I've given up using Firefox for checking my Gmail accounts. It took forever and frequently froze up.

Also, I can be working on something and suddenly, up pops my Gmail login screen!

Has anyone else had these problems?

Thanks,

Ray

I think you might need to try a clean install of firefox.

With all the thousands of coders, I'm sure it can't be that firefox just happens to not work anymore with gmail all the sudden. If it was the case, it wouldn't be more than a week before it was fixed as it's an open source project.

I think I'd have tyo agree with the first answer- it is more likely that a fresh install of Firefox is warranted,as Google actually normally works better in Firefox, compared to any other browser.

I'm loving Google Chrome for lightweight fast browsing. I suggest taking it for a spin.

    • I use Chrome for Google Apps and I use Firefox for some of my other general browsing. I've found in Chrome however that it moves at a snails pace once in a while and I need to restart it.

I spke too soon! Within a couple of hours of reinstalling Firefox, I was back to the same problem.

I searched Google and eventually came across the solution after wading through tons of posts from people with the same problem. Items open in the task section on the left of the screen, such as Chat, are the culprit. Close them and the speed increase is phenomenal!

By the way, it's not an old, slow computer that's at fault, it's 9 months old with 4 Gig of Ram.

    Hey Ray,

I am also using Firefox as my main browser. Gmail is working for me nicely so I am not sure why it is not working for you. Maybe you should get the new Firefox version or the newest one. Try that and see what happens.

Well, again I spoke too soon! It all went wrong again I have the latest Firefox and it takes forever to open an email in Gmail. It also freezes up sometimes. I finally gave up and switched to IE 8 - it works like a dream and has done for a few days now..
