Just a few weeks ago we got an Ebola Tzar that has not one drop of medical training.

Well guess who was just named‘World Climate Leader’.

It's just so insane that I can't even be furious anymore. I just figure we're headed for extinction. Buckle up it might get bumpy.

I just edited the OP and put up the original link I had read. Not sure what happened when I copied and pasted that.

Anyhow - this is just stupidly stunning.

Nah, l am used to stupid, stunning Sal, because l live in AU!

We had someone in charge of Climate, that said this week he had strong religious beliefs, (l won't say which, only that it is a well know worldwide religion) and still spun dodgy clean ways to generate electricity, in the recent past!

Basically he said that wind, solar is wonderful, and always creates electricity eventhough we have had several days they would have been useless, over a third of Australia!

And all the time, Au has a PROVEN way to create free electricity, or the AU gov, has bought the rights to the tech, but doesn't use it on mass!!!!

      How dumb is that!!!!

No, we will push wind, solar and any other tech, that doesn't threaten oil profits, eventhough it doesn't work 24/7, for as long as we can until Fission becomes viable.

All this company green thing is good, but useless overall, unless China and India, to name a few, stop polluting like there are no tomorrows, and unfortunately goes for this dodgy tech,!

In Au in the recent past we went down the green path, but still sold our iron ore and coal to China, with no trade restrictions!

No, it seems that the green movement or fixing so called MMGW, is a smokescreen, otherwise the free energy systems would be seriously developed!

Hey, it's actually Fusion we are hoping to acheive. Fission, is what we use now, using radioactive rods to heat water for creating steam to drive turbines.

        Kurt will explain it better

As a Canadian who is eager to end our dependency on fossil fuels, I cringe every time I see something written about the tar sands. Our current leader has effectively made Canada completely dependent on the province of Alberta and it's oil. Most Canadians will never understand that the tar-sands are bad in more ways than just environmental - they think oil production =$$$$$ for Canadians. The truth is completely different though - anyway, to say more would lead this thread towards a more political direction and so I'll just apologize for our current leadership's bad decisions. That's all I can do.

That's all I can do for the current Aussie PM as well (your PM's bosom buddy apparently), who went on record last week saying that "coal is good for humanity".

Thanks for reposting the link, Sal.

I'm not very familiar with tar sands oil, so did a little quick research and found this article on Scientific American that discusses how damaging its use could be to the environment:

How Much Will Tar Sands Oil Add to Global Warming? - Scientific American

      Scary stuff.

As for al gore? This is SERIOUS FOLKS! You will think I am kidding, or making this up, but I am NOT! I am VERY sensitive to some chemicals, and one is used in some plastics. The ONLY other time I can remember being exposed like this is if I bend a credit card. THEY are made of the same kind of plastic and, when bent, this chemical is released.

I went to a bookstore and, getting next to an area, I had trouble breathing. It was that SAME chemical! Being curious, I tracked it down. It was a clear book cover that was on all these books. The title? "EARTH IN THE BALANCE" by al gore!

I kind of got a laugh at that as I left the store to get some fresh air. I couldn't even BREATH around the books that were supposedly about, among similar things, CLEAN AIR!

I NEVER had that happen to me before or since in a book store!

The keystone pipeline is FAMOUS in the US! Is it even being used now? MANY didn't want it used because it would supposedly potentially leak, etc... Never mind that Buffet will simply make out like a bandit, and get richer, by shipping the oil from point to point via TRAINS!

Anyway, the people in charge, all other things equal, do NOT want anyone associated with such a thing, OIL in this case, in such a position. Again, never mind that the idea is to quickly, safely, and economically, with no pollution, get it across the country.

I didn't read all of the article because it was full of the activist rants and obviously is presenting an argument against the pipeline and the corporation involved.

To me this is a silly argument (the article). So what if a business group awards a business a dumb title? Does it change the climate? Nope. Does it solve any problem? Nope. The arguments are "we know they don't deserve it" - but it's a private "award" and they don't need permission.

I think the biggest mistake environmentalists make is getting caught up in arguments about details that don't matter. This is one of them.

Actually, the biggest is that "environmentalists" seem to have an agenda that is anything BUT, or they don't properly persue it. I remember the 70s. I wanted people to realize that solar cells existed, and about electric cars, but decided that they wouldn't listen to ANYONE, much less a kid. The "environmentalists" were saying people should go to plastic for bags to avoid cuting down the trees.

Where are we today? A bunch of johnny come latelys ARE working with ultra low quality solar cells and stupid theories PROVEN wrong for so long to bankrupt the US, etc.... And NOW, they are saying to go to paper to save the landfills. OH, and I recently heard about how the guy that started "tesla" is getting credit for bringing the electric car back. Give me a break. If you market to ultra rich people willing to settle for ONE of their MANY cars to be sub par, and you throw money at it, OF COURSE you can sell it. SO WHAT?

I am actually astounded that we beat Denmark, just BARELY, on electric car penetration:

Electric car use by country - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

When I was in denmark in 1989, I saw at least 3 electric cars. I don't believe I ever saw ANY on the road here.

Yes, exactly, buy some so called True Solar, (one co, in AU) spend 20k and it takes you 15 years to break even then you get 6 years before they pack it in!!!!!

In the meantime we have solar panels on early satellites, in space going strong even after 80 years! Well almost!

If l had to go solar l would at least try to buy some quality panels instead of the crap commercial ones! Well, second hand ones, at least!

Are these the activists you are referring to, Kay?
The State Department, the U.S. EPA, climate scientists and even Wall Street and industry analysts agree that TransCanada's Keystone XL tar sands pipeline will create massive amounts of carbon pollution and TransCanada's new proposed pipeline, Energy East, is a climate disaster........
I would think that in the current level of ensuing fascism (gov/corp melding) that this "award" would be one uncomfortable alert for everyone, activist or not.
