If you knew there was a poisonous snake somewhere in your bedroom, would you sleep peacefully in your bed?

It amazes me how many people just can't sense evil when it comes near them. I refer more specifically to evil that comes from inside of people -- envy, selfish interests, deceit, lies, gossip, discord, doubt, hypocrisy, enmity, and all of their brothers, sisters, and cousins.

Okay -- I don't claim to have superpowers that let me see through people all the time. But some of us are just too naive, too trusting, too clueless. Jesus warned His disciples:

Be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. Matthew 10.16

I think it's very important to develop some sensitivity to evil. Our survival depends on it.

And back to my question at the beginning, the answer of course is no, you wouldn't. But you would lie in bed, sleep, probably get bitten and die if you didn't know there was a snake in your bedroom. Ignorance would not shield you against it.

Never assume you are in a snake-free environment. Watch out for snakes dressed as swans.

People are amazingly naive. They trust even strangers. I see it all the time.

On the other hand, it would be impossible to operate sensibly in the world without some level of trust. You just have to trust your cab driver, pilot or the water you buy from a store. However, that does not mean you don't use common sense.

You seem to be confused about what it means to be evil. Evilness is when you do something to intentionally hurt someone.

You mentioned lying as evil. Well what if you asked me if you looked good in a horrible outfit. I wouldnt want to hurt your feelings so I would LIE and say yes. That wouldnt make me evil, actually the opposite.

You also mentioned doubt as evilness. Well what if you told me you had invisible wings and could fly around the world in 60 seconds. I would doubt you but that wouldn't make me evil.

You also mentioned hypocrisy. Well what if someone was unaware of their hypocrisy?

You mention envy as evilness. Im sometimes jealous of people who have what I want. Particulary those people who travel the world doing charity work for animals. It doesn't mean I don't want them to have it or that I want to take it from them, just that I want some of the same. That does not make me evil.

I could give you more examples but i dont have the time.

You need to realise that It all depends on the situation and the person and their reason for responding in the way they did. You shouldn't stereotype people when you don't know the details.

I only trust Reason. I don't take for granted the fact that other might help me in any way without expecting something in exchange --knowing that is enough to not trust anyone selfless that preaches unselfishness; there's only one self to get the hell out of the credulity way.
