Which book changed your life?

Fifty Shades of Grey !

It caused me to take a step back and really explore the deepest, darkest, and quite frankly seediest desires of my heart which I have been suppressing since my youth.

It really has given me a free pass to really indulge in the erotic and the taboo in a delightfully impulsive way but also in a very measured and calculated manner with my wife at the helm of the big ship.

Animal Farm - 1984 ~ George Orwell.

For me it was an Author, not a book.

I read both in high school - the same year I found out that the FED was actually "bank".
A year later I went to Germany where a doctor I saw told me something that saved my life - twice over the years. One being that my meds were an experimental drug they knew was keeping me sick. I watched US politics from across the pond for about a year and a half - then a few years later when I started college, I read 1984 again. That was the push that turned me into a pro-level researcher. A I owe every cent I've made writing to George Orwell - I don't write on his topics, but I'd have never had the motivation to get that deep into research without him.

Yes, absolutely.

It's a kind of "immortal classic". It's the one that most international players, professionals, regular tournament winners, and so on, will almost all unhesitatingly recommend whenever they're asked (which they are, all the time!).

There are also several other really good books on different aspects of the game, I must say. And some of the "teaching through puzzles" books are also pretty good, for people (like me, I suspect) who do well learning that way. Bill Robertie and Barclay Cooke - both former, top, international-level players - are also very solid and reliable.

(It's interesting how the recent advent of high-powered positional-analysis software has shown up some earlier "textbooks" to be flawed, too.)

(and over 100,000 in my personal library) it would be nigh
impossible to choose a single one that has changed my life
more than any other.

All three about equally. There was not a lot of guidance and such at home

That came very close to top of the line for me, too. Spiritually, it fit me pretty well, too. He's a great author. If you haven't yet, read One, and then Bridge Across Forever........in that order. That series is one I highly recommend everyone to experience.

Read Bridge and One. I liked Bridge. One, I don't remember very well.

He actually got divorced from Leslie Parrish!

I have revised my views about soulmates since then too. At least here on Earth, they mostly have a finite time, you can have a soulmate for years, but you can also have one for just for a minute. It is rare to have one for a lifetime.

At first I was going to say I couldn't name one book, but rather, it was the accumulation of pearls of wisdom from dozens and dozens of quotation books that changed my life the most, but then I did think of one book that may have been even more influential to me...

The dictionary. Not that I've read it from cover to cover, but for as long as I can remember whenever I see a word I don't know, I look it up. Over the years I've expanded my vocabulary immensely. I like to think it's expanded my intelligence as well.

As Mark Twain wrote, "The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug."

The "right word" has helped me become a more gooder writer.

E-Myth, I still have it on my top shelf, and highly recommend.

This book alone took my business from $20 a day, to over $400+ a day.

I have read it twice, back to back, and always get something different out of it, each time.

i recommend this for all start ups, or businesses that are struggling. :-) the concepts, ideas, strategies, and implemtations that are given are worth Tens of Thousands of dollars.

This is the first book, but I beleive there is a 2nd or 3rd editions to the E-MYTH books now. Very good, and very inspiring books. :-)

Grrr, he was in a sitcom with that pretty blonde girl,
yeah I know that really narrows it down.

But anyway, the point was that adults need to color more.
I don't know how I forgot how fun it is!?

And now I've forgotten again, it's been years since I've
just sat down and colored something.

"An Iron Will" (Orison Swett Marden) made a big impact on me. (Available free online as it's in the Public Domain.) I was having a bad day with my illness and it completely lifted my spirits and was exactly what I needed to hear. : ) It was almost "spooky" how much this book resonated with me.

I know! I bought an original hardback copy on E-Bay. It's a great little book. It was written in 1903 (this is from memory) and reads like Think And Grow Rich. I ended up buying and reading a complete Marden library.

But when I was reading An Iron Will, chills went up my spine. Very powerful stuff. It was like he was talking directly to me.

About 20 years ago I was going through a very dark time in my life. I was in a bookstore when I saw a book by Tony Robbins called AWAKEN THE GIANT WITHIN.I stayed up all night reading that book. It took me another day to finish it.

That book, more than any other, gave me the tools that I needed to make permanent, positive changes in my life.

I have to go way back. My father was killed when I was two and he left a rather large library. My mother didn't appreciate books and sold off much of it but my grandparents saved some special editions for me.

I was reading children's books myself at age 3 and by 5 I was reading "regular" books. I grew up spending hours reading in a big leather rocking chair comfy enough to sit sideways and put my head on one overstuffed chair arm and let my legs rest on the other.

Tales of King Arthur's Court, Anne of Green Gables, Wuthering Heights, and...always again and again...Black Beauty, Edgar Allen Poe and John Greenleaf Whittier. Those books are still on my bookshelf. Needless to say I didn't have a great grasp of the real world - but I got along OK anyway

That began a habit of reading that continues to this day.
