I really need an answer

Hello there, I am new here. I have been designing websites a little over 7 years now. Started at a young age but Lately I have been feeling like I cant get things done! Do you ever feel like I do? When I am given a task my mind starts spinning and I sit at the computer for hours at a time just starring at my Photoshop. I am on my laptop for 18 hours a day. I feel like Design isn't for me anymore but I love it and can't stop. I just don't feel like I can take it anymore.

What should I do to better myself and get designs done faster. Jobs that should take 20 minutes take me hours.

Thanks everyone.

It is hard to focus when working? Maybe you need to take some short breaks to mix things up? Maybe do some Qigong, stretching or Yoga.

89camaro it can be very difficult to get started sometimes. Your head is so full of what you can do that you can't decide what to do.

I get this sometimes when writing or trying to design a new header image.

For me the solution is to get up from the computer and do anything else, sometimes for days, sometimes for minutes. You need to turn off your forebrain to the problem and let the subconscious do it's job. It knows what to do and how to do it so you have to get out of it's way.

I'll read a book, watch a movie, have a meal out with my wife, visit the kids, walk on the beach, walk in the forest, go shopping for groceries, hang out on the hardware store or just go for a drive in the hills or country.

Having put the circuit breaker in place I then will often wake up in the early hours and hit the computer with everything in place and it just rips.

If you are not playing to some one else's deadlines then you can be free to create in this way. If you under a deadline then you can still take a break by going for a walk in the park or through the mall for 30 minutes or so and that can be enough. It's worth it because you come back with renewed energy and are more productive than if you had remained chained to the desk.

Give the beak a chance, good luck.

Another vote for BrentM's advice. Getting up and walking outside -- every day -- has done wonders to allow me to manage my focus and emotions.

I can get more deadline-type work done by taking breaks than by forcing myself to stay at the computer. It really works!

    BrentM is right on target.

Turn your computers off and go for a walk. Stay away from computers for at least 2 days.

    See how different everything is.

When you're a freelancer and independently employed, you've gotta have the discipline to get up, walk away from the computer (or device) and get your feet immersed in some dirt.

Get yourself out into nature. Breath. Do yoga. Have lots and lots of sex. Go flirt. Have a drink. Read a book. Swim. Jump on a rebounder. Take a bath. Take a 3 day walkabout. Do something to unplug. And don't unplug so you can work more. Unplug to experience life, feel yourself breathe, acknowledge there's so much more than your little screen.

That's part of your job description.

    The faster you GET that.

The longer you'll be around - making MORE money.

I have this problem often. For me it's like writer's block meets ADD. Everything takes forever to do - or to start - and I can't seem to accomplish what I used to be able to. I now know I have to set clear goals at the beginning of every day. I don't go anywhere (on the computer) until they are done. If I can't get started, I just begin designing something that I will never use. This gets the ball rolling. It's kind of like scribbling on the page until you get an idea of what you really want to write. Good luck out there. It's not easy to have the self discipline to make your own way in the world. If it was... Everyone would do it.

    welcome!

    Here is what i think:
You are too long behind your computer every day, and that makes you a little bit lazy in any kind of way!

If you try to take some hours a break a day, go outside, meet some people, talk about things, talk about other interests, it will clear your brain and give you new inspiration!

Trust me, it works! When you stuck, just take a break and do something else!
