14 minute life changing exercise, do you have the time?

Try this. It might be of help to you. It will take 14 mins.

First five, go to youtube, search for Michael Jackson, Man in the Mirror with lyrics.

Watch it, sing along if so inclined. Takes 5:30

Then, go to bathroom mirror, set the timer on your cell for 4 mins. Stare at what you see in the mirror and ask these questions, over and over in different ways:

What do you really want? What are you doing today to get what you want?
What do you want?
What is going to make you happy?
What do you think you need to do to make this want happen?
What are you doing to get what you want?
Why do you want that?

Keep this mantra up for the four mins. LOOK at yourself, and keep asking about wants, needs, plans, desires.

When the 4 mins are up, go grab a pen and a notebook.

Write:

What I want is ___________________________ ?

What I will do to get what I want is _____________________ ?

During my day I will be aware of the time I'm spending/wasting on this want.

IF at the end of 14 minutes, you are unable to clearly define what you want, now, at least you have a starting point.

BECAUSE, all the motivation and inspiration in the world isn't going to help you get what you want...if you don't have a clear idea of what that is.

Take FREEDOM, a word bandied about here quite often. But what does it mean to YOU?

Some of us, don't own alarm clocks, and have no desire to get up at 5 to begin my day of freedom, to me, freedom is doing what you want when you want...if a job, businesses or career prevents you from doing that, then you have a different definition.

This exercise will help you to actually give some thought to what you want, why you want it and in going through it, may give you ideas on what you need to do to make it happen.

ONCE you have a clearly defined want, then put a time limit on it, and work your way backwards from that moment in your future to today, and a step by step personalized plan will appear, one which you can follow and adjust and march confidently in the direction of your goals.

PS. If you know what you want, then are you doing everything everyday you can to take you there?

If I were younger I would dismiss posts like this. But after reflecting on my most unproductive years, it was because I did not identify my major goal. Each day I just did what I had to do that day as required by the business I worked for, or what my family required of me. Anyway, no use regretting the past.

Moving forward, I want to live more purposefully and as you advised, "Identify what you want... then work your way backwards from that moment in your future to today, and a step by step personalized plan will appear, one which you can follow and adjust and march confidently in the direction of your goals."

Another helpful question to help us pinpoint what we really want, "When you’re 85-90 years old looking back, what do you want to have achieved or contributed to the world based on the skills, talents, abilities you have developed, or are passionate about developing.
