What is your biggest mental block?

I would say that my biggest mental block is being creative.
I feel that I should be creative but when I try to do something
in a unique was, I get a brain cramp.

My biggest mental block is surfing to other websites. I really do believe I might have ADD (if that really exists). But, when I actually make a list, I tend to get a lot done. So, I believe from now on every day, the very last item on my list will be. "Make a list for tomorrow." Wow. Can't believe I just though of that now. Thanks for the thread!

I love lists. Indeed, I am maniacal about them. Even on vacation,
I make a "to-do" list. Without this list, I do NOTHING constructive.

If I may offer an opinion. When you make your list,,,,,,,start with the
thing you want to do least and are most likely to put off.

The internet is a very busy place, lots of people talking all at once.

When you have work to do, sometimes you just have to disconnect yourself from the distractions. And, that means no visits to email or Facebook or anything that won't produce money. At the end of the month will you have earned enough money from playing Facebook games or surfing around to pay next month's rent? If not, you have to get it together and focus on what's most important.

Quite true. I check me emails, then I am reading the sports,
etc. Somehow, I don't find Facebook that addictive. Not sure
why not.

Im my opinion one of the biggest things that holds people back is focus.

Yes, if you are not a creative, then either hire someone or JV with someone who is.

But being able to stay focused... "keep your eyes on the prize" so to speak and keep making movement forward every day.

Mine is staying focused. I've been guilty in the past of chasing "shiny objects" as they come around, and it has done nothing but hold me back from becoming as successful as I know I can be. I have an acrostic taped to my desk which helps me remember what focus is all about. Maybe this can help you too.

For awhile, when I was younger Number 8 could be an obstacle for me.

People closest to me, family members and friends, speaking their Minds always had an impact on me.

Later in Life, I begin to learn that most of these people were just speaking their opinions but had little experience or knowledge to back up their strong opinions.

So consequently, I just stopped listening to them and trusted my own intuitions and did my own research on things

Definitely FOCUS! I am doing IM part time right now so what precious time I do get to spend it is not always the highest value activity that I am working on. Plus I am easily distracted as this work is usually at the end of a long day. I am going to try to set aside time in the mornings on the weekends to do work when I am in a different place with energy.

..Actually seeing this list in front of me I think will actually be helpful.

A lot of times I try and juggle all of my thoughts and tasks in my head, which leads to stifled progress. But actually seeing my strengths and weaknesses in front of me is rather sobering.

I think you are doing great if criticism, right attitude and perseverance are
at the bottom of your list! Those are real roadblocks sometimes.

Distractions are my biggest road block (though I would not call it a mental block). So I try to block out everything that is not work related and push through. I don't handle any business that is related to a personal matter. No Facebook. No personal calls. No texts to friends/family during the time that I'm working. This helps me focus and get the job done.

Lack of perseverance would have to be mine. It takes time to make money online. There's no "money button" and thats just the fact of it. Results take time and if you quit before the results you are seeking come through, you lose.

Perseverance might be the most important quality
in any business or even life itself.

But, the Internet is a very strange business, model.

We plod on and on, not making any money and

I am very consistent but creativity is a tuff one for me too.

For consistency, maybe make a "to do" list. I try to do my
least favorite items on the list first.

  Some people use perfectionism as an excuse not to even begin a project. Though it sounds more like you have a nearly perfect product ready at some point. The key is just to launch it and refine as you get customer feedback.

Criticism is a tuff one. I like to say that I don't care what
anyone says but it is not true.

But I try not to let it influence me in a negative way. I move
on & on. Keep on, keeping on............

Remember that those who criticize you may not understand what
you are tying to accomplish. Or may not understand you at all.

My biggest mental block was 'belief' and this leads to having a poor mindset.

I took longer than the average person to start seeing the results that I thought I deserved but that was because of a 'poor' belief in my self.

If you lack belief in yourself, all of the other points that you said above will be out of whack.

Ask yourself this...

If you knew it in your heart (without a shadow of doubt) that you could succeed no matter what you needed to do and create your ticket to 'freedom' for life, would you:

1- Take Action?

2- Stay Focused?

3- Be Consistent?

Of course you would unless you are too lazy and willing to 'settle' for the life that you already have.

The great majority of people who fail in IM fail because of this one problem...

They lose the excitement needed (fuel or inspiration) not too long after they started some kind of project online and 'Quit' because they lose the 'belief' in themselves.

Then what happens next?

Maybe some of us go onto other projects hoping that 'new' thing will work out (I know I did that many times) and it doesn't because of the same reoccurring problem...

Belief in one's self.

And that is why I work on myself more than any project or venture with personal development material (in my downtime).

No matter how successful we become, the 'mind' will keep coming up with the usual BS reasons why we can't do something.

Sometimes you will hear other people close to you tell you that you can't do something.

But when you tell yourself that you can't do something (and you start believing that), you will become your biggest Dream stealer.

Perhaps a written schedule would help.

Past experiences-- 2009, I made about double the money I usually make and lost all my friends because I was at work 3 hours longer than before. 2010, I got a sales job and moved across the country temporarily. Because of that, my ex broke up with me. 2011 was okay, 2012 was a series of one crash after another all year. 2013 was a case of "either make money or have friends, but not both". 2014's been a case of Don't Try Anything, You'll Lose Everybody..

Don't lose heart DG. You can make money and if you have to work
a lot, find friends of a like mind.

But, maybe analyze the good and bad points of a job or money-
making enterprise before you get into it.

Everything has a price. Is that price worth the benefit? This can be
a tuff decision.

My biggest mental block in releasing Novanetics has been hesitation.
Hesitation because days before sending the manuscript in for editing I would discover another dozen or so techniques that "simply must be tested before I include them" in the products... that sort of thing.

In fairness, such hesitation helped to craft a better product, but at the cost of delays and lost market penetration.

Another has been indecision, which is simply a loss avoidance strategy of the unconscious mind. Indecision whether or not to release some (or all) of the product (s) for FREE, etc.

I've often said, "...if only I'd skipped class that day!!!" LOL

For me it's 9. Just KNOWING what is available to you and what is possible.

It's hard for me to believe that anyone can make money... like big money doing copywriting and selling products and services over the internet. I read one guy was selling a $67 book on internet marketing online and was getting 10 orders a day, earning $670 in revenue per day.

That's insane to me. That's almost $250,000 in a year! That's crazy! Is this happening on a daily basis for people? Is that possible? I need to hear more testimonies and stories and I want to hear numbers because it helps me to believe that this is real.

That's insane to me. That's almost $250,000 in a year! That's crazy! Is this happening on a daily basis for people? Is that possible? I need to hear more testimonies and stories and I want to hear numbers because it helps me to believe that this is real.

Some make an absurd amount of money.

But perhaps 98% make very little.

If you stick with it, you will do well.

It is a very strange business model.

The investment in money is moderate compared to
a brick-and-mortar business.

But it takes a lot of time and you might go years
without making any money.

But, if you really love it and stick with it, you will
succeed.

I think that most of us struggle with focus. We are bombarded
ceaselessly with all kinds of media and distractions,

Some cannot even enjoy a walk without their Ipad or Smart
Phone or head phones.

Life can be very complicated.

I find making a priority list to be helpful.

I am great with creativity and innovation but find it hard to ground a project and discipline myself for long enough period of time to bring the project to completion. We all have different personality types for wealth creation. Read more: Wealth Dynamics personality profile versus Myers Briggs.

The smart thing to do is to work to your personality type and then team up with others. I am a Creator type so i find it easy to innovate and come up with new product and marketing ideas but to put the system in place i need a Mechanic type. And guess what? the best affiliate marketers are the Mechanic personality type. So both Creator and Mechanic need each other.

I've been working on perseverance a lot lately.

I now keep a notepad of what I've accomplished each day.

If I wash clothes, I write it down.
If I record a new video for a course of mine, I write it down.
If I schedule a tweet, I write it down.
If I post on the Warrior Forum, I...hope you get the point.

Something I need to work on is expanding my comfort zone. I wish it weren't so comfortable, but not everything in life can be convenient.

Believing others was my mistake. I've been "beat down" into believing success was unattainable. My ex wife, my superiors at work, the financial crisis etc. I was beginning to doubt myself. This is exactly a forum like this is so valuable. I am turning things around and loving life again. Everything is a matter of perception!

I wouldn't call it a mental block but it certainly was a bad habit I had when
starting out...

and that is, over-selling...

Just when the deal is about to be done, I would keep talking, I'd keep selling,
and on more than one occasion in the past have talked my way right out of the sale
and right out the door

But I have learned to shut up at the right time and talk about the weather or something, or how cool it is in the office, something, anything...as the deal is been done.

Maybe others have experienced that too. The trick is to stop talking at the right time and don't over sell it, especially when you've already sold it

I wouldn't say I'm a "natural salesman". Over time you learn what works best
and it's still a continuous learning process. What I have found works best for me
is...

Have a somewhat unique and great product or service. (obviously)

Be able to answer any question on your product or service. (always a good idea)

Be yourself.

Be genuine.

Be down-to-earth.

Don't try to come off as a "high-and-mighty" know it all. (Will be met with resistance)

Listen carefully.

Don't argue with what they believe. (You won't win, it'll be a no sale, even if they know there should be, there won't be)

Ask questions about their business.

Try to connect or relate their answers with your product or service.
and of course, stop selling! when they are sold on the idea.

3) Consistency - - yes, a critical element in success.
I probably over-plan but I check things off my list and
it feels good.

Maybe make a short list each day of "must do" items.
Keep it short and simple to start. Do your least favorite
things first. Then, you can gradually make the list
larger and more complex. Gradually.

8) Criticism - - a tuff one. I always say that I don't
care what others think but it is not true. I do care
but I try not to let it influence the actions that I
need to take for my business.

Perhaps focus is a problem for everyone.

The Internet is one big distraction but not the only
one. How about cell phones, texting, TV, golf,
sports in general, useless social engagements, etc.

Focus or lack thereof, a definite issue.

I personally had these issues too.

I have overcome most of them...took me a long time.

The biggest one was a kind of inferiority complex. poor self belief.

Here are some things i did and now do.

1. For fear of failure....find a business model that is proven to work and get it to work (even if it takes a while). For me it's building a list and making offers. Work with a coach or mentor.

2. Distractions- off the internet when you work on your laptop or go away from the distraction

3. Perfection... no product or project is perfect...launch now improve later.( this comment likely has errors and all) who cares? not me.

4. Have specific goals . Daily and monthly (action and time frame) My goal is to launch 52 products in 2015. 1 a week.

5. Have a to do list focused on your goals

6. For procrastination - Just start ...even as simple as writing the name of a product etc.

7. Surround yourself with productive people (you can find some groups on FB)

8. Work on your self belief (read and listen to self help stuff)

I am working on a WSO for this.

I struggled with all these problems for a long time...so hopefully i can help some people out.

If you don't already - - - make a "to do" list. When I have
my list, I accomplish much. With no list, I do little.

I even have a list when on vacation. I admit that this may
be a little over the top. But without a list, I fee like a space-
cadet.

Anyhow, we all have a multitude of distractions available
to us at any time.

Me too! It is hard to stick to just one thing.

But I have the thought that while we do need to
focus,we also need multiple sources of income.
Ya' never know when a source might dry up.

Things change at the speed of light on the net.
Of course some basic principles always apply
but it doesn't hurt to have several branches on
our internet tree. My opinion...........

I don't think that is a bad quality. I should be more
of a perfectionist.

But, I suppose anything can be taken to extremes.

Maybe you need to partner with someone who is not
a perfectionist and you can balance each other?

My biggest mental block would be my AD(H)D..

Having a overactive brain makes it hard to focus on things, and therefor everything takes a little bit longer because it has to be perfect, 101% perfect and then still i am not happy with it and mostly ending up dumping the idea/project and try to focus on the other 100 great ideas that already filled my head!!

As a newbie it's for me hard to put everything in the right order, sounds maybe stupid but i know exacly how thing should go, but bringing it in action is a big issue!

I believe that being a perfectionist is an excellent quality.

Maybe you just need to temper it a bit. Do a good job and
perfect it as you go along. Maybe stick to 2 or 3 things at
a time. I could say just do 1 but I have a hard time sticking
to just 1!

My biggest mental block is simply... MYSELF.

Sounds cheesy? Maybe. But when I really think about it, all the times in my life when I was scared or couldn't get something done, it all boiled down to the one thing that held me back, which was MYSELF. Sure I may have lacked a few skills but it wasn't those things that held me back, it was the doubt that I had in MYSELF to get whatever it was I was working on at the time done.

This is not only for working online but can also hit us in other aspects of life such as in school, relationships, work etc. I think WE are the biggest "blocks" in our own lives and once we can get past our limiting beliefs, good things can happen.
