Why do we need motivation?

A better question is, "Why do me need motivation outside of ourselves"?

The possible evolutionary answer is, humans need someone to raise them from birth, and, as we grow we seek out answers that don't come to us solely alone. We need stimulation to generate ideas and can either elevate or stagnate depending on what enviroment we are clustered in...

We watch tv, read stories, observe others, etc looking for a spark of inspiration and motivation.why?

At times it seems to be more of a detriment then a help. One time Jay Leno was asked do he watch porn, he said, "no, I make my own porn".

Why don't we all just go for our dreams instead of the escape? Why don't we say, "I am going to succeed in business, so, that I can live the fantasy instead of watch it",.

Why do we watch sports, entertainment etc, instead of live the sport and entertainment? Why cant we just play pick up games at the gym, (or join a weekend league softball team)? We can live a tweaked version of what we seek vicariously, can't we?

What is wrong with us?

I hear what you are saying. Life is about living. I am guessing but I feel some people escape because they feel stuck in their current life and do not believe it could change. A dead end job, a busy family life, less time for self care, the list goes on... But I believe once people move towards what they want then they see it is achievable. But until then they escape.

I have to agree with hails2009. People just want to escape instead of push through the crap and get it done. I do this myself sometimes but mostly to unwind after a stressful day. I try not to make it a habit though. Thanks for the question.

Motivation is the desire to achieve a goal. For success you need to set your goals. If you do not set your Goals, it is very difficult to achieve your outcomes. At any moment we have all needed resources and we need to tap in the right kind of resources. What creates the motivation is the passion or the interest.

If you do not set your goals, you have no motivation really. Motivation can be internal and external. The most powerful motivation is internal. Internal motivation is the drive that come from within a person, and that is really powerful stuff. External motivation usually comes from incentives or an outside reward. in the business world, money is a very BIG motivation and it is an external motivation.
I believe in order to be successful, your drive needs to be majority internal! External motivation may give u satisfaction, but often that satisfaction is temporary.

You really want something, in fact you almost need it, but you just don’t have the drive to get to it. As a result, you blame yourself; you get stuck in your disappointment, your guilt, or your frustration further and further away from your goal.

  • My simple answer is that we need motivation for us to achieve our goals. Maybe a subsequent question to that should be 'where should our source of motivation come from? From desire / interest or from individuals. If the source would be from individuals what would happen if there is none on your side? It means you reach a dead end. I believe our desire and interest should be our major source only to be topped up by individuals.

Motivation will raise you up when you're down, and it will make you to get your passion back, it's like a fire that burns in your soul and can light up a room and lead you to create amazing things.

Most people are overburdened with work and other responsibilities there is little time to take a breath and recognize living vicariously through watching others is not the best existence.

Creating your own reality is always the way to go, however other things may need to be scarified in the process.

At the end of the day, if someone's motivation is to wrap up work so they can watch the game, and that's what makes them happy.....so be it.

Me personally, I'd rather sacrifice as much as possible to make things happen and live a diverse life.

I get what your sayings and its an interesting thought, i think it is just human nature to get downtrodden and want to quit, you always need something 'greater' or something to motivate you outside yourself.
