It's not an either or. Use Wordpress on Hostgator (or any other
paid hosting service). It installs in just a few clicks. You will
then also have full control of what plugins you want to use.

If you start a blog and use WordPress (dot) com to host it, WordPress won't allow you to use Google AdSense. Here's the full article explaining this:
        Advertising -- Support -- WordPress.com

As Rich mentioned, it will be far more beneficial to your business to get your own hosting.

        Hope that helps,
        Eugen

If you're hosted at WordPress.com you can't put the actual signup form on your WordPress blog but you can link to the submission form hosted at Aweber.

Personally, I'd purchase a web hosting package as it gives you full control of what goes where be it advertising or Aweber and so on.

    Jamie,

I highly recommend staying away from WordPress.com... It is their "playground" and their rules..... I personally wouldn't want a "third party" in control of my business.

I would highly recommend hosting your website or blog on your own hosting... whether it be HostGator or Arvixe. You control your WordPress site there... You can choose which plug-ins to install.

Wow what an insightful comment.... or some other other host is best, really??? Well thanks for the genius input.

My advice would be use free hosting until you learn what you are doing hostgator is paid hosting there are options such as cloudflare.

To be honest I would Google and learn about blogs, adsense, wordpress and hosting first as your post seems like you may not know which one is which.

If you want to monetize your WordPress blog, self hosting it is the way to go. Get yourself a domain name, web hosting account, and install Wordpress on your hosting account. That's really all there is to it. Do you have any further questions?

Hey you should get your hosting package from HostGator which is really awesome and cheap.
Also they have a service named QuickInstaller. By that service you can start your Wordpress website within seconds.

    Good Luck

I'm using wordpress on hostgator. I don't know about some warrior comments on hostgator, but to me, it's the best hosting provider I've come across.

To the OP, Internet Marketing can be confusing when you start out.
Your confusion with wordpress is that you can use wordpress.com "free" --- do not do this if you intend to make monetize your blog with Adsense. An earlier post had the link to their terms of service.
    Do these steps ...
    1. Register your domain name at namecheap,
    2. buy a hosting package on namecheap (or another non-EIG owned hosting company--bluehost and hostgator are EIG)
    3. install wordpress via the cpanel of your hosting account- this means you use the wordpress platform (do not confuse with wordpress.com) for your site -- it's like a houseplan for building your house - (alternatives are joomla, drupal, etc)
    4. upload a wordpress-based theme - this is like your interior design style of your house - your can use wordpress's basic 2014 theme if you want
    5. Install plug-ins and test them - this is like home appliances - features
    6. Add and Keep building your content - this is like your home decor accessories - lamps and wall art
    7. Keep building content related to your main focus
If you're lost in all this, go to warriors for hire or fiverr and get someone to do steps 1-5 for you.
    Good luck for great success!
RE: post #12: Amen! Avoid EIG hosting companies. Last year, we rescued several companies' sites from hostgator after their entire server system was down for 2 days -- in the middle of each companies' promo campaigns. Go to the link on post#12 to learn more about EIG's hidden domination of web hosting and why it's not customer friendly. Or just get to work building your blog and learning more about Internet Marketing. Take action rapidly, keep learning in a focused way (don't buy bright shiny objects every time they hit your mailbox) and you'll be on your way!

Yes, it is always in your best interest to own the domain you are dealing with and installing WP on it via your hosting (Hostgator).

That way it's your rules (mostly) and you can do whatever you want. You have total control.

If you're planning to set up a blog and monetize it, use Hostgator. Once you buy a domain name and hosting, you'll be able to install WordPress with one click. Do not use WordPress.com to create a free blog because they don't allow Google AdSense or other advertising networks. When you run your own website or blog, you have full control over your content. It's a much better option.

Wordpress is working cool with hostgator but you may also use Hostwinds, Godaddy or BlueHost.

I think it's better to go with hostgator or do a self-hosted blog than building it on wordpress.com
If you are serious making money and moving forward.. then you should have total control of what
    your property (website)

What others said, I would recommend using wordpress on hostgator. You must be in control and no one else.

Also you can easily find a free premium wp theme and install it yourself.

I've had good experience hosting a Wordpress website on Siteground.

They start out cheap for a startup plan and their support is really great. Learning Wordpress, I have broken things a few times and they always reply within a few minutes and have fixed everything that I've ended up breaking.

They do a special deal for new websites, but try and sign up for as long as you can at the basic price (3 years ideally) as it'll save you more in the long run.

They've previously had deals as well where you can get a years hosting for the price of a month, but although this is great for the first year and can let you see how everything works, it does work out more expensive than signing up for 3 years upfront at the cheaper price.

      Good luck with your venture
