How I Start My Day

I start my day in appreciation for all that I have. Here is an exercise to practice when you wake up, it will also help if you do this several times per day. Just make a list of things to be grateful for in your life and recite it to yourself. Here is an example:


I am grateful for....
- My life
- Today
- My good looks
- My intelligence
- My strength
- My kids
- My mom
- My grandparents
- My family
- My car
- Having a comfortable place to sleep
- All the food I eat everyday
- All the money I have
- All The travelling I've done
- The sun
- My computers
- The gym

If you like, add your own list of things that you are grateful for in your life.

    Great way to start the day. By being thankful for the many things that you have in your life, it uplifts you and kind of makes it hard to start the day on a negative note!

      I have to agree that starting my day by spending quality quiet time with the Lord in bible study is the best way for me to find the inspiration I need to face the day.
      I commune with the Lord and then listen to His guidance in allowing me to plan the rest of my day to serve His purpose for my life.
      The Lord always takes away my fears and anxieties which used to plague me before I used to start my day by 'asking His opinion and guidance'.

    I wake up early. A good breakfast and even a bit of exercise gets me going.

    No procrastination before work. I find I get much better in the mood if I start working right away, instead of browsing the internet mindlessly even for a moment.

    Being thankful of the things you have definitely sets a good mood.

    Thanks for sharing...

    Mine has changed, it's not as good as what I'd like. It was better. I hope to change it in a matter of days. I've been spending most of my time obsessed with work in recent times.

    I'm with my Netbook most of the day. It's usually what I reach for when I wake up, too !

    I'd like to start with prayer, reading some uplifting literature and then jogging. It's nice others shared how they start their days...

    I suspect it's true that how we begin our day sets the tone for the rest of the day.

      I too wake up and the first thing I do is recite things that I am greatfull for and pray to thank the for blessing me with the abilities I have to be able to take advantage of opportunities, walk, talk, laugh, and love. And one of the biggest things that I am greatful for is being able to live among my family members.

    1. A short meditation of gratitude.
    2. Writing a gratitude journal.
    3. Drinking several glasses of water.
    4. Exercising.
    5. Eating.
    6. Planning my day.

    Being grateful is so important! I spend every night thinking of all the things I am grateful for. I think I may start focusing on them in the morning! It will help me to get my day off on the right foot!

      My current morning routine starts with:
      - thanking the universe for everything I have
      - meditation
      - deep breathing
      - affirmations
      - reading something positive
      - watching something inspirational
      - reviewing my life goals
      - reviewing current day's tasks

      This is something I have been doing for the past month. I developed this routine after I saw a video from Derek Franklin (thank you Derek).

      My earlier morning routine was shorter - thanking the universe, meditation, deep breathing and reviewing current day's tasks. Adding the extra items has made a difference. It keeps me motivated and focused. On days that I don't follow this routine, my mind wanders a lot more. I am yet to completely internalize all the benefits, but I am getting there.

    If I can add that it's also a great idea to rattle off a similar list at the END of the day, even if:

    --You made mistakes
    --You said the wrong things to someone
    --You were impatient with your mom
    --Your boss jerked you around
    --It rained
    --A bird pooped on your shirt
    --You stepped in dog doo
    --Someone cut you off in the traffic
    --Your computer froze
    --The kids were crying
    --You car broke down
    --You stubbed your toe
    --The showers were cold at the gym
    --The cat used the couch as a scratching post
    --Someone scratched the car door in the parking lot
    --You forgot to pay a bill
    --You lost your keys
    --Interest rates went up
    --Gas prices increased

    ...and other normal occurrences in life

    If you're able to continue to be grateful in spite of how things may have been through the course of your day...then you have achieved wealth beyond any amount of money anyone could ever dream of.
