CreateSpace Discontinuing MP3 Program

This may not be of interest to many marketers here as I'm not sure how many of you market products independently in the form of mp3's, however it seems that Amazon decided to discontinue the mp3 program on CreateSpace as of October 15, 2014.

As for our products, we do have distributors that send out product to retail including Amazon etc, so this does not affect us, however I know of some independent folks who had a good little thing going here, and focused much of their efforts on this outlet for marketing their mp3's independently without having to go through a distributor.

So you see, it's always good not to keep all your products in one basket, and relying on one 3rd party company (as large as they may be) in order to make the bulk of your income, as they can decide to throw you off your tracks, just like that.

We're sorry to announce that CreateSpace will no longer distribute MP3s as of October 15, 2014. We are constantly evaluating our service catalog and have decided to discontinue support for MP3 as we work to provide our customers with the most cost effective and valuable services.

Distribution will continue until October 15, when all MP3 titles will be removed from the Amazon Digital Music Store and CreateSpace. You will continue to have access to your account, title information and royalty reports. Payment for any remaining MP3 royalties, regardless of threshold, will be issued within the regular MP3 payment timeline.

Other distributors can list your content in the Amazon Digital Music Store, scroll down to see the list under "Digital Music Store."

You can find more information in our Help Pages.

We'd like to thank you for using CreateSpace and wish you great success in the future.

Kind Regards,

The CreateSpace Team

Is does appear that Amazon is continuing placing mp3 product via distributors, and with that, I wonder if they made some exclusive deals with distributors, thus not allowing for independents to be listed without going through a distributor, Or, maybe it was simply an accounting headache and not profitable to host mp3 files of individual artists who are not moving product.

Anyone want to venture a guess?
