subliminals

Hi, I am new to the forum. My first question is about subliminals when selling. I run an e_bay page and do resell. I have often wondered if subliminal messaging helps lead the customer to buy from you. Subliminals can be very simple or very complex. Example can be just capitalizing certain letters that the subconscience mind picks up on but the person is unaware of. Example = Best available Underwater watch You will ever see! (BUY is capitalized). So, does it work or is it a waste of time? Anyone have any advanced techniques on the subject?

    Personally, if I were a potential customer and saw that, I would think 2 things.

    1) Trying too hard to sell
    2) Questionable grammar and diction (hence questionable company/seller)

    I'm just learning Internet Marketing, so perhaps things are different in this realm.

    But from a traditional and contemporary marketing perspective, you want to attach your product to some emotional/mental desire that already exists in the customer's mind (or which you create/implant prior to selling).

      I worked as an occupational psychologist, and at no time have I seen any evidence that using capitals works subliminally. I do believe though that we can be subliminally influenced, however more so by audio and visual repetition, commonly known as affirmations. As the previous poster alluded to, good grammar and neat presentation are probably more effective.
