Suggestions for Shared Hosting

Hello I'm looking to start a simple WP blog with a decent amount of video and sound files and I'm looking for a the best shared hosting option on a budget. HawkHost seems to be a good solution, anyone with recent experience have anything positive/negative to say about their service? Also looking for alternative suggestions as well.

    If your based in the uk go with TSO host. There middle plan is only £50 per year and there support is the best.

    @halfsaint I'm based in the U.S.

    @savebook I've used both of them in the past but they now are all subsidiaries under the umbrella of EIG (Endurance International Group) among many other smaller hosting companies that were bought up since I've used them and I've found through a bit of research that the quality has suffered greatly so. I'm looking for something not so commercial and a bit more dedicated and designed for the end-user.

    @Seven, I have been using both for several years. I admit HostGator's performance in terms of Downtime and Support has further deteriorated, However BlueHost is still serving good enough.

    You can also give a try to MDDHosting, they aren't too much commercial as you had mentioned and they are offering LiteSpeed WebServer which is 9x faster than traditional Apache web server. But as long as you will go with dedicated websites you will have to increase your budget and you will see limited resources such as storage and bandwidth.

    I have been hosting my sites for a number of years now and this keeps coming. Here is the thing

    Go for hostgator if you are looking for shared , economical and reliable hosting.
    Go for know host if you are looking for vps , economical and reliable hosting.
    Go for digitalocean if you are technical. Awesome value for your money.

    For hosting your video and audio files I would recommend screencast.com for blog hosting mddhosting.com Just don't go with EIG brands..

    Just as a heads up, you may be pushed into a VPS if you truly have a ton of audio and video files. I would make sure the host you select has a seamless upgrade so you don't have to switch hosts. In your case it does look like HawkHost offers a selection of VPSes.

    Mddhosting is looking really good, I also found some excellent reviews for HostWithLove anyone used them? It looks like you can choose LiquidWeb's server in Lansing, MI idk if that means they are the same company, and I found a discount code which offers

    I use hetzner.de.

    Virtually ZERO support, but cheap dedicated servers. I pay around $70 for mine (core i7 with 32gb of ram and SSD). Not sure if you need that much though

    I am currently using HawkHost for a few things. I haven't had any issues. In my opinion, they're the best in shared hosting at this time. I would be a little hesitant to say it's a perfect fit for you, since you have video and sound files. Depends how much traffic your site will be getting...

    If it's a lot, you may need something more robust.

    @Highway55 It'll be a niche music blog where I'll post Youtube videos and Soundcloud tracks as blog posts, I know they can be kind of heavy so I'm a bit concerned about that. It won be a huge database but I'll be adding a couple every day.

      Load time is a big factor in a site's bounce rate. I would start with a shared host, and if it's too slow... have a secondary option planned just in case.

    You could host some of your audio and video files on AmazonS3. That would take some of the bandwidth transfer off your web host. I've always used HostGator for my websites and have had nothing but a positive experience with them.

    Hostgator is awesome. Their shared hosting is great value for money and you get a lot of space. I think it is also worth considering customer support whenever I have had any problems at all Hostgator has always been very efficient is sorting them out for me. They get back to you when they say they will. Actually its one of the few companies I would highly recommend.

    Have you considered hosting your video someplace like YouTube? This would offload some of the demand on your hosting provider and definitely makes shared hosting a more viable option for you.
