Five Principles On Advancing Your Life

Everyone is looking for a formula for success ...

LOA ...

Visualization ...

Life-hacking ...

But the truth is that there is NO one formula. There are only a series of common sense, simple advice that you need to apply on a consistent basis.

From my experience (this means that it won't work for everyone) here they are:

1. Working 3 hours on the things that actually advance your life is more important than working 10 hours for work's sake.

2. Focus is more important than hard work. 25 minutes of invested focus into a task where you don't check FB, YT, Twitter, answer your phone or take a break every few seconds is more important than two hours of interrupted time.

3. Set or don't set goals. Some people feel restricted by them, others motivated. However, have a small victory every single day. I set three personal goals and three business goals. Some are five minutes long. Others are longer. But I can go to bed knowing that I've kissed the most important frogs for the day.

4. Visualization and LOA helps to get you motivated. Nobody said it will actually do the work for you.

5. Discipline is a very limited skill. This is because it requires willpower and you have far less willpower than actual energy. So instead of forcing yourself to do what you don't want, build habits that will help you do it automatically.

There are far more lessons to share but these are enough for now.

Thanks,
Razvan

    1. Those 3 hours you commit for yourself do count for more value, as long as you stay committed to those 3 hours
    2. To many distractions and too little time.. I know about this one, and it can be difficult to overcome. Example mentioned elsewhere in this forum talk about bineural music and meditation, both which influence me well.
    3. Goals is one of those things you have to learn to understand. It is pointless to have a goal to be a millionaire without any goals to be that.
    4. LOA - so so misunderstood. its action and mentality that sets our path. LOA is like you say, motivation, to form habits that will help you find the results or answers you are looking for. Its not magic, its common sense.
    5. Yes, when you build the right habits, discipline isn't something you really think about. You automatically appear disciplined.

Thanks for the refresher. you have given me a few things to ponder today

When I'm able for focus, a 3 hour work day does feel more satisfying than a 10 work-a-thon.

I am one of those people who feel restricted by long term goals. I feel anxious when I think of long term goals. I have them but I prefer to focus on achieving what I can day to day which eventually builds up to my long term goal.

    Nice post.

I would also like to add that you need to have a powerful why and a 10-20 year vision.

This will motivate you to take action.

    Cheers,

Thanks! I don't agree with the 20 years why.

    Why? (no pun intended)

Because life is not a straight line. Today I may want a thing. Tomorrow I want another. I can find a year long why but in 20 years, my why should change at least 50 times.

Your why is supposed to change.. Like everything else... By not planning or having a vision.. Your driving a car without any destination in mind and hoping that you will reach somewhere that you like.

    C G ...

A vision is based mostly on your perceived needs in the moment.

If you need love, your vision will be of a family.

If you are in love with fitness, your vision will be to run 10 marathons.

If you are in love with business, to reach the cover of Forbes.

    However, those perceived needs change.

    At least every six months.

You know ... about three months ago, I was ready to go around the world, traveling, hoping to get to experience a lot of things.

Now I want to have my own house, not rented, my own.

And I've moved my focus to this ...

So I personally believe it is BS when someone tells you "have a vision that spans your entire lifetime"

At 16 you want to party like a rockstar

at 26 you want to have sex like a rockstar

at 36 you want to see your kids at Standford ...

at 46 you want to have a Fortune 500 company

at 56 you dream of how you'll spend your days fishing ...

The only true vision that we can have is our desire to ...
    - be happy
    - exceed our expectations
    - do something that matters, at least for us

5 years ago I wanted to become the greatest copywriter in the world ... and I've got good at it.

But do I want to do this 20 more years?

Hell no. There are easier ways to make money and writing all day is not as appealing to me as it used to be.

I strongly believe that success in life is linked to how NOT ATTACHED you are to a particular outcome. People leave. Businesses fail. Life goes on. And I'm happy to know that no matter where I'll be in 40 years, I'll be happy and successful by many standards.

    Why?

Because I'm going in a direction that is focused on becoming an excellent person, not building excellent circumstances - like a tree that is there, no matter what happens around it.

So your vision and plans for the next month, 6 months, 20 years are becoming an excellent person. That's it
