That's such a beautiful and touching photo, Joe. Thanks for posting it.

I hope this is a sign of the beginning of much needed healing.

We have a true cop problem in this country - but intermixed with the pschopathic, fascist, saddistic, military police......you will find oathkeepers. If you address a cop peacefully person to person and can't get a human to human reaction - you are dealing with absolute danger.

You NEVER know! I had a cop one time stop behind my stalled car, on the side of the road. I didn't know if he would give me a ticket or what. Technically, all I did was 100% legal, and I just ran out of gas and handled it as properly as possible.

You know what he did? He took me in his police car, in the front seat, to get gas, and brought me back. He was a nice guy. A few other times, police officers, white and black, that COULD have given me tickets just let me go.

So YEAH, even those women that claim they flirted themselves out of a ticket may mostly just be lucky.

Are there bad cops? CERTAINLY! One WHITE cop said he almost shot me. He knew I was white, and I was 100% unarmed. I had a manager one time. AGAIN, HE and the cop were white. The manager said that a cop accused him of a VEILED THREAT, got angry, and threatened to throw him in jail and charge him with threatening a police officer. What was the "threat"? He said he knew the police officer and knew where he lived. They KNEW ONE ANOTHER! I bring up race ONLY because some others do.

I will say that I haven't been arrested, or even had a cop pull a gun on me.

So the moral is that if you talk nice and respectfully, they might even go out of their way to help you! At least you know they are likely not gun crazy, and they took an oath to be helpful. That's more than you get with OTHER strangers.

A UN standing army would be militaristic if like the US army, it had other agendas then world peace.

In any case, do you not believe that an impartial army, with no agenda other then world peace and no institutional history of racial bias, would not help the situation in ferguson instead of feel good propaganda shots?

What we need is more than just one policeman hugging a 12 year old kid on the street. If only this could happen on a million-man scale, just for one night? Will the Anomies and those who feel they have no reason to have any dream to believe in, ever find reason enough to restrain their selves from seizing on opportunities and becoming lawless...
American founding fathers would never have believed there could reach a time where only 400 citizens could own as much power as the 150 million other fellow citizens. What a failure the system has been. Why were the rich bankers who caused the financial crisis still paid fat bonuses from the tax payer's funds in form of the bail-outs? Oh is it because they all went to Harvard and the best universities around and they are the most competent people handling the most sophisticated managerial jobs and they would leave if they weren't paid fat bonuses? But surely it should have been the people who would decide how these fat bonuses were to be given out and to whom, not that decision being made totally put of their site and control, behind heavily closed doors?

Joe I believe the pun was at least a little humorous don't you think.

Staying on topic the photo was an excellent share.

They left out one really important fact. A standing UN army would give the organization the ultimate power over sovereign countries.

The problem is that some countries oppress their own citizens.

The UN is usually invited by the oppressed citizens or legitimate government that do not opress citizens but is in danger of being overrun by opponents of democracy, reactionaries or both.

So there is no conflict between a UN standing army and sovereignty. Indeed, if the UN were to intervene, it would be only to help the US of A.

The problem is that the US government forces cannot be counted upon as an honest broker even by its own citizens hence the regular unrest --- a sentiment, I am sure, you can agree with.

If the UN was invited in Ferguson, they could send an army of only UN soldiers of indian descent (a people with no colonial history), this way there cannot be accusations of racial bias.

They could then embed advisors in Ferguson PD so to check they do not act badly toward Americans.

If by "Indian descent", you're referring to citizens of India, that country famous for the Taj Mahal, cricket and curry, then you really need to check your history again in regards to "no colonial history".

Taj Mahal was not built by India. India is a modern construct.

When an organization owns a standing army - it IS a government and can do what it wants, when it wants, where it wants, provided the militia is strong enough.

The UN wasn't assembled for peace. It was assembled to protect the petro-dollar and world bank. Check out the economic movement of any country (and the only countries) that have ever been attacked via a UN coalition of nations. They are the last entity on this globe that need a militia.

            No. Not a militia.

A militia is like these guys:

People that go in militias drink beer, don't really keep in shape and then shoot at beer cans when they're done with them.

I`m talking about a professional standing army. The Kofi Anan blurb about gathering troops each time there's a fire as if it was a crusade is very accurate. Essentially, by the time the bureaucracy gets around to gather up regiments, thousands and thousands of innocent civilians would have been injured.

            So more like these guys:

It can be kept wilfully small so that there is a natural balance of power between the UN and its member states. It does not need to be so big that it can conquer whole states, just cause enough damage to achieve a diplomatic victory if they do not obey international law if heaven forbids it comes to this.

The new international order could be called
"The Concert of the United Nations"

That is why the UN needs a standing army and be financially indepedent, so it can set policy independently of the selfish interests of its member states and be a true impartial arbiter for freedom, justice, world peace and democracy.

The whole notion of "sovereign" nations is obsolete now. Perhaps you're referring to corporate nations. North Korea may well be the only "sovereign" nation left on Earth.

    Joe,

There are people here who appear to be psychologically incapable of allowing a positive thread to go unhijacked, especially if there's any chance of using it to promote their personal paranoias.

You should not be surprised at this by now.

It is and has been a problem in the forum, and it is getting worse. I think it degrades the experience of the forum but that's just me.

      Anyhow, I appreciate the input.
