The insanity that is PayPal

I have been having severe financial problems for some while and this has obviously affected my PayPal account.

This morning I received a notice that PayPal had made a payment that sent my account into the red.

I replied to the email explaining that I had tried many times to inform PayPal of my problems but always got rejected (ejected) from the system because support is not available in English (which I prefer since PayPal has legal contracts and implications that aren't always clear).

Being able to reply to this message made me feel I was finally getting somewhere.

Not a bit of it!

I have now received a new PayPal email in Spanish explaining that I need to use the support system - that is not available in English!

Funny how they can use English to ask me for money.

Anyway, it is an AMERICAN company and the owners are AMERICANS, and they SHOULD be able to hook you up with people in or for the US!!!!!!!

Paypal can be a nightmare. A few years ago they froze one of my accounts for a customer complaint. They keep the acct frozen for 6 months so i couldent use it or access my funds. Learned my lesson if i use them i empty the accounts monthly so they cant freeze them again.

You are in SPAIN and aren't fluent in spanish!?!?!?

Strange you should say that but, no, I am not.

It might have something to do with my extensive spells of isolation because of health problems but it is more likely due to a brain tumour that makes it difficult to learn new words and, just lately, remember old ones.

I finally managed to get through to payPal by telephone this morning - they told me that my telephone number, the one I was calling on, did not exist and was not the one in my account - then they hung up on me!

I did manage to get an email through and got a response in English so maybe things are moving forward.

I didn't see the comment as a critique but rather one of surprise.

I'm trying to understand the "insanity" part listed in the subject line. Was this an unauthorized transaction? Was it a subscription payment? Was it a refund sent to a customer? Or does the insanity refer to the difficulty in reaching English speaking paypal customer service?

        Kay,

The insanity is that PayPal España has a web site in English that ejects you if you click on the 'Support' link because 'Support is not available in English'.

When I replied to their email, which was in perfect English, I was told, in equally perfect Spanish, to use the support system that is not available in English.

I call that insane - and I am still no further forward because the English speaking operator at PayPal speaks worse English than my Spanish. (Mind you, my Spanish is quite good but not good enough for anything that requires a knowledge of legal and contractual terminology.)

Kay is right, I was just SHOCKED! I wasn't trying to insult you. Heck, I agreed with your assertion that it is STUPID! After all, if you sold me something, and they failed to provide reasonable support for a refund, they would get a chargeback and never be able to fight it.

There are days that I think "paypal is awesome" but then there are days that I think "this s**t is such a pile of c**p!"

I once bought a product worth a few hundred dollars, paypal screwed something up, somewhere. And the seller didn't get the money and I didn't get the product.

Now that has only happened once, so that's a good thing, but I've heard a lot of complaints and stories about paypal, some of which really makes me wonder.

Just like your story, why the hell would they offer support on the spannish site if the support isn't available. Goes to show how brilliant they really are over there.

ps: I hope it get/got sorted out for you
