NLP - The Default way of Thinking for Effective People

NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) isn't some "thing" like most people think, quite fantastically, it's a way to run your brain.

It's strategies, it's philosophies and it's distinctions specifically geared to maximum human effectiveness. I studied NLP for about 5 months, learning the ins and outs of it and applying what I learned into my life.

It actually changed everything. Learning NLP catalyzed some of the biggest changes in my life. I still think with the precision that NLP taught me to think with, use the philosophies I learned and actively read books on the subject.

I get emails about it all of the time with questions. I'm not a certified NLPer, I just apply it, and I've been known to go crazy and teach people effective components of it that work. I just wrote a free 10 page guide to seriously kicking ass with NLP.

RC!

Heck yea! Personally I like the philosophies or "presuppositions." The techniques are merging into an evolutionary approach to using the machine called "MIND!"

A question... why do hypnotherapists selling hypnosis recordings say that you have to listen to it for at least 21 days to effect the change? Is that really true?

Does it only take 21 days to change your life???

I find NLP to be quite powerful tool and as a matter of fact I'm about to participate to NLP Practitioner training later this year.

So far I have been trying to learn NLP through books, but it has been quite challenging. In that sense I feel that it is perhaps more effective to learn about this by a trainer.

But, NLP has many uses. I can see, that by having a better self-confidence through NLP has many advantages in your everyday life - whether on personal level or running your business.

I am a qualified master practitioner as well. Sounds great on paper but academics are still quite skeptical! However... the very best part for me on that journey was grasping the knowledge that we all have our own world view... our own model of the world. It is all to do with perception. I no longer debate to be right... rather ask questions to understand. Pure relationship bliss ensued.

Could not have said it any better! =)

It really is each persons world-view and their openness to be able to understand new ideas.

If someone says they are a skeptic, that means they simply are not open to it - so its not very likely they will understand how certain things work - be it NLP or hypnosis or anything inbetween.

Absolutely it does! Great reply. I've found (for me) the best way to learn NLP is to apply everything on yourself. Condition your own mind, alter references and take the time to really get in there.

I'm totally aligned with what you said... it's becoming a way to operate your brain effectively! Thanks for replying!

Different people respond differently to hypnosis. The more in tune the hypnosis technique is to you specifically the better it will work.

Let’s say the induction uses a walk along the beach to try to put you into a hypnotic state but you are afraid of water, odds are good that this induction will not work well with you. If you love the mountains then using a walk in the mountains and moving down into a valley would have much better effect with you.

Since hypnosis is working on a subconscious level a lot depends on how much resistance your subconscious will put in the way. If it’s a deep seated belief than it will take time to convince the subconscious to change its beliefs. If it’s only a lightly held belief then the hypnosis will work much faster.

On the other hand if it’s a strong value, like killing is immoral, then hypnosis will not change that deeply held belief.

I believe the 21 day thing is more a marketing ploy than anything. Most CDs come with a 30 day guarantee so if you try them for 21 days and nothing happens then a person MAY return it. But the sad truth is that most people will never make the 21 days. They will listen to it for about a week and then it will lay forgotten.

I’ve just purchased some software to make my own hypnosis CDs so if you PM me on what type of induction you want I’ll put something together for you when I get the software installed and working.

There is much more to it than that if you are interested there are books by Milton Erickson that explain it far better than that.

This is a good question, one that I don't believe there is 1 answer to.

          Human mind = ambiguity

However, if you take Richard Bandler's approach (one of the Co Creators of NLP, probably the best hypnotist in the world) change can happen in 20 minutes.

Yes, neuroscientifically the more you reinforce a habit, the more it strengthens what brain science calls "neural pathways," which are thread like connections branching from neuron to neuron in your brain.

Because hypnosis activates the brain very differently, we learn best when we're relaxed, and we also learn best RAPIDLY, there are some very very effective strategies for rapid habit changing!

Yep, I read one of his books and tried on of the techniques there about falling out of love. It's great. I saw my dream girl in another way.

I'm a certified NLP Trainer (by the Society of NLP - Dr. R. Bandler) and I'd be glad to answer any questions you may have on NLP.

NLP helped me transform my life and has enabled me to help others change their life as well.

I have some thoughts about the mind, brain, and body; I’ll share them a little later. But I sure do agree with you about its power!

I'm a NLP Master Practitioner and can certainly agree with the power of NLP. NLP consists of a large toolbox of best practices and there's always a tool from that toolbox you can use.

Some techniques you can use to motivate yourself towards success (and being more effective) include:
      - anchoring - being able to bring back a feeling of absolute motivation, joy, happiness, or whatever by the push of a button. Search for NLP and anchoring of for "circle of excellence".
      - using submodalities on your goals or to-do list - think of a moment when you were really motivated and try to form a picture of this in your mind. Notice the details of how you picture this. Then picture you working on your to-do list or you having achieved your goal. If the "motivated" picture is brighter or larger, then in your mind try making the picture of your goal or to-do list brighter or larger. This can really help you on your way to your goal or handling the items on your to-do list. There is a lot more you can do with this (more visual finetuning, but also auditory and kinesthetic). Search on Google/YouTube for NLP, goals and submodalities.

I don't have time right now to go into more detail, but you can always search on Google/YouTube/whatever to learn more about this. If you have any questions about what I described, just let me know.

I've attended several Bandler training and I guess I'm under his "spell" he he he...

I've also studied NLP modelling training with Grinder (the othe co-creator of NLP) and their style is worlds apart. I suggest to everyone interested in NLP to have trainings with as many different trainers they can (afford), as every one of them holds a different "piece" of the puzzle.

Yes, I agree with you... Bandler vibrates the attitude of change...
