Subway slapper: She attacked me like a man, and my jacket rocks | New York Post

The woman and her friend deserved exactly what they got - and thanks to the video the court didn't excuse them, either.

I don't think he hit a lady at all. I've seen some women act like this in public and it always shocks me that people behave like that.

What kind of arrogance does it take to think it's acceptable to make fun of other people like that? Where does this level of self importance come from that they giggle and cheer and knock people's phones from their hand?

I hope the assault charges against the women are taken seriously by a judge.

I think that is what Paul meant. Lady USED to have a special meaning. o ALL ladies arewomen, but not all women are ladies, if you know what I mean. HERE is what Wikipedia has to say about this:

The word lady is a civil term of respect for a woman, specifically the female equivalent to gentleman or lord, and in many contexts a term for any adult woman. Once confined to usage when specifically addressing women of high social class or status; over the last 300 years, the term can now be used to refer to any respectable adult woman.
TODAY, they even throw around terms like gentleman or gentlewoman, etc.... And lady is just another word that has lost its real meaning. But NOTE, that Wikipedia definition STILL throws in the term RESPECTABLE!

That someone would hit someone with such an object without provocation is downright UNREAL! That she should do it because she doesn't like his JACKET!?!?!? She was NO lady!

Does that even wash with a MAN? I mean with a MAN, maybe it is HRT, or he is in a sport where all others take steroids, or he just naturally has MORE testosterone. So it kind of makes sense. The average man is supposed to be around 300-1000.

Women MIGHT get testosterone with HRT. They are supposed to have SOME amount of testosterone. But a level of 100 is RIDICULOUSLY HIGH!!!!!!! If you are a woman, and have a level that high, you probably have a bad case of PCOS or something, the normal range is 15-70.

Now I have known some guys kind of like Paul describes, and they are nice, not given to mood swings, or anger. And I have known some meek guys and women that were VERY MUCH the opposite of that. So frankly, I think "ROID RAGE" is a kind of myth. But some people in sports, and bodybuilding, are the bad type to BEGIN with, and "roids" justmake them feel freeer with their actions.

You DON'T hit a "lady" but she was no lady, using a weapon that could maim or even kill. Sure, she was female but if you behave like that, you have to expect someone to defend himself.

I have a friend who's a REALLY big guy. Barry White voice, and as calm and gentle as you could possibly ask, like many guys his size. We were playing pool one evening and this woman no-one in the place had ever seen before started railing on him verbally. He just politely replied with some good-natured comments, and she threatened to slap him.

In the same calm voice he always uses: "You throw down, you go down."

I almost choked trying not to laugh at the looks that went across her face.

I am in the belief you should never allow anyone to hit you. Walking away is always the best option but sometimes you can't as we saw in this video.

The guy did just enough force to stop her. He was in the right as far as I'm concerned.

Another big problem is other guys jumping in to help the woman even though she is in the wrong. That is more dangerous.

I don't understand it. These guys will watch a woman beat on a man and then jump on the man when he actually defends himself.

As far as I'm concerned, these guys help fuel this type of behavior. When a man goes up to another man and tries to hit him, he understands he may get beat down. I suspect a lot of these women just get away with these acts of violence and do it without a second thought of the ramifications.

Too bad the guy, in the video, lost 4 days of his life sitting in jail because of this.

When I first saw the video it looked to me like the guy was still hitting the woman, until I saw the end where it was a guy. Lol.

Seems like the girl wasn't meaning to really hurt anyone. She probably had a few drinks, smoked some and thought she was being funny. Bad judgment. Now she is facing felony assault charges. Dumb.

So anyone who is a loud mouth and gets out of hand ....constitutes a free pass to lay into them ?

I don't know. This is too hard to judge. I think Context is important here. The phone camera came in at a time where we just cannot get a feel for what initially transpired in the interaction between this man and the women.

Rather than start going ape sh@t on this woman here. I just would have immediately retreated and called the Authorities.

HE definitely could be at fault to some degree in this incident.

Inexcusable on both ends. He is a coward to rail off like that.

Of course the typical emotional "got what you deserved" crowd in here is always going to side with the guy who is "RIGHTFULLY" going to put the loud mouths in their place

            BULL SHYTE.

This man defending himself in no way made him a coward. I have a few words that I won't share here for that "woman". Let's suffice it to say an animal that doesn't know better than physically attacking another person is nobody to worry about getting dropped. So he called her a bitch. She was at LEAST and you don't verbally attack someone and harass them and think you're too good for someone to verbally attack you back.

AND - it's because people run to the gov "wwahhhhhhhhhhhhhh" that people act like this now. You rarely saw crap like this go on when people used to feel free to smack someone if they were getting in their face. Now we cry and run to mommy gov to take care of us. It's pure bullshit. We are human and we have the right to defend ourselves. As far as I'm concerned every one of that little mob might have benefited if he'd closed his fist and knocked a few of that piece of trashes teeth down her throat. When people have to start worrying about their own hide when they harass others again, instead of thinking they can get away because nobody will know who they are to go "wahhhhhhhhhh" to cops about, you'll see the climate of this country do one huge about face again.

If she had just slapped him, he might have let it go. he said that seeing the BLOOD is what made him react. Imagine if he HADN'T hit her. Maybe he would lose an eye or be dead. It had to stop SOME WAY. The heel of a shoe is not that accurate. If she hit him in the eye, it could easily have blinded him. If a sharp edge hit his carotid artery, he could easily die, and QUICKLY.

A Barry White voice saying that should stop somebody dead in their tracks.
Combine it with the look in his eyes and it would stop pretty much anyone. No anger, no mean. Just the clear fact that he meant what he said, and was perfectly happy letting it stop right there.

    Thomas,
I am in the belief you should never allow anyone to hit you.
Same here, most of the time. This woman couldn't have hurt him without a weapon, and he was in a position physically where walking away would have involved stepping on her.

As far as the idiot bystanders in that video... Standard fare. Show off for the woman.

        Hey, Steve

That was meant humorously. I usually have to make a conscious effort to even notice what people are wearing. In most fights I've been in (not very many), I just used judo moves to submit the aggressor.

I'll unequivocally state that in my opinion, that subway fight was totally avoidable. They all seemed to be 100% bona fide stupid®

Why do I think if everyone else was angry the woman was slapped - you'd be taking the side of the guy in the jacket?

The woman is a bully - loudmouth, talking trash to a stranger, accosting him, hitting him, playing to her crowd of equally rude and ignorant friends....and finally got called on it. Defending someone like that doesn't come across as an honest opinion to me but a contrary one.

OK. we agree. I was kind of PASSIVELY agreeing. Sorry if it sounded like I disliked the jacket. HECK, I just went out, and wanted to wear my plain blue jacket, but couldn't find it. I took an old multicolored, like 2 shades of blue, and some gray, out. I think it is OK, but others might not. But I got it only to get a jacket, and it was the closest I could find. For shoes, if I am LUCKY, they will have ONE dress shoe I consider CONSERVATIVE. The last pair I got was PERFECT, but the 3 I got before that were NOT.

Sometimes I walk a lot and, though I get ones with rubber soles(hopefully 0.5" thick or better, the soles and sometimes even the uppers wear out from water and some scuffing.

Anyway, 9 times out of ten, the garment may not even have been selected by the wearer! It could be a donation, hand me down, old, or simply the best the store had at the time. You may only THINK you selected it.

Idiots being idiots. She got what she deserved and he shouldn't be shunned because he smacked her upside the head.

That said, the jacket is pretty bad.

To discrat: the and is she assaulted him and he defended himself. The "Don't hit a woman" mantra only stands when the woman hasn't attacked someone. We are all equal after all.

I rarely ever pay attention to clothes and don't feel that they say much of anything about a person. The only takeaway you could come up with if you saw my clothes is that I'm not a fashion slave and I like to be comfortable. That's about it. Robert,

Walking away is a bit harder when you're on a subway train.

You're right that we don't know all of the conversation between the two leading up to the time in the video, so he may not be entirely innocent. Still, I think this is the part people objected to:
He is a coward to rail off like that.
She took the first swing. At that point, the rules change. And she drew blood, using a weapon, which makes it a pretty clear self-defense situation.

She was in full-blown escalation mode. Once someone in that frame of mind starts hitting, the only way to avoid serious harm is to get out quickly or stop them.

Unfortunately, a bunch of other people got sucked into the theater before that and couldn't drop it once things got physical. That's what most of the post-slap ruckus was.

Yup. Just leave. I know, tough to do on the train. Where I live is very urban and rough. I've been surrounded by gangs and had to talk my way out. Now that's a sales situation.

A couple of years ago a guy threatened to kill me over and over because I didn't give him money. Whatever threats he used, I stood there and sang back to him verbatim real loud, opera style. Finally, he just stared at me and turned around and left.

So try that the next altercation you are in -- repeat their threats real loud opera style! Bonus points if you act it out. Good times, good times.

That's hilarious, go crazier than the crazy guy.

That reminds of a a job I once had: helping a Karaoke bar close at night. I got on stage and sang so nastily that customers left just not be subjected to it any more.

Those were not ladies. They were disgusting. Because she seemed to have several guy and girl friends, this situation could have been much worse.

subways - where you are trapped sometimes and have no choice but to witness such behavior - I'm glad I no longer live in a big city and have to travel by subway!

I can't bring myself to find fault with the guy slapping that piece of trash - because that was no lady - in my opinion. That was a rude, obnoxious, attention-seeking assailant.

That being said - I think I would have tried to ignore the person's insults and I would have gotten off the subway at the next stop - to try and avoid a confrontation. Because the outcome could have been far worse.
