Is Fear Holding You Back?

How many times have you been so close to taking action, but fear has held you back? Have you had such feelings as nausea, dizziness, trembling and pains in the chest?

Believe it or not, whether it is consciously or subconsciously, fear is the biggest obstacle that prevents us from taking action.

We fear criticism and what other people might think about us. We fear failure and that we will never achiever our goals. I believe that fear is the biggest reason we procrastinate and always fail to take that extra step in our life or in our business which could determine success from failure.

In order to conquer our fears, it is critical that we understand them and we reflect upon them. Fear is just a mental state and it is inside our heads. Once we realize that the key to overcoming these feelings is inside of us, the fear we feel doesn't have the same hold on us like it first did.

Have you ever experienced such fears and how were you able overcome them?

Not only the fear but evry feeling we experience is part of your belief system. When we feel fear at a given moment it means that part of the belief system is dominant at that moment.

Good news is the whole belief system is our own creation and we have the power to change or eleminate any part of our belief system. If fear is holding us back, we have to look at part of that belief system and change or eleminate it. Purpose of the self improvement systems/techniques is to examine our beleif system and help us change or eleminate part our belief system that is holding us back.

I have not experienced fear in that form, the way you describe it is pretty scary. I experience it more like a shadowy phantom whispering dark stuff in my ears, telling me all the things that could go wrong. But, the truth is, most of the time, those things I fear never happen! So, it's better we just focus all our energies on our goals. It's better we tell ourselves that fears or no fears we're gonna achieve our dreams. At the beginning of 2013, I was a bit anxious, but it has turned out better than I thought. These days, I tell myself: no excuses. We can churn out a million rationalizations, a million real and imagined constraints, but the sad truth is that if we devote too much energy to them, then, we're detracting from the energy meant for our dreams.

Fear is a perfectly normal emotion. The problem is when we let our fears CONTROL us. We let it decide whether we talk to the girl, buy the domain name, or call for the interview.

In the end the only real way to overcome fear is to take the first step. It's kind of like swimming in cold water. We are frozen, figuratively speaking, from the fear of the cold water. But once we jump in all the way, the second time is much easier. In the process we usually will discover that the water isn't as cold as we feared it would be and we wind up having a good time.

I do programs where i teach leaders to regulate their risk aversion.
This makes them get results that would not be possible by trying to pile on more motivation. Risk is a main driver of behavior because it is significant for survival.

I'm afraid of seeing myself as a coward.

I know there's a joke in there, but I also think the reality is that we can be afraid of anything. But what we are really afraid of is losing self worth.

    eg.
I'm afraid of failing and being viewed as a failure.
I'm afraid of losing my money.
    I'm afraid of rejection.

All these things have the potential to cut away at our self worth, change the way we look at ourselves. We feel like we are not as good as if we were not afraid at all.

Fear is natural. It has purpose. The problem is when we allow the fear to define us and make us feel that we are less.

The real challenge is not in facing our fears. But facing our fears and retaining our self worth weather or not we succeed or fail.

    hope this helps

    Kev

I think all the entrepreneurs have this kind of fear. The fear can come from different reasons: fear of not being sure if you are doing the right thing, fear if you are wasting your time, fear if you are going to succeed.

One concept that really changed my life is the concept of "Go for no". In other words, you are going to find lots of people who tell you no, but mixed in with those noes will be yeses. So why not go for the noes?

When you go for no, you do not fear rejection.

I got this concept from the book, "Go for No" by Richard Fenton & Andrea Waltz. Short little book, but really powerful.

    • The fear challenge for me is the just do it part. It feels like pulling teeth to do proper research for instance. That would be one of my weak spots. I seem to fear that which is unknown, as yet undiscovered.

I tend to fear that, which I just learned, may fall back to where it came from and I am right back where I started. Debilitating!

Notice you have the same problem I had with research.

Here's how I solved it. Hope it helps.

These are the actual words I typed out when I was trying to find the "Cause" of my problem:

        Research problem solved!

"I have been conditioned by Trivia browsing.

        Trivia browsing requires no thought.

It can also cause a feeling of guilt...

Guilt that I'm wasting valuable time.

This feeling causes me to skim content - all content and images also.

I have gone into research in the same thoughtless way with the feeling of wasting time.

Only the feeling is now one of "I should be writing not reading".

So I end up skimming, cutting and pasting content, in the hope I can save time by finding something I can rewrite.

Instead of making a list of questions then finding and reading the content that provides the answers I want.

Then making handwritten or dictated notes that I can use to write original quality content.

        I now love to research

Suggest you try and find your "cause" because once you know the "cause" you can change the "effect".

        Prosperity to all researchers.

        Dave

I am going to share big part of my money on investing in IM. And by saying big part of my money it doesn't mean thousands or even hundred of dollars. I have under hundred bucks budget for living that I work for. I work Friday, Saturday and sometimes Sunday. Many times my job time is about 18 hours a day. Which is hell of exhausting. And the money I get is enough to pay for feeding me and my labrador dog. Sometimes my dog eats and I don't, because he's my best friend who doesn't care how much money I have, and he'll always stick with me, so there is no way he's living with me being hungry. I can't afford lots of things, can't afford an Iphone or a car, or most of the things people have for everyday use at my age. My parents are broke so as my whole family. There is nothing and noone I can judge and blame for that. But if that continues I'll blame myself for not taking action. I'm strong, with successful attitude. All those days of miserable life are giving me great successful buisness ideas which I'll soon or later will accomplish. I'm going to work on IM untill I have enough amount of money for investing into a product that doesn't exist in the whole world. A product that will be a dream for a lot of the people who'll be using it. And I don't care if I don't eat 1 week or 2, or even a f***ing month because I know I'm going to succeed one way or another. I don't expect any personal help from noone, I can do it all by myself, this forum is the only thing at the moment that's helping me achieve my dreams, and it helps me a lot. I've made my plans, I'm going to start tomorrow after I get my payment, and I'll try my best to achieve some of my goals. I know that someday I'll be inspiration for lots of people, I'll write a book, and everything will be listed in it. This whole forum will be listed in it, and some people that are already helping me(some of them without even knowing). Fear? What's that? From what should I fear? From success? No... I've already taken my trip on the road of success, my name will be history one day. I wont buy fancy BS for showing my money, but I will build a buisness empire that will be known to the whole world. I know one thing for certain. If I fear from success I'll be working my ass off just to feed one human and a dog for long period of time(maybe forever). Lots of people see the word "risk" as failure... Don't be one of them, be different!

I always felt ( feared ) I was not good enough at the majority of things I tried. Looking back I was an amazing artist, but I did not take it further than my school environment as I believed I was not good enough for the outside, the real world. Mainly my greatest fear was the thought of negative views or criticism.

Now, as Ive grown older my global awareness and life experiences have increased on a steep and steady level. Now I truly know that no matter how small or insignificant your views or ideas are, chances are there are people out there that are thinking the same thing. The world really is a magnificent place, full of magnificent and like minded people.

I have managed to overcome my fears by networking and finding people who I connect with, many offline but an unreal amounts online.

Take advantage of the world wide community you have at your finger tips. If you cant find an answer or a group that you feel you need to be apart of, take on a leadership roll. Create a website or a social hang out and provide the chance for people who also maybe scared, to come forth and overcome their fears as a team. This will also cure that feeling of being alone. Taking on the big bad wolf with an army of fear fighters is a hell of a lot easier than a solo mission.

You are not alone in this world, just need to find the people who walk in the same groove of life as you, no matter race, skin colour or who their ancestors were.

After all , we all have a choice to make this one life the one we know we can have. Time is short, make fear an unwelcome guest on your life long adventure!

Sorry if this was too " far out there bro " I was up late last night working on a project and haven't yet woken up fully

“Feel the fear and do it anyway!”Susan Jeffers

Everyone will experience some kind of fear when venturing into new territory.

It’s not that people who are successful at IM are fearless, it’s that they don’t let their fear stop them from taking action.

It’s been proven scientifically that something like 82% of what we worry about never actually happens.

Without fear, there is no courage.

As Mark Twain said: “Courage is resistance to fear, not absence of fear.” Every time you’re afraid you have the opportunity to act courageously. It’s much better to deal with the disappointment of “temporary defeat” than the long term consequences of not taking action.
