How do all of you wake up?

I am curious to know how many of you wake up. Do you take vitamins to stay energized? How do you get past that groggy feeling?

I've been drinking coffee for the past few days and it has given me so much energy. Now, I have not drank coffee for a year. I'll usually drink it for ten days and suddenly stop. I heard coffee can stain your teeth and sometimes people become addicted to it so usually I go for a long break.

If I drink coffee, I do not take my daily nap. It's difficult to go through the day without taking a nap for me because I am constantly writing and working on projects so naturally, I will begin to feel tired.

If anyone knows other ways of staying awake without the use of coffee, please share!

  • Possibly overkill?: Glass of orange juice, multivitamins, LARGE travel mug of coffee (equivalent to 2-3 cups?) along with jamming to some favorite tunes or comical talk radio. By the time I get to work, refill travel mug of coffee. Some people take 5 Hour Energy but personally to me it tastes like I'm swallowing liquid garbage.

Also, having a passion for what you do every day is the most important. I'm naturally energized to get going with what I do everyday, so everything else is just a bonus

You sir are my kind of guy. I usually wake up and pound the coffee pot until it churns out a few pots of mud. I NEED Coffee to start my day. If I don't have It I'm auto going down hill.

If you can try exercising when you wake up. Yes, I think most people feel a little groggy waking up but exercising will help clear the fog keeping you energized and productive.

I have noticed that when I wake up at 5 am (yes 5 am!) and do a certain morning ritual, I feel a lot more awake throughout the day and I have such an awesome feeling of well being, even if I were only to get 4 hours of sleep that night.

    I don't even need coffee

I have yet to master this and do it everyday but I am hoping that I can eventually turn it into a habit

The first and most important thing to wake up fresh is to NEVER EVER PRESS THE SNOOZE BUTTON! For a very long time I struggled with waking up fresh, but the very first time I managed to pull it off was when I got an alarm clock that has no snooze. So much better after the first couple of mornings..

Melatonin before bed and getting that full 7 - 8 hours of sleep. Since I've started taking Melatonin, my dreams have become very lucid and I always wake up feeling ready to go. Avoid alcohol (or drinking too much at least) and drink lots of water. Energy drinks and juices (that you don't squeeze yourself, at least - freshly squeezed is awesome!) are too full of sugar and will burn you out.

I also use Sleep Cycle to help track my sleep movements on the iPhone. It helps wake me up when I'm out of my REM sleep stages, which really helps with removing any groggy feelings. Waking up in the middle of one could make you feel more tired.

Oh...also put on some music. Some good dance music will get your mind and heart going...even if you aren't dancing!

I'd avoid the crutch energy solutions like sugar and caffeine

Hmmm, melatonin and orange juice sounds good. I think I'll give those a try.

For now, I guess I'll just stick to to the coffee for a few days and wean myself off it.

    Thanks for the advice everyone!

Forget all that artificial stimulation. All you need to do is get moving and get your heart rate up. Go for a brisk walk or ride a bicycle a few miles. Guarantee you come back with your mind charged up and ready to go.

I would suggest not to take some coffee if you want to stay awake.
It's all about mindset but it wouldn't work if you're less motivated to stay awake.

Coffee and other stimulants are band-aids. You have to get to the root of your low energy: probably stress (tapped out adrenals), lack of exercise and poor nutrition. Meditation, exercise and excellent nutrition have transformed me from a stressed-out, chronically sleepy coffee junkie to someone who has high energy levels throughout the day, without having touched the stuff in 3 years.

One of the major causes of daytime fatigue is dehydration. Drink more PURE water. OJ, bottled juices, soda etc.. contain to much sugar and will cause you to bonk.

I drink Yerba Mate all day and feel fantastic. Coffee is despite contradictory opinions bad for you. Anything that gives you a headache when you try to get off of it is bad for you. Broccoli doesn't give you a headache if you go cold Turkey.

If you drink mate go organic, unroasted unsmoked sin Palo (without sticks/stems). A decent brand is La Mejor out of Paraguay.

I love yerba mate that's for sure!!! Whooo Hooo Go Yerba Mate!!

  • A friend of mine is using something called cafein pills, which is basically coffee in a pill. He says they are really good, but I haven't tried them personally.

What I do to stay energized is try to eat healthy (kinda hard sometimes :p) and workout. Working out is by far the most important part for me to stay 'awake', because it gives me a lot of energy and makes me feel great!

Eat right. Exercise. Pray. Meditate. Be calm. Treat people like you want to be treated...

All of these things lead to balance. You'll find yourself getting up refreshed and feeling tired enough to sleep through the night naturally.

I just take a combination of Vitamin B1, B2, and B12 to get the energy flowing, without the caffeine side effects. A good B-Complex would also work if you'd rather just take one vitamin rather than several.

Sleeping with the blind's or curtains half way up so there is a stream of light in the room when waking up. I feel it helps get me up and I always seem to feel a lot fresher waking up with light in my room as opposed to pitch black rooms.

I used to drink coffee, and it makes me awake. It helps me also become active mentally. If you don't want to drink coffee, then you can have milk for you to stay awake longer in your job. Coffee is not harmful for that health as long as it will use in moderation.

As a beginner, I don't have the luxury of buying a cup of coffee in the morning.

Every morning I wake up to my motivation. My watch. It's a Boss Orange watch, nothing fancy. I got it for my birthday from my Girlfriend. When she gave it to me, she told me this: "I know you can do anything you set your mind to. So go out there and show everyone who's 'Boss'"

Every time I get tired I look at my watch and remind myself of how much I want and NEED to succeed, and then I snap out of that tiredness, and continue on.

Other than that, WATER is great!

  • I've read that starting your day with coffee can be healthy (increases your metabolic rate, causing you to digest your breakfast/lunch better). 6 cups of it might not be so great, but in moderation it's probably OK . The addicting part is the caffeine so if you drink a lot of it and then skip it for a day you might experience a headache. I have been extremely addicted to caffeine (in the sense that if I didn't drink it by like 11am I had a raging headache the rest of the day). The couple times I found myself in this situation I swore off caffeine for 1 year +. It took me about a good 5 - 7 days to completely get over the headaches and need for the caffeine.

Nowadays I have a couple cups every morning it helps me get to work faster

In addition, breakfast with lots of protein (like egg) will do the job for yah. Or if you're familiar with **** berries, you can take 1 tea spoon a day.

Not sure if that's the best way to go... Morning exercise is okay if you're day job requires you to move around that often. But if you have a 9 to 5 job sitting in your desk, I don't think you'll have all the energy (mentally) to make it through. I've done this and I usually feel sleepy around 9 to 11 in the morning.

The key to figuring out a morning/daily ritual is to decide what you want to achieve with your routine. Once you're clear about what you want, ask yourself what the 'ideal' routine would be in order to create the outcome you desire.

For example, if health is important to you, then Redbull, 5 Hour Energy and the like probably aren't going to be part of your routine.

If being focused is something you want, you would implement meditation, yoga, prayer, or something that centers you.

I coach my people to use the 60 minutes to success method which really means taking time at the beginning of the day to exercise, feed your mind, and spiritually center yourself. Once you have a routine together, then getting up in the morning gets a lot better. (And if you're still struggling, go to be earlier)

My routine consists of dragging my butt out of bed (I'm not truly a morning person, so this thread speaks to me), drinking 8 oz. of water, eating a banana, and immediately doing some yoga, running, or hitting the weights (depending on the day). After my workout I do 10-30 minutes of meditation as a cool down and hit the shower. As I'm drying off, brushing my teeth and dressing I listen to audio books to stimulate my mind and then head to my office.

In the long run, this type of routine provides health, focus, and a sustainable way of living for me... try it out and see what you think!

Your body goes through REM. If you wake up at a certain time where you should be still sleeping then it could mess you up. Use this sleepyti.me bedtime calculator (no I'm not an affiliate)

If you need to wake up at a certain time then it tells you when you need to sleep by.

"The average adult human takes fourteen minutes to fall asleep, so plan accordingly!

sleepyti.me works by counting backwards in sleep cycles. Sleep cycles typically last 90 minutes.

Waking up in the middle of a sleep cycle leaves you feeling tired and groggy, but waking up in between cycles lets you wake up feeling refreshed and alert!"

Oh i know that feeling. My dog is standing next to my bed every morning at 6am sharp and wants breakfast.

Got some problems this week to fall asleep. At 9pm i was tiered, went to bed, but never fall asleep before 12am.
To many things go through my mind.

Finally next week is vacation in Vegas. Cant wait for it. Hopefully gets my mind free.
