Any successful person will tell you that to be successful you need the help of others. Some of the best tips come from people completely unrelated to what you do. Sometimes its easy to go about your online business solo, but this isn't normally healthy for growing a long and sustainable business.

Do you get help from others?

How?

Are you involved in mastermind groups?

Do you go to conferences?

Do you belong to clubs and professional organizations?

I do...do you?

The first several months of my IM journey, I worked completely by myself, and didn't really make use of the forum to bounce ideas off of till last May or so. It was lonely, and I couldn't stand it.

As far as work itself is concerned, I'm still largely solo, but I'm learning to be more interactive. Doing so has served me well...

Often through products and services. I don't actually know how to go about making friends and contacts.

I've been to a workshop and a been going to a local meet up by fellow warrior Randy Smith which I find quite informative and fun.

You do learn a great deal when networking and it gives an awesome feeling when you can contribute too.

I just wish there was more IM related networking near where I am.

Is there any online mastermind thingy going on? Warriors that are not so mobile or where networking is not so accessible they could join via skype or something

Thanks for the post Kenster. Do you wanna tell us about what kind of groups are you part of?

    Maddi.

I owe a lot of my success to actually going out and meeting people. There's a wonderful website called meetup.com. I think it's $8 for a membership and you can find meetings in your neighborhood for just about any topic out there. Not sure on the extent of the website, if it's United States only, or worldwide.

Are you an underwater basket weaver? There's a group for you. I don't know if it's for real, but I do see a group on meetup for Underwater Basket Weaving.

Before joining this forum, I basically worked alone. It's quiet at home, which makes focusing much easier. I'm basically an introvert who has finally found a routine that works for me. But I love visiting and participating in this forum and have learned so much from it! It's a lot of fun.

I think the life of the marketer is often long periods working by yourself, but the life style also allows you to pick times to catch up with family and friends. Being at home, if you have children it allows you to have much more time than if you were going into a work place. I think you can have the best of both worlds - by yourself or socializing.

I'm still largely solo, but I'm thinking about changing this habit of being a lurker staying apart of the community. I do feel the need to help and share with others.

Most of my modest success online is attributed to people who have shared their experience and genuinely helped others to succeed. I think it's time for me to move on and help others as well.

Also, success in any type of business demands that you build relationships, which are going to be the foundations of the growth of your business. So it's important to be involved in your industry.

Very good. I think if you look hard enough there are plenty of local masterminds, conferences, etc that you can go to meet people and learn.

In fact, I got something in the mail for a "seminar" some company is holding to teach people about internet marketing. Its no doubt a sales pitch and extremely basic stuff, but who knows. Maybe I will learn something. Maybe I will meet another experienced marketer and we can laugh together about how pathetic the seminar is. Or maybe it will turn out to be great. The point is you dont know unless you go out and try things. Hey, maybe I will learn something about how to hold seminars or how not to hold them. Plus, they are giving free lunch and I am a huge sucker for free stuff!

you never know where that next gem of informatoin will come from

    Hey all,

Ive just moved to Vancouver, CA from scotland in the summer of '09. I have no problem meeting new people, but couldnt find anything local to do with IM, so have been solo so far.

In the last couple of days I came across meetup.com as davidjames (the soccer goal keeper?) said earlier. I didnt have to pay anything to join.

Turns out theyve got plenty of interesting groups and a 202 (tracking) group. This is what I was looking for! There is a meetup soon in Vancouver. I contacted the organiser and its a FREE meetup, sponsered by neverblue (one of the few CPA companies if been knocked back by) who are putting on free appitisers - so im going to eat PLENTY!

Cheers all, have a good 1!

I have what I call "the circle of trust". Some of us have Internet businesses, some do not. All of us are entrepreneurs, trustworthy, ethical, and addicted to making money.

Anyway you slice it there are going to be people who are trying to ride your wave and ask a million questions about what you do. They key is pairing up with people who are at your level and offer input because they are genuinely interested in your business.

I can talk all day and all night with my "business buddies". When you love what you do life exciting and entertaining when you have other people to share it with.

    Good point Nicky,

When you become successful, people are always going to try and ride your wave. Many people will want to take take take because they know you have skills, money, creativity, etc.

Its extremely important to surround yourself around successful and like-minded people. But, remember, just because you make more, have more, know more, doesn't mean you can't also benefit from those other people.

Honestly, not that much help from others. I tend to fly solo due to a very strong independent streak that gave my mother early grey hair.

There aren't any mastermind groups, conferences, or relevant clubs in my area that I know of. I'm hoping to join a female entrepreneur organization next year, but there's an invitation-only membership so I'm not sure.
