The value of having a coach

Whenever you set out to do something, it always helps to have a coach who can guide you in the right direction.

I suppose this may be obvious, but it seems there are some who think they can go it alone, and perhaps they can but probably only to a certain extent.

One of the greatest benefits of having a coach is accountability. This alone makes a huge difference in that it forces you to remain in your integrity. If you set out to do something, the mentor can hold you accountable to your word and it will make you live up to it.

The right coach will also help you uncover any thoughts of lack/limitation and change it so you can literally feel free to take the right action to achieve your goals. He or she will be able to identify your 'blind spots' so that you become aware of them and change them for good. This has been extremely helpful for me.

Additionally, the right coach will believe in you even if you don't believe in yourself! Instead of spiraling into negativity, your coach will guide you to stay focused on what you truly want, and this can often be the difference between success and failure.

If you don't have a coach or mentor, I highly suggest you get one and make sure he or she is someone who truly resonates with you. I once invested over a thousand dollars which turned out to be a real waste of my money.

Case in point: There are some who claim to show you how to make 5 figures a month, but can they show you how to adopt the mindset that is needed to produce those 5 figures?

If they can generate 5 figures, can they necessarily get you to do the same?

If they haven't gone through the same or similar emotional issues that plague you, then can they really guide you?

Can they show you how to eliminate your fears? (and I mean this literally!) Or get you to stop procrastinating?

It's one thing to know all the marketing strategies, but it's another thing to actually generate income with them. There are people who invest thousands of dollars on programs that don't really deliver and it's probably due to mindset issues. So I highly recommend you find someone who really resonates with you not just a high income earner who cannot truly relate to your mindset issues.

As Reese Witherspoon once said:

"But with the right kind of coaching and determination you can accomplish anything and the biggest accomplishment that I feel I got from the film was overcoming that fear." (regarding her fear of singing in the movie Walk The Line)

This is my personal take only.

Someone who is self-sufficient to make himself accountable on everything he does is better than anyone who needs a coach just to make himself realize that he is accountable on anything he does.

I have the one-man team attitude. Most people think that those who can work on their own are selfish. In my case, that does not apply. In my experience, I know quite a lot of former workmates, former classmates and friends who have believed that having a mentor is better than working on your own feet. I have gone far greater distances than them as far I as know.

To wrap this up, I have my own definition for the word "mentor."

    Mentor -
    1. Someone whom I ask when Google runs out of Search Results that can answer my question
    2. Someone whom I ask when I need an immediate answer but I don't need him to stay beside me once I get the answer

      Fantastic!

Ultimately, the whole point of having a coach is to eventually be self-sufficient, but it seems many people do need the assistance to eventually get there.

The best thing about coaching: shorten your learning curve.

You could learn faster from a coaching than learning by yourself from books/ videos.

It is wonderful; to have someone to point you in the right direction and put you back on focus when you stray. It is more like having a good co-driver with an elaborate map.

True, having a mentor or a coach would definitely help you work better everyday. It is great to have someone guide you and tell you what you did wrong and what you should have done.

I agree with the OP. A mentor tremendously shortens the learning curve. If I had a mentor when I first started IM, I would have made far faster progress than I initially did.

Now my mentor is there when I need advice on certain things. It definitely is a plus for me.

Basically in life we need someone who can guide us in every move we make. Having that someone will help you to make your decision brilliant. In my life I treated my family and friends as my coaches because they give me advice that will guide me but there is one person whom I treat as my head coach and that's my father. My father is always there for me to guide me and lead me to the right direction.

It's what you do when no one is watching
that determines what you will be able to
    do when everyone is watching.

though i agree..a coach will be helpful ..a coach can only help you get better if you are already doing something even if your doing it wrong ...if your not doing anything and just looking for someone to tell you what to do ..

get a jerb ..but seeking out people who can help you do better when you are moving.. is always a plus .. if the people you find are qualified ..

I agree, having a coach makes things a whole lot easier. Their is a saying "do what successful people do and get the same results." If they are converting then they can teach you how to convert and what to avoid so you dont make the same mistakes they learned from.

I think you will find that even though many people are disciplined and do not feel the need to obtain a coach, they misunderstand the purpose of the role. A quality coach will do a few things for you.
1/ Extract what is really inside you
2/ Hold the mirror up, so you can see the real situation of how you are operating
