Doors, windows, opportunities in general. In many instances, the closing of the opportunity is self created, and a lot of that time, we are just not suited to the task.

So, there may be a lack of learning...and the lesson gets repeated, and we see here at WF, doors have been slammed shut on many Warriors for years, and they keep opening new ones (aka shiny objects, greener pastures, faster results, etc., etc.).

Once in awhile, the closed door is not due to our own activities, then one must move on, what else are they going to do?

Opportunity seekers ALWAYS have another door to open.

It's something you tell children when they don't get what they want. Then it moves to beggers can't be choosers.or take what you can get.

No. I think that's almost universally nonsense.

What is closer to reality is that there are nearly unlimited doors you can go through, and one closed door doesn't matter all that much....unless you believe that it was the only door that will ever exist.

Many of these cute pithy sayings are said to make us feel better about ourselves. And are said by people that haven't thought them through.

For example, "If at first you don't succeed, try try again"..

Sure, try again. But don't keep trying the same thing, because you know that idea failed.

In selling, something I heard all the time was "Every "No" gets you closer to a "Yes".

It's only true when selling items that are impulse for a dollar.

When selling anything of value, every "No" just gets you closer to the next "No"....because you are asking the wrong questions, and what you are doing causes people to say "No" to you.

The problem with humans is that we see a door close, and we then sit down and blame that door closing for your troubles. And we just stop trying to open any more doors.

This thread actually got me to consider that I'd always thought I was lucky, because if I had a real need for a result, I generally got it. But it wasn't luck. I just kept trying different doors, until I got one to open.

Nowadays, I just lay on the couch and ask my wife "Honey, does that door look open to you? Could you get it? The cat is sleeping on my lap".

Well let me shamelessly generalize at the risk of catching a bit of flack over it.

You start with a clear result then do things with the intent of getting that result.

For way too many things in life humans string together things that others say they did to get result. Or even worse. Stuff they saw people in movies or other media do.

Then they kinda do something like that they believe. While hoping to get some positive results.

Structured process verse stumbling around with a blind fold on whacking at the success pinatas. Generally the door to rooms get closed on people when they throw a fit Storm out of the room then are not allowed back in.

There are several ways to carry this analogy further;

There was never a door, just a wall.

The door closed, but that doesn't mean you can't open it again.

The door wasn't really closed, it just looked closed from the angle you were looking.

There were always plenty of open doors, you just didn't notice them until that first door closed.

There are no doors, just open hallways. The doors are imaginary.

Many of us just wait for someone else to open the door.

A door closes, and we are just too damn lazy to turn the knob to open it again.

Just because a door is open, doesn't mean you should walk through it.

If the door closes, and it's someone else's house, don't look for another door. Look for a different house.

I'm not joking. This happened at the first dinner I had at my wife's parent's home...meeting the rest of the family.

Her sister asked me what I did for a living. I told her I sold high end vacuum cleaners in people's homes.

She asked "Do you go door to door?"

I said "Yes. I used to go window to window....but I got arrested".

She said " I would never let you in my home"

I said "Well, now I know how to plan our family vacations".

Darn it! You are right. Metaphor is the correct word.

When I was at the family dinner, it was the first time I ever met her parents, brothers, and sisters.

It wasn't that the sister took me seriously. It's that she didn't like me.

She was the Alpha leader of the family, and she didn't think I was funny.

But I'll give you a little insight into my psychopathic brain...

I wasn't interested in impressing the family. I wasn't on any different behavior than any other time. My whole goal wasn't to make them like me, but to find out which ones I liked.

I said a slightly risque joke to the family (a very religious, moral, kind, wonderful family). I wasn't anything off color, but it had a sexual subtext. It was a really good joke (The only one my wife made me promise never to tell to strangers).

I said the joke at the diner table. About 12 people sat there in silence. After a few seconds, her older brother started laughing....and he couldn't stop laughing for over a minute.

I knew I had found my friend. And over the years, the whole family (Minus the alpha sister) and I get along just fine.

We got married a few months later, because she wouldn't go to a convention in Las Vegas with me...unless we were married.

Anyway, I am glad you got past the sister, because your
wife could have easily stayed under her wing, and married
someone that the sister approved of. So it's nice that it all
worked out for you and you have had a great life together.

I know from my own experience how awkward it is when
you don't get along with certain family members. I bend
over backwards to accommodate people, but I will only
do it once or twice, after that they can just KMA, I don't
care who it is.

I love those things!

I own a different brand of water filtration vacuum because
wet dust can't fly and it's so much nicer and cleaner to
deal with rather than a regular filter.

I actually prefer to use the shampooer but sometimes
it's not practical.

The world we live in your self awareness and personal priorities should dictate what doors you go through when they are open and knock on when they are closed.

A lot of doors may be open but you have no interest in what is on the other side of the door once you get inside.

I agree with that point. We should always be positive. Closing one door doesn't mean all the doors of opportunity have been closed. It always means you have to work harder for your goals, work so hard that you can reach the best door of opportunity.

yes i do i find if its about online business its about the shiny object syndrome, many give up because they say a better opportunity, all i have to do is one button software, but it never works, its all about giving value and its about learning new skills and not giving up, its about hard work, and also buildng relationships with your customers and even finding solutions by outsourcing work who have the skills u dont have

This phrase is just one that encourages those that lost an opportunity and feels disappointed. It help them revive an optimistic feeling but we all should know being optimistic ain't enough. We shouldn't put our eggs in one basket and hope things falls in place.
Life's so unpredictable, so rather than gambling with a single door, work with the possibility that there are several doors and one door shutting wouldn't distort your energy, it'll keep one mile away from disappointment.

I agree with you.

If there is anything that identifies someone as mediocre. It's the stubborn Way they will only go into an open door if what's inside looks almost exactly like the room they are exiting by force or choice. Then the only reason they are chose to look for a new door. The room they are in is getting redecorated by someone else .

Personally I think the number of actually mediocre people is rapidly in decline and the main problem now is people kind of think they know what they want in another room . But there are so many doors open and more guilt about staying in the same room instead of jumping to a new room to see what is there.

Of course we are only a few years into this.

Yeah but that happened in the 1930s during the depression then 40 years later in the late 70's early 80's oil shock and high inflation. 40 years later what ever the reason this time. The cycle just repeats . All the technology advances will combine . Create a new standard of living for people to aspire to.

Actually it less aspiration based. More and more based in personal desires and taste. As the advances in technology allow for endless levels of customization. Available to even poor people.

I'm sorry about that. I wasn't trying to argue with you or anyone else. Which is probably why it didn't make sense.

My view is right now yes it's hard for many to achieve and maintain that mediocre room. With all the technology advances. People will easily create a lifestyle that suits their taste. No matter what room they are in.

Not everyone wants more more or bigger bigger.

The real hard part is trying to explain why a lot of these traditional ideas don't work anymore . Or don't actually mean anything in today's reality. Especially since the lockdowns around the world a few years ago.

It doesn't opens you just keep finding that another one so you can keep things going but sometimes you fail to find that another door , sometimes it takes time to find that another door but its human nature to say things like these and keep moving on.
