Knowledge is Potential Power

Most people falsely believe that "knowledge is power." It is nothing of the sort! Knowledge is only potential power. It becomes power only when, and if, it is organized into definite plans of action, and directed to a definite end.

    Good point minitg.

Knowledge is book smarts and wisdom is street smarts. Do something with what you know because it can't do anything by itself.

Great point. No matter how much we read, we can't become successful without applying the knowledge gained from the texts. Sometimes I wish all books had a footnote after each chapter telling us how to apply the information right away.

An instance of reading too much but doing too little appears strongly in the blogosphere (I think I just typed that word for the first time). If we look at websites like Problogger.net, we know that there are millions of people out there consistently studying how blog better, and I'm sure most of them aren't doing it just to entertain themselves. Most of the subscribers that have been following the posts are undoubtedly experts themselves--but only on a theoretical level. They have enough knowledge for success, but they are doing little to achieve that success.

It's natural to think that "if I read one more post, I will be so much wiser and closer to succeeding." But in reality, it's often this addiction that hinders success from going viral--the addiction of reading one more post or book on the topic. People need to detach in order to get results. You can always go back and study more, but success won't come to you unless you start applying what you've learned.

Simple Tip: After having learned the basics, stop reading and start trying things out. And don't return to your books and guides until you've achieved at least one notable goal. There's so much that can (only) be learned by doing things by yourself (id est, by going the extra mile).

Yes you can have all the knowledge in the world and if you don't do anything with it is worthless.

Agreed. Usable knowledge + purposeful action is what makes the difference.

Knowledge is power when applied. I guess the reason it is assumed that once you get knowledge you will have the intelligence to use it to your advantage

You do not need to be only book smart, you need to be street smart and that is applying the knowledge acquired.
