Purchasing Leads?

If handled properly purchased leads can be a great option. I have clients who use them with great results and some who have totally bombed ... the difference is how they handled mailing to the lists.

Unlike self built lists you have to work a list of purchased leads gently to start due to the fact there is no prior relationship.

You also must be very careful where you get your leads. There are a ton of brokers out there who harvest emails from the web which is VERY BAD!

A list provider should be able to provide a lot of info about the lead. Other than just email address, ideally you want ...

1: Name
2: Date of sign up
3: IP address

This is MINIMUM! The more info the better.

If possible it's also great to have the URL where the lead subscribed from. Sadly this item is rarely included.

Also, be sure to understand that you will probably have to deal with spam complaints. Regardless of how good the list is this is always a possibility.

Personally I would never buy leads. With all of the tools at our disposal to build lists, etc... why not build real relationships with people from scratch. I would rather have a list 10 people who bought because they trust me than 10,000 cold leads who I have to interrupt.

Purchased leads are junk 9 times out of 10.
There's tons of resources on WF that include very simple methods of generating your own leads.. gives it a more personal touch and connection with your prospective customers.
