Are You Swimming Upstream?

Internet marketing is hard work. There's no promise of a rainbow and there's no finish line.

As an IM'er, you will ALWAYS be a work in progress, always learning and always swimming against the current.

Always.

But with focus and a solid plan, you'll succeed!

We're a lot like salmon. Our goal is to swim upstream, against the current, rather than follow everyone else who is going with the flow and taking the easy way out, hoping for overnight riches and an easy pay day.
Unfortunately, there's no easy way out.

Those who abandon a solid plan of action for the next shiny promise are destined for an existence of boring repetition online.

Hard work and dedication are your reward for battling the current. You must swim steadfastly upstream, focusing solely on your goals, and not let anything take you from that.

There may be a bear (guru) standing on the river bank, waiting to snatch you up and take you away from your mission, but it's those who are strong and steadfast that elude the bears and ultimately reach their hard-earned destination - online success.

Ignore the shiny programs with false promises.

Unsubscribe from the cookie-cutter emails that kill your focus.

Keep your mind positive and work hard.

And always swim against the current.

Aye, I agree with what you say!

I like the way you liken people that dabble in IM as salmons - they seem like fools to the onlookers. What living thing in the right mind will swim so desperately against the current? Surely their destination can't be worth the effort?

But it is worth the effort. The reward the salmons get - their progeny who will continue their legacy.

And isn't this what we're all doing? We're going against the waves, fighting against the current so that we'll escape the futile rat race of society, escape the clutches of financial commitments and finally give our families and ourselves a better life?

The nay-sayers think what we're doing is stupid only because their minds are closed. They fail to realise that our eventual goal is worth the gargantuan effort that we have put in. Our methods may be unconventional, but we'll prove these doubters if we persevere.

Kudos to you for posting this.

I was nodding my head the whole time I was reading your post. The biggest problem for many is that they give up, sometimes just before they reach their goal, because they get tired of the effort it takes to move forward. IM is hard work and it is easy to reach for the next new thing to come along just because we WANT to believe the promises. If we would stop and think for a moment we would realize the promises are false.

I strongly agree that we do need a solid plan of action! We need to review that plan every single morning before we start our business day, and we need to stay on track so that we can complete the course.

    Thanks for this important reminder!

I think my problem is that I give up or I feel that I need to know everything before I do it. I am learning that I can slowly change my website over to internet marketing and learn the main few points now, so I can start bringing in money and then learn as I go.

I think that going against the stream is counterproductive. I think that I want to flow with the stream because once you know the basics and you actually apply it, then its all going with the stream and easier to do. As you learn more specific and technical things in what you are doing, that is just more helpful in getting to where you need to go.

I think people make things out to be harder than they really are. I know I do that all the time. And I know I am doing it with this, but I have to learn the basics and then work on more advanced things later.

I have been swimming against the current for more than 2 years, and I am getting a bit tired of it all.

I know the story about never giving up and all of that, that is what I do for a living, BUT at some point, you must let reality rear its ugly head and say, when is enough enough?

If you have a solid plan and you don't stick to it, you will probably fail. This is so true.

    As the Chinese say:

Raise your sail one foot and you get ten feet of wind.”

Don't give up, move forward, slowly but still Move Forward.
Set your sail a foot at a time. Move forward.
