The Villain - The Ultimate Guide To Motivation

Motivation is key.

The problem is, it's not always there when you need it. Some days you wake up pumped and ready for the world and some days you don't.

Without motivation you won't make progress in the gym.

Without motivation you won't grow your business.

Without motivation you won't get too far with any worthwhile dream in this life.

To make any dream a reality you must learn the art of getting things done without needing motivation. The art of DOING THE WORK.

How does one achieve this?

We are competitive creatures. We like to win. We like to come out on top and this is the first step to getting things done without needing to be motivated.

What Makes a Movie Great?

Every movie has a few elements that make it a movie. They have a Hero and Villain with stuff in between that builds up to an epic fight.

The hero has to save the day.

In our daily lives we have the hero and the villain the hero wants to do the right thing, but the villain stops them from doing it. Your Hero is Motivation and your Villain is procrastination.

These two will guide your life and determine whether you will be successful or not.

To be honest when you think about it life is simple if you want to be successful do the opposite of what you're doing now.

If you want the fit body stop eating the wrong food and start getting some exercise. If you want more money, figure out what you are wasting money on right now and find out how to make more.

We have to be the hero in our story.

The Ultimate Villain

In order for you to be motivated without motivation you need a villain. We all want to be the Hero in our stories, but in order to be the hero we need to beat the villain.

So who is the villain? The better YOU

Right now I want you to take a moment and close your eyes and see the best version of you. The well dresses, fit and making the most money version of you. The one who takes action, speaks up and goes for their goals.

Sit right now and see that person in your mind's eyes.

Now I want you to see yourself right now next to that person. Now look at your villain and see them mocking you because you can't be like them. Feel the shame of the better you on the other side.

Now I want you to feel a little rage because that person stunting on you.

Now capture this person in your minds eye and as you do this write down a list of things this person does that you don't which make them into the great person they are.

Really create this list. Write down as much things as you can think about.

Becoming a Machine

When you've completed the list I want you do something simple.

Start doing what's on the list.

Everyday you're going to wake up and compete with the best version of you. You are going to get mad with them and do whatever it takes to beat them everyday.

This is what I do. I wake up at 5am to workout because the better version of me has already done his workout and is laughing at me.

I keep pushing in my business because the better version of me is pushing harder and making more each and everyday. I have to beat him I can't let them beat me.

I keep competing with them because I know I can be better.

What this does is it helps to motivate you without needing to be motivated all the time. Day by day you'll find yourself taking more action daily trying to beat the better version of you.

By doing this you avoid being mean to other people because the person you're trying to beat is you.

Focus on beating YOU. Dig into this and the feeling of inadequacy because the better you is doing better.

Once you do you'll step your game and your business up.

About 3 months ago my better future self developed a taste for suit from the designer that make suit a for James Bond movies that are like 5,000 dollars per suit and high end really comfortable shoes dinners of Alaskan king crab or Japanese wagu and travel via chartered private jet

That better version of myself just has super high standards compared to the current self and doesn't believe you get what you deserve but what you settle for. So forget setting goals set higher personal standards.

Motivation is not for people building success it great for the slaves servants and paid labor. You need motivation to do things you really do not want to do.

It works for short term operations but not over the long term

Once you keep focus on the person you are trying to be and you keep that fuel burning you will keep pushing. This is something I've been doing for the past few months and it's been helping me to reach my goals one after the other.

This is much better than your longer post

Of course if you have a good idea how you want to be in the future it makes it much easier to set the short term goal to hit that get you moving in the direction of the future you

But as you learn new things and improve your life new future possibilities come into view that you could not see from the former self

How about just BEING that person now, in the present? You know, your best self and all? Why duel with fake you from the future?

Just BE. And if that isn't enough, ask why?

It's an interesting post oppyyeauome. Thanks for sharing it.

I have to say, however, personally the "better me" isn't any kind of "villain" whatsoever ... Actually, I like to think of my "Higher Self" (etc.) as being something of a "Hero" that I can keep actualizing. That said, different approaches work for different People, so thanks again for your post.

    PS:
On the topic of Motivation -- I know I have said it before -- however I think the Reason Why People are being Marketers and Entrepreneurs (etc.) makes a massive, massive difference. If People are passionate enough -- almost anything is possible. : )

This is a difference of opinion or a refinement of the reason why

If the reason why is they have no other options but to do marketing and be good at it or they have no real options but to build a business to improve their income levels or be able to do the work they want to do.

To when the reason why is this is the only option I might as well put the work in to be the best and apply passion to the work.

      Again my view

I just woke up with possibly a new point about the problem with a reason why . Conflicting motives.

After some coffee I will attempt to explain

But most do not seem to have a real reason why they have a common list that promoters of biz opp. Self help and spiritual growth.

Tell the "here is why you should "

To get all my reasons why to align . I need a solar powered live aboard trimaran 50-55 feet in length but currently it would cost around 2 million to get built.or more.

That will give my the home that runs of renewable power. And the ability to travel and live in my preferred climate.

          Ok I need coffee.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean Odahh -- think I need some coffee : P Seriously though. I can see where People having conflicting motives could be something of a "problem". For me, personally, it's to empower and inspire People, however it could be anything -- even making money/income -- providing that it's something that really motivates them.

            2C.

I know what motivates me but the fact it takes sustained effort over time . And I never look all the motivated to other people.

If I'm going no where at the moment I will put a little effort into stay in one place as possible. There are a lot of normal people who expend large amounts of energy in a motivated fashion and stay in the same place for years. And many actually fall behind.

Sure. Good point. However, that certainly doesn't mean that having a lot of energy and motivation is bad thing or doesn't work. The People you mentioned simply weren't determined enough to keep going

The only fault people have is they realize the system is rigged against them to late.

It rigged so the rich you can make other people the richer you have the potential to get.

  • Steven Pressfield in his book, 'The War of Art' claims that resistance is always there. And we all have to overcome this resistance every time we sit down to do important work.

Here's the reality: It's much easier to do the things your brain wants to do, than it is to force your brain to do the things it doesn't want to do. The latter requires that you have to overcome yourself - in order to do the things you yourself claim you want to do.

Just think about that for a second.

So which is the better approach...

    1. Figuring out how to want to do the thing? (no resistance)

    2. Figuring out how to want to be disciplined enough to do the thing? (constant resistance)

Think of the mental energy that goes into working against your brains natural tendencies? It must be exhausting for your poor brain. It not only has to be forced into focusing on something it doesn't want to do, but it also has to do the the thing it doesn't want to do.

    No wonder there's constant resistance.

And then what happens when you hit obstacles whilst doing that thing? Do you think your brain is actively looking to solve it, or is it more likely looking for the bloody door... because let's be honest, it didn't want to be there in the first place, did it?

Think of how difficult it is to exercise when you are in a relationship. Much easier when you are single and looking for a partner. Where's the resistance coming from? The exercise, or the 'reasons' for exercising?

It's not rocket science, is it? If you are constantly struggling to do the work, then you have to figure out why your brain doesn't want to do it. Spend more time on that, and less time on the motivation and discipline and productivity and tools and whatever else.

Those external things do nothing more than put a band aid over the problem that you are ignoring; the only problem needing to be solved, which is to figure out why your brain doesn't want to do the work in the first place.

Why do you think vision boards work for many people? Do you think it has anything to do with the universe bending to suit your will? Of course not. Vision boards work because they are a constant reminder to your brain of why you are doing what you are doing.

It's all information in the brain. If you are struggling to work, then you need to change the information in your brain, or at least reframe the meaning of it. Start there.

Will you still face resistance from time to time? Yes, you will, but that has more to do with your sleep, eating and how your environment makes you feel.

Oh, and that's one more extremely important thing... How you feel is far more important than what you think. You never have bad thoughts when you are in a good mood. But you have to struggle so hard to change your thoughts when you are in a bad mood <=== Pull on that thread

You make good points I am biased an singular in focus. I find the problem is that no one thinks to stress motivation from doing the work that causes more motivation to do the work.

It's easy to miss because it is as normal as breathing to people who build success. And completely out of the realm of potentials for those who think the reason they are getting paid is because that is the only way they would do the work

But I'm crazy and might just be seeing things
