Danger of Wishing For Things Your're Unprepared to Receive

I was watching a show the other night on T.V of lottery winners. Some had good stories and some had nightmares. It made me think of how that could be. It seemed the ones who had the nightmares were the ones who weren't prepared for it.

That made me think of the scores of people who join internet marketing in hopes of striking it rich. But never take the time to prepare themselves properly. Are you prepared?

For example, most focus on marketing, but few focus on accounting (that's boring right)? Maybe that's why the failure rate is so high. Even, for the ones who manage to create huge sales. So beware.

This same principle could be applied to any goal you may have. Whether its finding the perfect mate, buying a home or going for that job.If you're not preparing for it (including the boring stuff)... Be careful for what you wish for!

    Belief to attain riches.

    Self-discipline to keep them.

Gotta have both. Lack of either results in many of the failures and horror stories referred to by The Niche Man.

it was a long time ago and i listened to the audio book, but it reminds me of the begining of the richest man in babalon when the wealthy many mentioned the difference between those who built their fortunes and those who lady luck favored with fortune..who ended up in ruins .

forget the people who win..think about the millions or tens of millions of people who think winning the lottery is the only way to get success ..and spend enough money on a weekly basis ..that if they actually put it in a index fund for 10 years and didn't save any more ..they could probably have over a million to retire on .

but you know the state governments make so much money on the lottery .

look at the long term financials of professional athletes and how many end up broke shortly after they stop playing if they didn't make tens of millions a year

Here's a shocking article about athletes who retire. I had to do a double-take.

According to Sports Illustrated, 78% of NFL players will file for bankruptcy or face financial hardships only two years after playing their last game.

NBA players face a similar fate with, 60% of players going broke five years into retirement.

      Yikes!

I'm sure many of these multi-million dollar athletes failed to prepare themselves, by avoiding the boring stuff like financial planning and budgeting -- until it was too late.

Shocking, but no surprise when you think about it. Most Multi-Million dollar athletes reached levels that physical skills and mental awareness around the sport. None were ever shown how to make $1 into $2, and $2 into $4. If they were, they were not shown how to hold that $4 through rainy days.

Since they make $100,000's or even $1 Million a year, they develop millionaire lifestyles with monthly expenses of $10,000 to $100,000. These expenses continue after an early retirement with yet a long life to live and no plan to live it.

It's strange, most of these athletes have an incredible competitive spirit. You would think it would carry over into their finances as well. Focusing on the "bling, bling" instead of the "budget" shows the biggest weakness in their game.

        The Niche Man,

To me, it doesn't even go as "deep" as these...

It is a lack of basic awareness...

They aren't "aware" they won't be making ten million dollars a year for the next 70 years...

They live in a world of "denial" where the money will always flow like a river.

They need to take off their "denial blanket" before they can begin to soberly look at their financial future.

I was blown away myself after reading this article.. If I find it, I will post it for you to check out.
If you look it up on Google I am sure you will find information on it. Mike Tyson is one of many who are an example.

With this said, its no doubt we have to consider all possibilities for the future and prepare for them.

Yes, many stories of sports figures, movie stars and music celebrities who achieved fame but was ill prepared for the trapping and temptations is growing.
It make easy work for reporters and news organizations.

They seem to love them because they don't have to do the work of investigative research and reporting like real news reporters used to do.

Many people who were born into lower or even middle income families struggle when they are suddenly confronted with millions of dollars, whether via sports, lottery, or other means. There is something in many of us that cause us to gorge whether it's possessions, food, relationships, etc. There was lack and all of a sudden there was plenty.

We have been without and now we can't seem to get enough of what has suddenly presented itself before us. How many of us are ever truly ready for any kind of sudden windfall?
