend for what times bring me the most
visitors to my site and on what days.

Think about it...whoever is following you, they're not on every minute of
every day. Some people are such creatures of habit that they're on the
same time everyday. By doing this, you'll get a feel for when most of
your followers are on and can then make the most out of your tweeting
efforts.

Yes, it takes some work, but I have found that is is worth it. I now try to
do my main tweets, for promotional purposes, around the same time each
day.

My suggestion is simply to test it out and see what kind of results you get.
You may find that the time you're regularly tweeting is not the best time
for your particular followers.

    100% correct.
when i first noticed the bursts that i was getting in my email inbox it made me think about the importance of both email timing and tweeting times.
now the reason tracking is important is that certain products will get a "business" reaction and others a "social" reaction.
so if i was tweeting porn, which i do not, late at night would be the best time, i suppose.
i am amazed as to how different tweets get such diverse reactions.
    test. test. test and track.

Hi Steven, good points to bring up...

Tracking is essensial... One must also take into account their target audience & be aware of time zones & other factors of those specific targeted areas. There must be flexibility allowed to adjust to your targets. If your targeting the USA, 5pm differs greatly from east coast to west coast. If you find in general that most visitors to your blog come when people return from work, say at 6pm, then you must account for 6pm east coast, central, mountain, west coast...by not doing so will miss a large target.
It's not what time schedule works for you, it's what time schedule works for your target audience.

    Some food for thought...

    Steve,

Tracking when to tweet is very important and it does change with the type of site people have.

On our internet radio station site, the best time to interact with listeners, is different then the time to interact with musicians that may be interested in getting their music played.

I can pick the types of responses we are looking for an focus on those times to tweet.

    Steven, great idea.

But I still have no clue how we can go about doing that. How are you doing it?

Maybe time for another custom software. Let's see.

It's easy. When you tweet a link, use a tracking link. If the link is too long
for the tweet box, wrap the tracking link in a Tiny URL.

      Like I said...simple.

Hey that's a good idea Steven. So what time of day is the best to tweet?

A good way to track your tweets is with Bit.Ly , it tells you how many clicks each link gets. Be sure to make them unique.

There is no best time of day for any one person. As I said, it depends on
your followers, niche and other factors. But, and this is what's important,
if you test this out, you will find a best time for you.

    and tweaked.

Great point there steven, some really nice things to consider.
