How much time do you actually spend WORKING?

I?m constantly living under the impression that I?m not dedicating as much time as I should to IM. I work about 4-5 hours daily but I feel it should be more. I have no day job and I am aware of the fact that many people who do work for 4-5 hours in their IM business after coming home.

So I just wanted to ask you guys: how much time do you dedicate to pure IM work every day? I?m only talking here about actual productive work and not browsing IM forums.

Some days II work 10 hours, some days only 2 or nothing. It depends on my mood. I don´t try to work if I feel that will not be productive that day. In average it is about 4 - 5 hours, like you.

When you say work, I think that you need to understand that there are "paid work" and "non paid work" meaning, the paid work as it name it self describes, it is work that you can invoice to somebody, or that you can sell to somebody, the "non paid" work is everything else (administration, phone calls, billing, etc..)

It is very important that you make more "paid work" and less of the "non paid work" the most productive people I know make 4 hours paid work, I should be in 2 everyday, once I made that distinction do you work 4 hours paid work or non paid work? I think that makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE.

I'm only talking about the actual seconds, minutes and hours spent behind the desk grinding hard, writing articles, setting up PPC campaigns, designing landing pages, etc.

I find it hard to dedicate to one task, which is why most likely many of us struggle with working and making money online. There is always so much to be distracted by!

I totally agree that FOCUS is vitally important when sitting down in front of your computer to work on your IM business. It's very, very easy to get distracted surfing the web, visiting forums, Twittering, Facebooking, etc., etc.

We all know the dangers of Information Overload. Often times, if we don't have a specific schedule laid out to accomplish certain tasks we feel we should do that day, we find that several hours (even whole days) pass by without having really accomplished anything in the way of productive work.

I'm just as guilty of this as many of you are. I have to constantly remind myself that IM is a business, not a hobby, and as such I need to treat it like a business. That means planning out in specific detail the night before exactly what I want to accomplish the next day...then sticking to the plan.

This is not an easy thing to do if you're a born procrastinator like me. I'm still working on developing my self discipline to buckle down and take care of business each day. It's one thing to know what you *should* be doing to be productive and quite another to actually follow through with this ideal.

Working for yourself is not easy. You have to be your own taskmaster and supervisor. Nobody is there with you to encourage or motivate you to do what needs to be done. This is exactly why I make it a point to visit this section of the Warrior Forum each morning before I do much of anything else -- to get a little "inspiration" and "motivation" from my fellow Warriors so I am better prepared mentally to buckle down and enthusiastically get some productive work done each day.

        Hope this helps you guys.

As much as I can really. Hours, many hours. I guess it depens on how your are piloting your IM system. In my case, I am a newbie, so there's so much to learn and try. Somedays I can spend 10 hours in a row. Some days just one or two.

I very much wait for the time I have my IM system working on autopilot and can live according to the so much commented "internet life style" because if I keep on working this way for long...my godness, it can be exhausting.

    Best,

    Joseph

I think that the question should not be: "How many hours should I work" but the question should be "how fast do I want to reach my goals".
if you want to increase your profit, revenue, internet real-estate etc...
you can put a time cap on it and this is what dictates your working hours.
In addition, its not fun working 12+ a day if you are not starving for bread… so a good measure of non-business activities also goes into measure.

The way I see it: If your goal is to hit $2K a month net profit and you are doing it with 4-5 hours a day of work, you can rest comfortably knowing that it is ok to spend the rest of the day hanging out with your girlfriend, do some kite-surf, play the guitar etc....

    Seems pretty subjective to me.

I spend the good part of my day working, but another question we should ask is "how much time do you spend leveraging other people's time and having them work for you?" When you use leverage you can spend the same amount of time (or even less amount of time) and get greater results. Instead of performing certain tasks yourself, imagine being able to focus on the most profitable tasks and then having others do other tasks for you.

Does anyone here outsource and have others spend time working for them?

Since the wording seems so important to the spirit of the question, it reminds me of when I interviewed speaker Earnie Larsen for a local magazine. I asked him when he planned to retire. He answered: "If by 'retire' you mean stopping what I'm doing in order to go and do things I really want to do, I will never retire."
And when people ask what it's like working most weekends playing gigs with my band, I tell them, "That's why they call it 'playing,' not 'working.'"

    • I spend as much time as I can stay focus on the day, sometimes more than 5 hours, sometimes just 2. There is 80/20 rule here. The hours you spend on your project doesn't necessarily equal to the amount of result you are getting. Working hours itself are not important. If you think you are spending too much time for what won't bring results, then maybe outsourcing can be an option. I know it doesn't come free but your time can be used for something more important like delivering better values to your clients than setting up a web page.

Very little actually these days. Depending on the
kind of business you're in will determine how
    much you need to work.

If you have a franchise, you'll probably put in 60+
hours a week for a year or two before you can
    scale it back.

Online marketing when done yourself takes me
countless of hours. Most of which goes to waste
because it's not the right actions.

So, after getting my offline system set-up I have
free time to do other things I love and enjoy...
without being shackled to a computer board or
    office.

Are you refering to productive work generating income or are you refering to all the time spent surfing.

For productive time, I work for 3hours a day but total time spent surfing and the like about 10 hours. I dont know which to refer to
