A year ago I found out I have a half sister in Amman Jordan. She's there "illegally" (something happened with the agency). And her contract has been over. But obviously, this country is so corrupt that her agency won't let her go. They want her, or me to cough up $10,000 to bail her out and send her back home to the Philippines. I'm in America by the way. Anyways, this is money that I don't even have. And if they don't receive that money in the X amount of days, she will go to jail. And in jail, she could possibly die. This is what we call "human trafficking".
And this is where determination comes in. I may not have the money, but I don't stop from there. For the past days, I have researched every government and organization to help me with this situation. I have sent e-mails left and right, looking for the right group and explaining my sisters situation. I have e-mailed the embassy, but I was told they are corrupt in Jordan. So I e-mailed the Philippines government, and haven't gotten anything. Then I started posting on Facebook, and found out a friend is related to a judge in the Philippines. As I'm waiting for that response, I've contacted college friends that have connections to Filipino Moving organizations. I've explained the issue, and I'm waiting on them.
Time has been precious, so today I was looking for articles written by journalists about this issue. And the beauty of GOOGLE , brought me to a couple articles. I found a specific article about illegal overseas Filipino Workers victims being saved in Jordan. I saw the name of the author and I found her Twitter. She's a news broadcaster for a popular news station known as ABS-CBN in the Philippines.
I told her to e-mail me because I have a very serious situation. And today she e-mailed me, and asked me what was it that I needed? I told her everything, and now she has a team investigating the whole situation. She told me how this issue has been going on for years, and that they have saved so many people.
She now wants to interview me through Skype, and broadcast it all over the news.
I hope everything works out, but I just want to share folks that DETERMINATION plays a big role to success. Let's keep our hopes up and hopefully my sister will be back home with her kids for Christmas, or even during the holidays. This would be the best b-day gift for myself as well (I turn 26 on Christmas Eve). Take care.
