Looking for some advice

Hello,

After doing some soul searching and trying to figure where I really need to go with this, I am not sure where my niche is in this crazy im world, I am not looking to get rich off the bat, I know everything requires work, i have an excellant work ethic, I work 2 jobs first a drafter and second at a grocery store here in texas as well as studying digital communication at school, like web publishing and graphic design, right now I been messing with adobe illustrator, I need help in figuring what to do really or where to head, I wouldn't mind me the jack of all trades but I don't see that quite happening that quick or maybe that might happen down the road, any advice what to do and where to go. Thanks.

    Hello neo3006
Couple of years ago i started with this im business. It was something like a hobby for me. My first experiance was with adsense. I remember know like it was yesterday, that i was so happy with my first google check, and it was something like a 104.94. After that i was so inspired and i told to myself ok it will be your future job
After my studies i was continued with this job and i can say, now i;m happy internet marketer

yes, dont try and be the jack of all trades at first. Why dont you look at a WSO or keep searching the War Room and you will get many different options, then settle on onw and use your work ethic and passion to achieve your goals.

You seem like you have the ethic to get ahead in the IM jungle

you indicated you don't know what your niche is... why not start with something you are familiar with, there's always profits to be made even in the most unlikely areas

        Neo,

I'm just talking off the cuff here, but perhaps you might consider:

Making a legit, full blown review site for various CAD programs and/or photoshop itself. Besides reviews, you might offer some text, video, or podcast downloadable tutorials for people who are looking to get into the CAD world or photoshop world.

These are the very same folks who would likely be ready to make the purchase at some point..barring their using torrents, warez, etc...but you see my point.

Dig in google and check out all the CAD programs out there, and among them which ones offer an affiliate program? From this you can prepare a few tutorials for those programs, if you have them, or simply use their free trial (if available) to make the tutorials using Camtasia, Jing or whatever you'd like.

Your site can also turn into a bit of a hub for related software as well...the same audience might be into some web design work, dreamweaver, fireworks, and whatever relates to CAD stuff.

You can absolutely do it. If you truly like CAD type applications, and wouldnt mind making some helpful tutorials, then you have found the way.

Jeremy Palmer says it best in his videos about how to go about a site like this I believe the course is called "Black ink 2" might be worth a look.

I too am a CAD head...Autocad mainly. Autocad changes so often, it might be a good idea to do tutorials of the highpoints of what changed from year to year. Everyone I know hates upgrading at first, due to all the odd menus, icons, and "bugs". People seem to just finally "stumble" onto the new commands because no one really has the time in daily office life to sit down and play with it. Deadlines, schedules, clients making changes last minute all lead to little time to research the new software. I know people who are using 2006 versions and won't upgrade because they know they won't use the new version upgrades anyway. They simply don't have time to learn it. Consequently, transfer of files from clients or other subs requires them to ask for people to "save as" to an earlier version. Very time consuming and frustrating to the people on whom you are communicating with.

    Neo,
You've got a lot of good advice on here. Gross100 and globalim are right on the money. Starting something with what you already do is a great idea. I'm in the construction business where I also do my own CAD work. The tutorial idea that gross100 mentioned is a great idea. I'm not sure which CAD program you work with but if it's Autocad you could probably get a lot of customers or at the very least get a nice email list going with something like "7 easy steps to learning Autocad" or something.

There is a lot of competition out there so finding a niche in the CAD market that sets you apart from the others out there would be something I would check into. Another thing is hobbies, if you have any (which I'm sure you do) you can market small reports on those as well. Let your brain go crazy with ideas, write them down and if it's something you love you will do well.

I am still learning the web publishing and the graphic design of things, I have taken photoshop, taking illustrator right now and taking in design next semester and probably dreamweaver since I think that would be useful in things but as you guys previously mentioned maybe I can find me something in the cad market and see what I can do from there, I been using cad for now like 15 years practically and know some microstation, we will see what happens. Thanks for the great advice

    • Neo3006: First, let me tell you this: you're doing fine. I believe you dont search for what you're looking for.You let it come to. Live everyday for each will tell you where you should belong.

I believe in destiny, but I also believe in taking actions. This doesn't mean counting on stars. It is that if you are committed to living your life, to reach your potential, every event and all circumstances will be in your favor.

What I've come to believe is that if we begin small and just focus on one step at a time our personal niche will become apparent to us.

I try to make niche markets out of my passions...if you go after something you like or love to do and make it into something profitable you will more than likely stick with it and not get bored talking about it.

My advise would be just to stay focused on one thing and push it to the limits. You can always go into another niche in the future when the first is maxxed out.

There are some things in the IM world that can get you overwhelmed. What I can say is learn a little each day and make your own online strategy to achieve your goals and success in IM.

Tips given in this thread are great help already so I would just give encouragement.

      Good luck!

If you intend to make a living in IM then treat it like a proper career. Have an entrepreneurial approach not an opportunistic approach. The former builds businesses the latter buys the next shiny object (the one where you make millions whilst sipping G & T on the beach)

You have to have a plan with an end goal in mind otherwise you will not focus your efforts in the right direction and as such your results will be diluted which breeds frustration and leads to some people never achieving much and eventually quitting.

Good news is it is possible to make a living online. My background was in construction but no more :0)

May I offer a simple guide?

        1. Say out loud " I want to make my living online" 5 times-
        2. Decide what will it be. Affiliate marketing, blogging, building websites for sale?
        3. Get a good keyword analyzer (I highly recommend Market Samurai)
        4. Explore various niches of your interest, choose those with low competition.
        5. Stay consistent and focused, don't work on multiple projects at once.

Or, just follow the 30 Day Challenge as I do and you will get proper information instead of my pathetic attempt to summarize what I've learned so far ^^

All IM paths involve a lot of boring grunt work. It is almost a universal principle that highly successful people love what they do. Therefore, pick an IM path that gives you the feeling that you can't wait to get out of bed to do the work, not the path that seems the most monetarily exciting.

This is what will give you the persistence to reach your goals.

Take your time and do your research. You Passion will always be your best pick by far. I see that you are into graphic design. Maybe you can create a site offering services for webmasters with Google adsense for extra profits. Research is key and of course, the proper skillset.
