"I Tried That" Delusion

I've heard "I tried that and it doesn't work" many times. It's usually from people who really mean "I made one attempt, did everything wrong, and got no result".

So there is a lot of truth in not stopping after one attempt.

The problem is that people read these posts and think that if they just keep doing the same thing over and over again, eventually it will get results.

The people that got results after 1,000 attempts...got results because they didn't do exactly the same thing every time.

If you think of every attempt as a "swing of the bat" in baseball....the reason you finally get a hit is because you get better at swinging at the pitches... not because of the repetition.

If you never adjust your grip, change the swing, time the throw...better than you did before...you'll never get a hit.

Being doggedly persistent has its rewards, but if your just keep doing the exact same thing over and over...hoping for a different result...that's idiotic.

honestly .. a lot of times or a good chunk of those "tries" are done to fail .. because people have no intention of actually doing it .. but don't want to explaine why they don't want to.. so it is easier to try fail and.. be done with it ..

I tried it it failed no leave me alone about it so i can do the stuff i want to do ..

or i knew i couldn't do it.. but had to try to make everyone else happy ..

if it is part of the process of improving..it is a test ..not a try ..

A typical example of "I tried that" delusion is in advertising. I was giving a seminar to a room of advertising reps, and one of them told me that the reason they ask for a 12 month commitment is that "it takes running an ad at least 7 times before they start to work".

I said "No. The first ad will always outperform every following ad, if they are the same. That's why advertisers don't run the same ads forever. The reason you want a 12 month (or 12 insertion) contract is that now you have 12 chances to make their ads work for them. If the first one bombs, you can try something else....you get 12 chances at bat".

I made the huge mistake of thinking that because they were ad reps, they knew something about advertising. Nope. I told them that the biggest secret to selling ads is knowing how to create ads that bring in buyers...and then repeat sales will be effortless.


They looked at me like I was from Mars.

In my years of selling my marketing courses from the stage, that was one of only two times I left with no sales at all.

Though the general principle rings true, I wouldn't press it by using solo ads as an example.

Where solo ads are concerned, I would advise anyone to avoid pumping money into solo ads from 'solo ad vendors' at all costs, especially hundreds of Dollars if results aren't evident.

This opinion is based upon the fact that solo Ad selling is one of the most prominent channels of syndicate scamming in 'Internet Marketing' today and the game will be up for many when legislation are inevitably laid down.

Though I've said this before, and many time previous to that, I feel that this cannot be emphasized enough.

'Solo ads' which work are those that are broadcasts executed by those people or organizations who have spent time (and no doubt money), acquiring genuine, valuable prospects and customers who have also agreed to accept information from associated partners.

Effective solo ads derive from analyzing a niche and establishing such partnerships and potential of general loss is greatly minimized by effective and sensible business strategies - not simple repetition. This involves sensible testing, (largely avoiding figurative shots in the dark).... and adjusting.

I trust that the telepathic Buddha will guide us.

I want to submit my own case study while using the Cosmic Master programs. I know this testament will serve as an affirmation as to why these programs work, straight out of the gate. Which in the irony of that makes it so much better for those who have the patience to learn on how to deliver those today needs best.

Phew, l appreciate your candidness, and l have done similar things, but it is a bit like going to an Anthony Robbins seminar, all fired up but it doen't last. Especially when bad luck enters your life.

Phew, l was looking for the affiliate link, but thankfully l didn't find one.

Yes, also did something similar, with a hand painted glass business and Ceramics.

Programmed my subconscious, goals, etc to come up with the best hand painted glass design possible, and had 12 of those in one shop, as well as the best l could do consciously.

The Subconscious ones sold out, and the conscious one, didn't.

Also tried this with Ceramics, but it was very labour intensive and bombed.

Then that setback and others led me to go online and ditch Ceramics, (passionate about ceramics, but there is little money in it).

You can be as positive as you want, and will still get clobbered before you are on the right path, (even then corrections will still occur).

Cosmic Master, l am probably in the ballpark, but won't do a song and dance about it.

He's an autonomous man, doesn't need any of us.

people who always say "I already know that" or something like "I've tried that, it won't work" when it comes to marketing are those who don't usually generate results. Even on a manual, you need to read it twice or thrice to learn what you didn't understand at first.
