Well, depending on what you mean by "education." To some, "education" means the time they spent in school. Actually, the word "education" comes from the Latin word educare, which means "to rear." It is related to another Latin word educere "to lead out" or "to bring out."

So, education literally means leading people out of darkness and bringing out the best in them. Unfortunately, most schools do not really educate their students. I attended a school where the teachers seemed to plunge students deeper into the darkness of ignorance by teaching them outdated facts and methods. Worse, they made parrots out of them; my teachers gave the highest grades to those who could memorize all the notes on the handouts they gave. Critical thinking and creativity were never encouraged and were even suppressed. I only hope that the school has changed for the better since I got out of it.

Education, in the real sense of the word, is actually a good thing. Schools are supposed to educate people, but the sad thing is, they don't always do that. Ultimately, we have the responsibility to educate ourselves. We do this by learning from our own experiences. We can also learn from those who have a wealth of experience to share by reading books, surfing the Internet and listening to people who have been to where we want to go.

    Just my two cents.

I agree with you, that at school we are taught some outdated knowledge.
But regarding what you said in what I quote above, it's normal that the most expensive knowledge is coming from our own experience.

Imagine if everything is taught at school. First, school don't have time to teach you everything. Second, it is possible, that human being will be like robot.

Everything is design to be the same like robot or machine.

We don't have to learn from our experience alone. We can learn from other people's experience, too. In fact, when it comes to learning from mistakes, I think it is better for us to learn from other people's mistakes than our own. We don't have to learn the hard way.

You're right. Schools cannot teach us everything we need to know. The education that we get from schools isn't complete, so we need to further educate ourselves.

Not all schools are like the one I mentioned in my last post. I did attend another school where creativity and critical thinking are encouraged. The students have to think for themselves. This school is starkly different from the first one I mentioned. They don't produce graduates who are like robots or parrots, thank goodness!

I agree, cyberdenizen. Most universities only produce graduates that will conform to the program of "The Matrix." Only a few of those graduates will
begin to claim their birthright and choose to empower their destinies.

Education is totally different from learning. Learning is the actual process of discovery while education is the only crap that you need to get a good job. lol

Easy said than done. Problem with most; we are thinking too much trying to get it all perfect. I like the saying "try, improvise, and try again". Make sure that when you fail, you still have a room to get up and try again.
