Taking action is extremely important. Taking effective action is even more important than just taking action.

I take lots of action. I do lots of things. My problem is that I do not take enough effective action, so therefore I have not reached my goals yet. I am not always sure why my actions are not as effective as I would like. I think that I need to polish what I am distributing, trading and selling more.

However. I am fairly confident that if I keep taking action and keep evolving my strategies, then I will likely reach my goals eventually.

      Lack of focus and planning.

Getting involved in to many things at the same time, to many distractions.

You can only do so much...

That's an interesting question actually. People always say to just take action and everything will be fine and you'll make $$$ eventually.

However, i think you also need either a great idea, or guidance so your action is taken in an effective manner. I'm sure if you read through the forum there are many people taken action, but still looking for guidance.

          Hello,

I completely agree with you. Without proper guidance, strategy and planning, it is difficult to take right action. Strolling blindly in dark will ultimately give bump in head. Therefore one must look for right guidance before taking steps.

That is precisely why most businesses or events don't do as well as they could. They undervalue being organized and don't want to pay for it. Eventually the person doing it for free quits, and everything limps along. The right support team is what it is going to take in today's market to compete and to stay focused. I know I am working with a team, and after speaking with the consultant organizing the structure I am completely rejuvenated and focused. I used to think family support was enough but they don't have the vision like a team does.

At least you are honest enough to accept your problem. What do they say about problems? Once it is defined it is half solved.

I just wrote a post on this!

I think if you're taking action that is great! Of course! It's just good to be organized. Make sure you are not running 5 websites at once if your'e not ready for it, also make sure are following what your initials plans are to the end.

That being: I planned on blogging everyday for a month..? If that was your plan, do it, then go from there. Don't skip out.. I am going to add 200 people to twitter everyday and make 20 comments. etc.. See it through for a period of time.

Then you need to see where you are getting the be ROI for your time spent, and keep going there!

Make sure you spend time learn too, not garbage but good material!

Good points for most people who want to succeed online. If you realize and acknowledge these short comings you will be more likely to correct these shortcomings with action.

A big challenge is knowing what you want to pursue and staying on track with all of the noise that surrounds us on a daily basis.

I feel that the biggest reason for lack of action for me is the lack of a short term reward. One might try and try to concentrate on the rewards in the longer run, but at the very moment when you sit down and start working, that long term thinking doesn't always help. The magic happens when you successfully make the work feel fun and rewarding in real-time.

Other reasons for lack of effective action for me has been unbalanced lifestyle. Simply put, when I try too hard to deliver results for a too long time. Eventually it leads to exhaustion and overwhelm that I commonly try to deny from myself, which only leads to an even longer term slump in productivity.

The best way I have found to produce the most, is to start every day with a blank slate. I imagine that I have absolutely no responsibilities and then I think about what I'd want to do today. When I arrive to a decision, the work seems to happen by itself because it is in no way forced upon me.

This has been a factor for a lot of people I think. Planning for six months down the line is a great idea, but bills must be paid this month.

However, when I look back and think about how much farther I could have been, if I'd only started years ago, I cringe every time.

Small steps and believe in yourself.
Taking action could mean many things.
How many of you take the wrong action?

Lets say that you need to write a few chapters of a report or you need to create a video to promote something. Instead of doing that you are focusing on the graphics of your report before it is even written. Or you are trying to figure out how to edit a video before it is created.

Either way you are taking action... But it is the wrong action.

I'm taking action and I know success will not come overnight. I'm understanding that getting into search engines and having an effective site takes time and effort.

I just started up two sites and signed up as an affiliate with a number of different companies/people. What I'm doing every day is tweaking, tweaking and more tweaking. I'm learning this on my own and I'm making some wrong turns along the way, but I'll get there.

Many things stand in the way at one time or another:

      1) FEAR - F-alse E-vidence A-ppearing R-eal (What would you do if you weren't afraid?)

      2) PROCRASTINATION - I'll start tomorrow - yea, right! (Cure is 3 words - DO IT NOW!)

      3) PERFECTIONISM - Everything does not have to be perfect (how many "imperfect" WSO's have you bought? Hmmm...

      4) LACK OF FOCUS - WSO addiction and being easily distracted without shutting everything else off during chunks of "productive" time blocks is huge. I'm like a BB in a freight train if I don't shut off the distractions.

      5) LOW SELF-ESTEEM - one older mentor friend of mine told me, "Joe, you're a great guy, but when are going to start treating yourself that way?" Fact is, I am WORTH IT and when I stopped self-sabotaging myself, success happened! (what a concept, right?)

      6) NEGATIVE SELF-TALK - is self doubt walks in the front door, success runs out the back and telling yourself inside your head that you can or can't do something - well, as the saying goes, you're right either way.

Those are some top ones from me. Can you relate?

I can totally relate to this. I've been reading Psycho Cybernetics of late and see all of these things originating in the visual image I carry about myself aka self image. I like using the long description because self image is so well used it carries wrong connotations. I now work at creating a new image to carry, one that I choose rather than one that has been handed to me by other people, past history and wrong things I've told myself.

Very truth. Most failures fall right between these 2 fears and or a combination of both. Those fears can be overcome with a clear view of your final destination, you final goal and by tracing a laser focus action plan to achieve it. Eliminating distractions, avoiding the "shiny object syndrome" and reminding yourself everyday that life is short and we only live once.
Once you are focused and with direct line of sight of your goal, neither of those fears should affect you.

A lot of different things. For one the fear of losing money. I want to try PPC or SEO, but I can't afford to spend $1,000's before seeing a return. The maximum I can spend is maybe $1,000 but that's about half of my life savings and would be devastating to lose even $500.
Also information overload, constantly seeing offers in my inbox, and constantly buying courses and never finish watching them. Also my depression and feeling suicidal. And a lot of other little things.

I hope you are getting the right support system for your depression and feeling suicidal, I'm sure you know all the crisis call centers you can talk to anytime.

I sure can definitely relate to your situation. It really does suck when you put in the hard work and long hours and don't see the results. I lost over $2,000 testing in PPC. The hardest part of PPC is getting the conversions. My Quality score, CTR and congruency improved drastically and still, no conversions. You would figure all the crap I've read, studied and implemented I would be a pro by now right? Wrong. There is "Taking Action" and "Taking Wrong Action"

I'm in your shoes too. Not the depression or suicidal part, but my life is absolutely miserable right now. There is nothing worse than not seeing the results you worked hard for. Internet Marketing is VERY VERY difficult. Anyone who tells you this stuff is easy, is lying their ass off.

IM may be a blast when you're making good money. But IM literally sucks when you're not.

Thank you for sharing. I know the feeling of frustration that one would like to do some stuff online however $$$ become a barrier; and of not maintaining a clear focus or energy on what I am doing; and of chasing after the next shiny piece of software or the next supposedly best course since sliced bread - and wasting hours upon hours checking same out, which over time can add up to thousands of $$$ - which can be likened to a type of an addiction.

What I have now ultimately done is basically stopped buying courses and software and remind myself that I have a deep respect for and am careful with my money; and started reflecting on what do I want to achieve; what is the one strategy I have learned over time that (a) takes my fancy; (b) is time efficient and (c) is cost effective and simply put my time and energy into mastering this one strategy.. This has really helped me no end.

In relation to depression and feeling suicidal - this is very serious and I have been there, done that. Have you considered any of the following:
      • Seeking professional help from a qualified counselor who you can relate to - if you haven't already done so.
      • Starting each day writing (much more powerful than simply thinking it) a range of gratitude statements i.e. I feel excited, happy and grateful I live in my lovely home. You might think this is either silly or that life is tough at present and it's hard to think of things one can be grateful for. I do encourage you to try this even if you can only come up with 1 or 2 - that's a start. You'll be amazed how doing this activity can really lift one's spirits and put a smile on one's face.
      • Developing a range of self talk sentences. One that I still use however not as frequently is : "That was then. This is now". for the times my head wants to revolve over and over on past situations or experiences.
      • Sometimes simply either reflecting or writing down all the positive things one has achieved over a period of time really helps one to feel and understand one has indeed come a very long way on one's life journey.
      • There is a small computer programme called "Subliminal Power" and one can either use the positive statements that come with the programme or write one's own into the programme. What it does is flash - so fast that the human eye cannot read the words, however the unconscious eye can absorb the message on your computer screen. This doesn't interfere with anything you're doing on the computer. It is quite powerful. I found myself with one positive message that I had written into the programme that even after a few days I was actually doing the positive statement unconsciously before I realised what I was doing it. Quite powerful in itself (and if one doesn't have the energy to continually write one is storing up positive thoughts in one's mind regardless).
      • Taking on board the positive feedback that people give you. Sometimes we cannot see the wood for the trees and people see far more value and positives about us than we do for ourselves.
      • Another strategy that was taught to me by a millionaire property developer in a seminar (about 2 years ago) and is the most powerful yet very simple strategy to support not only feeling positive but also instituting change in one's thinking is the "Anytime Statement" and it goes like this - write it down:

Anytime I ............................ (eg feel stressed, anxious, upset)
I experience ........................... (eg. taking a deep breath and feeling calm).

The Anytime I sentence can either be a positive or a negative.
The I Experience sentence must always be in the positive.

This being that one is projecting to the universe (or whatever your belief system is) what you want to see happen/change. They say it takes 28 days to change a habit. You will be amazed at the changes that will happen. For a person living with mental illness (i.e. depression) I would suggest writing the same Anytime Statement for around 3 months. This being the thinking pathways in the brain for a person with mental illness can be different to that of a person who is chronically normal. I also recommend that one write a maximum of 3 Anytime Statements at any given time. This being that one doesn't overwhelm oneself with trying to change too much too quickly.

I find as time goes by I change the various anytime statements to fit into what I either want to do next or what situation I'm experiencing at the time. However I can always go back to writing an anytime statement I have written before if the situation requires it as it is a good pick me up. I find because I have spent time writing it my brain remembers the anytime statement down the track if I need to start writing it again.

I know this strategy sounds very simple (and oftentimes when I tell people of this strategy they don't believe me until they try it for themselves) - too often as human beings we try to over complicate things when simplicity is all that is required.

      In conclusion:
There are a range of other strategies that one can put into place to assist with depression and suicidal feelings, however deep down you know what the strategies are that will assist you. There is hope. Mental Illness need not be a death sentence. Many people living with mental illness can and do recover and live the lifestyle of their choice; are very talented and contribute in the community.

Yes, it can be challenging at times and some days can be worse than others; there can be twists and turns, ups and downs. Does this mean that one is 'cured'? Basically not - however some individuals do only experience one mental illness episode in their lifetime; others experience more than one episode at different times. Remember one is not ill 24/7, 365 days of the year. Mental illness is an episodic illness.

By the way I have worked in the mental health sector in Australia for nearly 20 years and I live with a mental illness. I am currently an Executive Officer of a small mental health charity delivering peer support services to people with mental illness by people living with mental illness. Basically all my staff live with mental illness and are fabulous people and are the most dedicated and committed staff I have had the privilege to work with and who are on their own journeys of recovery, sharing and caring with other people living with mental illness - their peers.

I hope these strategies may assist. Remember there is hope. Life may not always be a bed of roses so to speak however one can have a life and a quality life at that. Please don't under estimate the power of positive thinking and positive thoughts.

Usually what stops me from taking action is my emotional state. I am becoming stronger again after facing some health issues for the past two months and have managed to get over them, thanks to God.

I am now ready to take action again. I find that what helps me the most is being ENERGIZED and AWAKE. This is what makes me take action. And no, I am not one of those crazed coffee drinkers. I've been taking vitamins for two weeks now and it has helped me 300% of the time. I can't believe how much energy I have now. I focus on eating a lot of protein although I do not work out or exercise. The only thing I really eat is a mixture of rice, vegetables, nuts, and chicken. Fruits are a big part of my diet and sometimes milk since it has protein. Nothing more then that because everything else in store's are completely unhealthy.

Right now, I work from home and am not able to exercise because I've gone through two major surgeries recently. It's not like I need to do this though as I am a 5'1, 115 lb woman so I am pretty small. It would be nice to have some stamina though, lol. But, I am working on balancing my life.

Now, I wake up early every morning and start writing articles for clients, working on some books of my own, and keeping my body healthy. It helps to put on meditation music while doing this and keeps me very calm.

Ahlair, I completely agree about being fearful. I remember reading someone's blog post about a year ago and it explained people had fear of being ridiculed in what they did, afraid no one would buy, or afraid to travel to expand their business. It was broken up into a pie chart. If I find that blog post again, I'll share it with you all =)

It's always me that's stopping me from taking action.

When I get excited about something, when my heart races when I think about it, when I literally cannot go a day without thinking about it, THAT stuff I'll chase night and day until I have it. For everything else, I seem to be very "meh".

It's those "meh" things I need to work on. Internet marketing is feeling like work for me and "work" is a feeling and word I don't like, so I don't chase it as hard as I used to. :/

As far as I'm concerned, "taking action" is just a big smokescreen in IM. I think most people are capable and willing to take action, but it is a lack of focus that cripples them. We all know that there is a ton of information out there, and product creators thrive on creating doubt over other methods/gurus. It can be a fairly toxic mix.

    I would say:

    - Lack of Focus - It's just so easy these days to get distracted.
    - Lack of Proper Planning - Mental clutter or scattered ideas affects my actions later on.
    - Accountability
    - Procrastination

In psychology, procrastination refers to the act of replacing high-priority actions with tasks of lower priority, or doing something from which one derives enjoyment, and thus putting off important tasks to a later time. In accordance with Freud, the pleasure principle may be responsible for procrastination; humans do not prefer negative emotions, and handing off a stressful task until a further date is enjoyable.

Nothing is stopping me from taking action. Nothing ever does stop me from taking action.
I might choose not to take action for one reason or another, but "stop me", uh, uh.

The action I am taking right now is a good example of what I mean. This is it. Right now.

Agree with all the above but No1 is for sure Fear of failure!

People are afraid to start in the first place and are concerned about what others going to say if they not succeed or if they gonna put in a lot of effort and it's not gonna work for them.

Next they start to research more and find more even excuses to not take action which means procrastination!

The things that make me stop in taking action is
    1. Lack of focus - A lot of things inside my head.
    2. Procrastination - Sometimes I feel overwhelmed with our projects and I tend to be lazy
    3. Pessimistic - I consider negative results

Noise. My little brother has finished school and is off 'til September. For some reason our house is the meeting place for all his mates who hang around doing nothing all day. I'm stuck living in the family for the next couple of months so woe is me. I'm hoping to get a Chromebook with wifi in the next couple of weeks though so I can spend most of each day out in the sunshine somewhere, allowing me to write in peace and quiet!

Other than that my biggest productivity killers were procrastination and information overload. Thankfully I've found something I'm really passionate about now, writing for Kindle, and both of those problems have all but disappeared.

What is stopping most people from taking action? Uh...a full-time job, kids, house work etc and being too burned out at the end of the day to do anything.

Those that do put int effort and take action, usually take action that wastes alot of time. For example, opening emails, reading through them, clicking on offers, surfing to another site, getting distracted and burning through hours wasting time on stuff that makes no money.

So many people procrastinate and don't take action. There really is no excuse for not taking action. So many people just read forums, read guides but don't actually do anything. Then when they start something get disheartened when they don't earn money straight away and give up. Then they're too scared to do anything again. This is quite common, but failure is just one step closer to success.

What I find works is to write down your next 3 income generating tasks to do, then pretend you had a personal assistant beside you right now that had the ability to do those tasks. Then imagine what you would tell them to do, how long they have to do it and what you want as a result. Then you just DO IT!
I find when we put ourselves in the 3rd person, we tend to think more logically and can picture the end result in a more clear and achievable way. We just don't have an excuse not to do what we expect someone else to do.

I think taking action is great but I also feel that you need to get your mind right before you do. If you don't take the time to get your mind right and you take action it won't matter what you do. You will just continue to spin your wheels.

Get your mind right then take massive action.

Let me share with you what T Harv Eker says about it.

Your programming leads to your thoughts, your thoughts lead to your feelings, your feelings lead to your actions and your actions lead to your results.

Fear is the only thing. That's it. I don't know about you guys but every time in the past I wanted to take action or do something that I enjoyed, I would get all these thoughts like "Oh my folks won't approve of that, or people will make fun of me or bla bla". After running game (PUA) for a couple years and finding all these so call false beliefs about communicating with women being shattered right in front of me (By me), I started think in what other areas of my life are false beliefs limiting my growth? At the end, it just came down to fear. Fear only has one home, in your head. It doesn't exist otherwise. Just do it, whatever it is!

When you have a family that relies on you and a new-born who hasn't walked yet, you have a whole new world of fear stopping you from doing anything new. Business is all about taking risks. What happens when you just can't afford to take a risk but taking that risk is the only way to move forward?

Let me answer that. You get paralyzed at that very spot.

This is EXACTLY how I feel right now. I am a journalist who left his job to pursue freelance writing. While it may seem absurd when you think of it right now, it certainly did not seem so "suicidal" back then. Even now, I do not intend to go back to that 9 to 5 slavery.

Anyway, to end the rant, freelance writing isn't all it's cracked up to be. It certainly isn't enough to pay the bills no matter how well you write. At least for me it isn't. I have been thinking about switching to CPA for a while now and have been going through Greed Reports very thoroughly. Even with all that information, I am stuck at the same point for months.

In short, not being able to take the risk is stopping me.

I think that in the world of IM there are too many distractions. Many of us are taking action but won´t stick to them. There is shiny object syndrome. There is always another great opportunity to grab.

One should focus on one method. And stay away from WF until he/she has mastered that method It is possible to make money with every niche and method. Some take more effort than other. But it is possible.

But it won´t be possible if you jump to another methods after couple of weeks.

I hear you about the challenge of focusing. It is not easy to focus when you have many options and opportunities available especially when it comes to internet marketing.

How to focus will depend on where you want to prioritize your time and energy. It will help if you outsource some work to free yourself. The first question is what are you interested to do. I find it true that most of us who can't focus on one task because we don't really like to do that specific task at all.

So, ask yourself,"What do I absolutely love to do that I can focus on it without any problem?"

In my case, the fear of not even being able to say the word "trust" out loud. It's natural. Our fear is there to protect us, to make sure we don't do something stupid. But there comes a time when even fear oversteps it's boundaries. There comes a time when fear is no longer protecting us and instead is only harming us.

Focus is the big thing but most people do not know what to focus on. You can not just focus on sitting on your chair at your computer. You have to focus on money producing actions. You have to focus with tunnel vision and saying no to the 100 good offers out there, no to all the distractions, to the noise.
Become a person of value to others, focus on that. take a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle and everyday write on one side all the money making activities you did. On the other side write down all the things you do everyday that do not produce sales.
Which side has more actions? Yes non producing right? You have to do non sales producing things just don't do them until after you have done the paying actions first.
