Does anyone Meditate?

Yes I sometimes do, but it comes with moments. I should be getting into it again. I felt my mind was much clearer when I did it on a regular basis.

Meditation on a regular basis can help you work more efficiently, among other things. It is a wonderful skill to master. I highly recommend everyone do it.
If yo think it is "wishy washy," then I say good luck to you because you don't know what you are missing out on.

yes, I meditate everyday, but not like 30 mins straight

I particularly like to use breathing exercises for just a few minutes a day, several times a day. Works very well for me!

I chant and meditate everyday. I find it is the best way to keep the right attitude. I am not still during the process; I write done the important thoughts that come into my mind.

I try to meditate everyday. I can only do about ten minutes though lol. My mind doesn't like to stop talking. I need to learn to control that.

hi HORST, many, many moons ago, I was studying to teach meditation and have practiced several kinds since. Yes you can overdo it I do not know exactly to what you refer 'dark night of the soul' perhaps. With that original meditation they called it unstressing and too much of that at one time is counter productive. We used to do rounds of alternate nostril breathing and yoga between meditations so we could more gently include more, when on retreats. Both help anyway and the breathing is easy and good to do whenever one is feeling stressed or to remain centered as JASON seems to do..
BLUESTARACE love your picture, any time meditating is worthwhile, short ones a couple or more times a day can be more effective, more balancing than one long one.
ROAN, a teacher once told me that even meditating once in a lifetime is better than not, although of course regularity builds up that clarity, as a more permanent quality of mind.
PISNAMI indeed calms the mind and helps one be less caught up in the negative dramas of life.

i have done seious work on the way i think so my ming is constanly filled with ideas about what i want .. no reason not to think for any length of time..but i do use enough meditaion to dump negative though waves ..unless i am in a mood where enjoy the self torture haha ..

I don't meditate but I'm willing to try it tomorrow morning. I was hooked up by the posts of others that meditation can give a big shot to your daily lives.

I try to medidate whenever I have time. When I do, I find it very helpful in clearing your mind and reliving some stress, which I am constantly under everyday..

I'm big into meditation. The key is physical and mental relaxation without falling asleep. This takes focus and practice and concentration.

Observing your breathing and counting are two good ways to start.

To observe your breathing, just observe and say to yourself as you are breathing in, "in" and as you are breathing out, "out."

To count, see or feel the numbers in your mind in anyway that you can. Interact with the numbers as you are counting down backwards from 100. If you forget that you are counting or get distracted, gently begin to count again without getting frustrated. The goal is peace and relaxation.

Meditation will do wonders for you if you approach it in the right way.

I agree that meditation is potentially very worthwhile if it is approached correctly.

I meditate sometimes up to a hour, but more often 30 minutes at a time. I believe it has changed my life, has brought a calm to my life, and has helped to stop negative thoughts. It has brought focus and allowed me to realize what "Living In The Now" is all about, and how fundamental it is to bringing peace and happiness.

To those new to meditation, a common problem is assume it is necessary to fight to "clear the mind of all thoughts", which simply is not the right approach. It is natural for thoughts to come to mind and this is the basis of Contemplative Meditation. Contemplative Meditation is based on the idea to meditate on a problem, situation, person, or idea. Later, much later, one can go into Trance Meditation which involves clearing the mind of all thought, but this is best done after Contemplative Meditation has been mastered.

You only need to meditate for 15 minutes a day, consistently every day and you will get into the habit after 20 days. To those that do not meditate, if you try it for 20 days, you will open doors you did not realize existed.

I just recently started meditating. I feel really great afterwards. I hope it helps me improve my productivity.

I find that meditating upon waking (first thing of the day) is a fantastic way to start off "on the right foot."

Proven fact that if you start your day in a stressful manner, it will compile for the rest of the day. So if you incorporate meditation as your first action, you start off by clearing mind and body.

Meditation helps clearing mind. I do Yoga everyday for min 20 mins. Helps me getting rid of the tensions that lay on my shoulders makes me think positive and create a better attitude. and i strongly believe meditation helps controlling anger.

I've read up on the laws of attraction- ANYTHING one ASKS for/wants or needs may be accomplished by BELIEVING that one will RECEIVE that outcome, repeatedly thinking about it, and maintaining positive emotional states to "attract" it.

Remember this can be applied in business, relationships, health etc. Business success is only part of a fulfilled life. The perfect life should be a combination of different aspects of success - wealth, health, relationships, peace of mind etc

I salute warriors on this thread who have realized the importance of meditation in our lives. Not everyone knows this secret and all they do is pursue the monetary materialistic gain whilst missing out on all the other aspects of success.

Honestly meditation is something I need to do more of. Sometimes I think I make the excuse that things are too loud around me...

Either way, based on what I have read and heard from highly successful people, meditation is an essential part of their routines.

Meditation is a very effective way to stay tuned. When I feel very much pressure, or under stress or serious tension, this gives me relief. It's a very good way to organize one's thought.

This gets me into a very clear state of mind. Best to do it in the morning or just before you go bed.

Meditation is a great thing indeed. There are so many different things that people call "meditation" so it's probably a good idea to define the term when talking about it and its benefits.

I've practiced meditation off and on over the past 30+ years. I've done both what I call the "passive" type where you're clearing/calming your conscious mind by concentrating on the breath, a sound, etc. And I've also done what I'd consider a more active meditation where you actively do things such as clear things out of your mind.

Whichever method you choose (and try several until you find what works for you) I find that consistency gives you greater benefits. I've spent the last year plus meditating for about 8-10 hours a week but you probably don't need to do it that much to get good results. Probably 30-60 minutes a day will give you good results if done consistently. I noticed great benefits within the first few days of being consistent--better and more restful sleep, better work and concentration, a quieter mind, happier, less judgmental, etc.

I love to meditate, though I don't do it as often as I should (getting back into doing it though!). There's no other place in the world that's more peaceful than inside your own silent mind. Also, there's a great chance for some insight or epiphanies you may have never thought of, had you not been meditating.. and it can be VERY interesting

I visualize myself going to the beach and staring at the ocean. I sometimes go to the beach at very difficult moments in my life. I don't know if that's considered mediating because I'm not always laying down or in a comfortable place. I always found it strange I would see a beach because I'm not too fond of beaches.

Mediation is the greatest exercise you can do. It allows you to feel you connection to the divine. Anytime we get in trouble it is because we forget that connection.

I mediate twice a day. I do it early morning and at night. Its an incredible habit that will help you attract abundance in any area you focus on.

I meditate occasionally. Its amazing for helping my focus and it also is great for my social interactions(since I'm more in the moment and present).

While I don't believe in affirmations (I think they keep you in the place of what it is you are trying to get out of), I believe meditation definitely has its benefits.

After studying meditation for a few years, I prefer the Buddhist type of meditation compared to the Hindu type. I lived in India for a bit and spent time in an Ashram and it just wasnt my cup of tea. The Buddhist type is less restrictive (on diet and lifestyle) and I think gives you a better peace of mind without trying to change what you believe in.

Once of the best books I have read is Buddha's Brain . Absolutely AMAZING read!!!!

No need to Meditate, I think positive naturally all the time

Meditation is ignoring any thoughts, pretty cool don't knock it till you try it..

I've found that the real benefits come when you meditate after 1 hr, 2 hr, and 3hr.

Yeah I meditate...I learnt a form of moving meditation A while back and have continued on with it. I do it as part of my overall wellness program...altho I always remember a famous story...It goes like:

If there are to people and one meditated everyday for an hour and the other lays bricks for an hour...After a while the brick layer will have a house...the moral of the story is that action beats in action..I understand that meditation can help focus and attention..however I have always preferred the moving meditation I was taught....laying bricks can be a form of meditation

yup, just like a walk can be meditation. Did you know many of the greatest minds got their ideas from walks? Einstein and Tesla. When you stop thinking about the problem you allow your unconcious mind to chime in.

Definitely. Sometimes several hours a day. The longer I meditate, the deeper I go, and the deeper I go, the better I feel and it feels so good that I may not have desire to come out.

And sometimes I chant mantras or repeat the affirmations from A Course in Miracles. It's really thanks to the Course in Miracles that I have trained my mind to hold onto an idea all day long. It's just a matter of habit.

At first sitting for 1 hr doing meditation n keeping silence is a hard thing for me.But as day passes i made it as a regular schedule in my life.Now it is not a big thing for me.It keeps me healthy n makes my mind fresh

Mine is not meditation but saying prayers. After doing that, I feel peaceful and my worries go away although I know it's less about my feelings and more about connecting with my God.

Yes i am also in the favor to do meditation in the morning time. Lot of stress and tension play with the individual mind , let get it out with the help of meditation techniques.

Never in my life i did meditate, but i do some fitness work to be fit and slim

For me, meditating is a great stress reliever, even if it is just for a minute or 2 multiple times throughout. Often times my life becomes too stressed for my liking and just closing my eyes and taking deep breaths helps me to relax.

Many need to realize that meditation has many forms and depending on which method you practice the outcome will change. Make sure you research the method you are considering taking, because different methods have more benefits for different people.

The Shamatha meditation or the Calming meditation is a good place to start. It is a good cornerstone for other practices and is the most well known form of meditation. You can find a guide to start here.

If you are interested in learning about meditation as a whole, or possibly in some of the disciplines/guidelines of Buddhism or meditation then this and this are good places to start. The benefits of meditation are great, but meditation is only a piece of the puzzle (you don't have to be Buddhist to agree with the way they train the mind/live by values.

Buddhism is more of a methodical, well thought out, logical way of dealing with the world and yourself. Much more different than what most are used to when it comes to religion.

I agree for those who spend hours infront of a laptop or computer sitting behind a desk all day at home or in an office, take the time to 'switch off' and meditate.
It helps me stay focused and positive.

Blockage can affect you emotionally, and physically. When I first started and didn't know about blockages I would find myself crying for no reason and other emotional upheavals. Tai Chi stance also helps to remove blockages.

I do meditate, for 5-10 mins daily. Really want to increase the duration but for some reason doesn't happen. And yes, there are a lot of benefits of meditation which I cannot say, you'll just feel them after starting meditating.
Even after doing 10 mins of meditation daily, i've found myself to be a lot calmer now.

I meditate everyday for about 30-60 minutes, I love it and looking forward to it .
I dont do it to make myself happier or more positive, I am already happy and positive.
I do it because it brings out the best of me, thoughts, strength, potential and so on that exist in my unconscious mind.

To be frank it has changed my Life.. I now have better control on my mind..

I am thinking about so much things all the time that it is really difficult to focus. In this case, will meditation help?

Have heard of the benefits of meditation and I have tried with some youtube inspiration, but I simply cannot find out to gain something from it..

Instead I'm laying on my bed, relaxing with my eyes closed and listening to music. It helps giving my brain a chance to calm down

Yes, I used to do it regularly, then stopped for a while, now returning to the practice. It's a habit. When you do it regularly, it's easier to continue to do it.

Meditation is something I have never been able to master..

Sometimes I like just sitting in the rest room when everyone is sleep and I know I'm not going to be bothered. :rolleyes:

Every time a thought comes to your mind, stop breathing and then the thought will disappear. Breath is directly related to your conscious and subconscious. When you are in fear (u THINK that your life is at risk, also u tend to breath faster); when we are in love or sorrow, our breath go through different patterns. Learning to control your breath will help you to control your thoughts. So, if you have been trying to meditate and some thoughts come into your mind, just stop breathing and the thought will go away and you can go back into your meditation.
The ancient indian technique of "pranayama" -a set of breathing exercises - can be an excellent precursor to meditation.

I do occasionally, but I have to be in the right mood to do it.

I know their is real power in it and I know that many people take meditation to the extremes and do it in the name of many gods and sects. I believe that we are to meditate on good things and good thoughts. It certainly recharges me and gives me focus. Do you feel the same?

Nobody can afford to not sit back a little bit, think of nothing, relax and let go. That's meditation in its most basic sense.

I meditate daily. This way I do not get tired easily and I can focus more on what I have to do. At first I spent 10 minutes, but now I do it for a half an hour every morning before I start my day. If you didn't try it yet, you should. It helps your mind and body and you will feel at peace with yourself.

Yes, I always tell myself "I like myself" "I can do it" and "I am responsible"
over and over and it is impossible to repeat these and feel negative.

if only to get away from stress, being alone, your minds suspended in nothingness, your breathing even and deep is all there is needed to achieve a meditative state. Anyone can do it.

I regularly meditate, but only since I discovered that meditation doesn't have to mean silencing your mind. Meditation can actually be interesting journeys for insight and awareness, you can contact spirit guides, angels and power animals, and you can heal your heart, your past, and also project into your future!

You can also meditate in only a few minutes, sometimes I just close my eyes and breathe into my heart. I feel my entire body soften, as if a hard external layer that I've put up is now crumbling and I'm letting my guard down. I feel so much better, wide awake and energised!

I also love guided meditations, there are loads of really good ones out there that go for even just 10 minutes (which helps when you're first getting into it), and can really shift your mood and energy!

Everyday, sometimes a couple times a day, plus I do qigong, tai chi and yoga, all are meditation practices.

I began many years ago when I was a computer programmer at a big bank, I found it helped with stress and made me more creative.

I try to meditate daily even though it upsets my partner. But it is the least I can do after all the Lord has done for me.

I do now and again, makes me more relaxed.

I practice Qigong and Taichi sometimes. I think that those can both be forms of meditation. Am I wrong?
