...And I was like,'I have really bought many products, ideas, etc. in the past without actually thinking of the benefits.'

Warriors, how do you avoid buying without REALLY thinking?

    Learn to keep within your budget. If an item is not planned for then don't buy it. Avoid temptation (places where you know you will fall and give in) and when you do go to such places (physically or through the net) don't carry extra money! -

    I think if you're laser-focused on what needs to be done, implementing the marketing to drive traffic to your site, and are truly doing whatever is necessary to build an existing business, impluse buying isn't an option until you get your current business off the ground.

    It's one of my biggest problems. Nowadays I jsut don't entertain the thought of buying a new course/training, because it's only when you allow yourself to look for new shiny objects, is when you get hooked.

    Most of the things that tempt me to buy come in my email from various subscriptions. I keep a folder in my email, "things I want to buy". If I want something, I stick it in that folder. If I remember to get back to it there is a chance I will buy. Very often I forget that I even put something in there. And when I do check that folder I often laugh at myself for falling for some obviously over the top sales letter.

    When I come across something while surfing or like a WSO, I save the webpage as a text file on my desk top and let it sit there. Often I don't even go back and read it. Sometimes I might read it several times over several days before making a decision.

    These techniques really help with controlling the emotional response to the sales letter and ultimately considering what the offer really entails.

      Have a monthly budget for educational products and tools, then spend it only after asking this question "Do I need this right now to accomplish what I'm trying to get done right now?" If the answer is no, I can get my project I'm working on today done without this product or tool then don't get it.

      Also when you do buy something use it immediately and put it right into practice.

    I ask whether I really need it... would it improve anything in my current life.... would it encourage me to do something positive.... or would it take away my time... and how much I can get out of the product before it's rendered useless

      I tend to keep my credit cards away from my immediate vicinity. Similar rules apply for cash. Any bit of extra space between me and doing it is extra time that I may take to think better of it.

      Besides that, though, I have built up the ability to not desire impulse buys over time by focusing on not having the habit in any area of my life. I've worked my way to the point where it is a habit to not consider them without it being passed to conscious thought the majority of the time.

      I would definitely say it is a habit worth learning for sure. It has helped me greatly.

    Well, I'm a TOTAL IMPULSE BUYER. I used to spend more than what my wallet can afford. If my wallet can speak, he'd be crying so loud. What i'm doing now is saved my money on the bank in a time-deposit basis. Withdraw enough money to be budgeted for the week's expenses. It forced me to spend depending on my budget. Will I buy this cool gadget or will I hunger myself for the whole week? Just plain human nature and common sense used.
