Are You Sleeping Enough?

Conventional wisdom says a person should get at least eight hours of sound sleep every twenty four hours. One third of a day seems like a reasonable amount of time to sleep.

But, I'll bet there are those of you who require ten to twelve hours of sleep to feel right.
And then there must be, I'd be willing to bet, those of you who only need six or fewer hours to get a full charge of your day's energy.

So am I right? Are there any of you who do not conform to the average of eight hours of sleep a night? If so it would be enlightening for the rest of us to observe other folk's sleep habits. This would be good comparative information.

I am the eight or more hour variety individual. Occasionally I will snag extra sleep (one or more hours) depending on how I spent my energy the night before.

I've been having some trouble sleeping because of some health issues and I noticed if I sleep past 8am then I feel groggy all day (and I tuck in by midnight)

your amount of rest and repair should match actual exertion..so the amount you sleep should very with activity levels ..

you body is not a very efficient machine if it requires 1 hour of sleep for 2 hours of being awake .

the reason you need so much sleep..is because to repair your body needs to shut down your mind to get it out of the way of your natural regeneration .

in most societies ..where adults are in marital relationships..that 8 hours of night in bed ..is not committed to sleeping alone.

sex once or twice in that space of sleep time most likly has health benifits ..as long as it is a habit agreed on by both

Does anyone else think sleeping with a partner seriously hampers the ability to sleep well? Especially if you sleep light. Every turn, every cough. Some nights you just want to sleep undisturbed but with another human (or even a pet) sharing the bed, I don't think its the best. Has no one else thought that?

12 hours? 8 hours? I know people are different. Do we actually need even 8 hours?

My sleep pattern is like this.
    bulk sleep 9-1:30
    nap 3:40-4
maybe one more nap during the day if I get tired.

Basically by chopping sleep into different segments I am able to sleep a lot less. POLYPHASIC BRO

I used to sleep from 11:00 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. when I was younger. Now I need 7 hours of sleep a night and maybe a 30 minute power nap in the afternoon. As long as I get that my motivation level is high throughout the day.

If I do not get that I am sluggish all day long. Taking an over the counter sleep aid helps me when I am having trouble getting to sleep and I tend to get a good night's sleep when I take one.

I need a minimum of 8 hours/day. I find myself left productive without enough sleep, my thinking process if slow and i feel down. But with enough sleep, i am unstoppable.

Used to sleep 12 hours a night, I noticed how sluggish and tired I felt during the day even though I was sleeping so much. For the past year I've been getting 7-8 hours of sleep per night. The day goes smoothly, I feel alert and awake, and I I no longer have problems with insomnia.

It's really about finding the right amount of sleep for you. Some people sleep 4 hours per night and feel perfect throughout the day. Those people are rare though, so it's better to find your own proper sleep cycle to keep you at top performance.

For real, OP. Sleep is quite important. Some individuals can go with like five hours sleep. I need at least six, but function best on about nine hours. Every individual is probably at least a bit different.

Don't believe that getting 8 hours sleep a night will help your business. I only get 5 hours and still get it all done. Not to say how many naps I take each day. Retired and I get it done when I want to.
